Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
from Paul Robb
Dear Information Society Fans:

About six months ago, after Information Society played a show in New York, I became excited by the idea of reforming the band to tour and record a new Information Society record. I felt the world had been without Information Society long enough. I spoke with James Cassidy who was very supportive of the idea. Kurt Harland expressed a reluctance to make a time commitment due to his demanding job, and the impending arrival of his new baby. After friendly discussions, Kurt gave his blessing for James and me to carry on Information Society with out him. So now we are moving forward with our new singer, Christopher Anton, who has already made a positive contribution to the group. We've also added keyboardist Sonja Myers.

We are very excited about the new songs, and we can't wait to share them with the world. We are also currently discussing plans for live appearances. We value our fans very greatly, and we are grateful for all your support over the years. We will let everyone know the minute anything happens.

And never forget: "It's a great big disco world!"

-------------------------------

the new Information Society:

Paul Robb, James Cassidy, Christopher Anton (vocals) & Sonja Meyers (keyboards).

Unfortunately Kurt is out... : (

I feel weird and excited at the same time.
I loved (and still love) the main Insoc line up.
I love DBA and my Soul Reaver soundtrack.
I love Think Tank's "Skullbuggery".
I never got ahold of any Brother Sun Sister Moon,
but I *do* have Luminous and think it's cool.

This should be very interesting.
Hey, I'm in.
:-)

I have some BSSM, but no Luminous. We balance each other out!

And...JIM? WHAT ABOUT THE VOLES? OMG! THE VOLES!

As for the voles, I'm sure Jim has left them
in good hands. Er...soil. Or, luxury habitrails?

I weep that the voles of Oregon may be bereft of their benevolent researcher. However, I rejoice at the prospect of more Information Society.

I mean, come on. It's not an abomination like DEV2.0...

Kurt's vocals and then his solo work is InSoc as far as I'm concerned but I'm going to try to keep an open mind about this.

I miss his voice as well.
It's inextricably linked to some good things in my brain.
Personally, I've found that The Crüxshadows can help fill
the void a little.

Eeek. No Kurt???

I will also TRY to keep an open mind about this.

However we all know that a bad vocalist and ruin the entire music experience.
This Christopher Anton guy better not be horrible. That's all I have to say.

He laready has one strike against him with the way he looks in that picture.

well, I don't think that ANY fan will be happy to not have Kurt in the new formation of InSoc. and I'm not one for sure.

and doesn't matter how much the new vocalist is good, he could even be the best singer in the world, but he will never be Kurt. :/

that's why I'm not too much happy about that and about using the InSoc name like I don't liked when Kurt used in his solo works too (aside I love his solo work).

for me InSoc is Paul & Kurt, without one isn't InSoc anymore.

SO I'm just expecting a new technopop project by Paul Robb, with a new vocalist (a good one if you listen), and anything leads to be a great new band by more than half of InSoc (Paul & James), even if isn't really my beloved InSoc, seams to be great project by InSoc.

and since all InSoc projects were from good to GREAT, I'm expecting the best for this one. particularly because they will come to Brasil to do a show this year, and maybe more in the future.... :D

Paul promised me to not make anything poppy/dance and maintain the InSoc spirit, so I'll trust him and if they sound good (what I think WILL SOUND GREAT) I'll support the band for sure, using or not the InSoc name.

The new vocalist have a good taste in music, and is a big DM fan... so anything seams to match perfectly to born something really great... and is what I hope to happen! :D

and maybe Kurt will comeback later, who knows??? :D

Unfortunately we can only wait right now... :P

PS: Congrats to Kurt and Michelle for the Baby!

I heard some samples of this guy in one of his previous bands....and I hope to god that he has improved over the years, because if it's any indication of how he'll sound...I almost feel I could do just as well.

I sort of agree with this. But I'm a bit Kurt biased, and didn't
care when he used the name.

No offense to Christopher Anton, but I sorta thought that too...
am I bad?
I haven't heard anything from him, but will keep an open mind/ear.

Three words, gang... Creatures of Influence!

OK, so Kurt at least did backing vocals on that album, but I think you get my point.

I agree that Kurt and Paul are to InSoc what John and Paul are to the Beatles, so I will miss Kurt. But if he doesn't feel like this is what he wants to do right now, and Paul does want to make another go at it-- well, the fact that I enjoyed CoI even without Kurt gives me enough faith that it will be worth it.

Well, who's said to you that Kurt isn't at COI as main vocalist? he made at least HALF of the MAIN vocals there, Signals & Fall In Line per exemple are only Kurt (aside Murat made the backing)...

anyway, I still think that will be great even without Kurt.

He already has one strike against him with the way he looks in that picture.

I get the feeling that he was trying to look cool without doing "Kurt hair." Not a good effect. I'm pretty biased though, as Kurt was my first and only rock star crush.

Paul and Jim look great! Is it just me or does that Sonja girl look a lot like Amanda in the WOYM video?

IMO, they should have the band name a little different than the original band name. But hey, people are people.

You know, here is my feeling on the subject...

I'm an Insoc fan. There tends to be only two schools for Insoc fans. People who know one single song, and people who are absolutely rabid about them. I am the latter.

That being said, I love Kurt. He drew me into the band, but I also realize that a great part of the vision of that band was from Paul Robb.

My desire for more Insoc in my life is roughly on par with the desires of a crack whore. You tell a crack whore that you are going to give it more crack, but that hey, it might be a let down because you didn't use the exact same ingredients as last time. Do you think the crack whore cares? Hell no. Just gimme some more Insoc dammit, before I shank yo' ass!

Ah, Zach. I wish I could have the same outlook as you.
I guess if my only options are inscoc without Kurt or no insoc at all, I'll have to take insoc without Kurt, but it doesn't seem right.
Will I get the new album-yes
Will I end up liking it-probably
If they tour will I go and scream, yell and jump around-yes
Will it be bittersweet-definitely

I guess we can't have it all.

Suck. DBA is by far my favorite album.

Considering that Kurt produced it mostly solo, I wouldn't be too suprised if the new albums turn out nothing like it. But oh well, I guess I'll wait and see. *puts salmon eggs in his mouth in order to have 'bated breath' =)*

In my opinion:

- InSoc, in fact, is the original 1988-1993 band
- DBA is more "Kurt" than "InSoc" - he did what he like, that's a very positive thing, "do what you like", but, in this case, the original InSoc IDEA was affected.
- the NEW InSoc "Reloaded" is like the original one.

I am sad that there will be no Kurt, but on the plus side, Hack is my favorite album, and if I get some synthpop I can dance to, I'm a happy fan and will be thrilled to see new songs. Not all InSoc fans are that big on Don't Be Afraid because it isn't as good for dancing.

My heart went all aflutter when I started reading this post, but yeah, now I'm kinda let down.
I will keep an open mind and probably end up liking the new stuff, but it won't quite be the same.
At least they didn't have a "reality" show to find a new singer.
*ahem* INXS

As much as I'm disappointed that Kurt won't be part of the reunion I totally understand that he was never really into the rock star thing and now he has other priorities in life.
Congrats to Kurt and Michelle! That's very exciting!

Echo and the Bunnymen made an album without Ian McCulloch, and it was a sight better than most of their newer records....

Sheep on Drugs have kept on going since Duncan X left the group by incorporating several different frontmen-and-women, and are *really not the same at all... kinda blah, now.

Simple... but cool :D

I think insoc should have hired barry harris from Kon Kan as a lead singer since thier album Move To Move sounds very similar to "Hack" with the synth pop we all knew and loved. If you love synth pop pick up Kon Kan's album Move To Move or Syntonic they sound very similar to insoc.
