| My Life According To... |
[29 Mar 2009|04:26am] |
Since I'm bored, and it's not my bedtime yet, I did the "My life according to..." thing and I'm going to share it.
Some of them I didn't even use real answers.
( Do you even care? I wouldn't. )
Also, I'm not in Minneapolis, as some of you may have figured out. Sorry, those of you who may have wanted to say hi. I had to work.

Posted for your interest and reposting if you care to. I have WAAAAY too many rare and hard-to-find Information Society songs, so if you see song titles you don't recognize, that's probably why. :-P
Pick an artist, and using ONLY SONG TITLES from only that artist, cleverly [preferably] answer these questions. This is harder than it seems!
1. Are you male or female: 14 Angels 2. Describe yourself: Think 3. How do you feel about yourself: Attitude 4. Describe your ex boyfriend/girlfriend: If Only The World Were Nice 5. Describe your current boy/girl situation: 1,000,000 Watts of Love 6. Describe your current location: Where Would I Be Without IBM 7. Describe where you want to be: Over the Sea 8. Your best friend is: Still Here 9. Your favorite color is: Dark Companion 10. You know that: Nothing Sacred 11. What's the weather like: On the Outside 12. If your life was a television show what would it be called: To The City 13. What is life to you: Absolutely Mind Boggling 14. What is the best advice you have to give: Beware, the Glaciers 15. If you could change your name what would it be: Der Mussolini

Rockbox Vol. 2 contains a snippet of WOYM at about five minutes in. This is the most bizarre thing I've ever encountered, Lil Jon screaming about how we all better be singing along, followed immediately by Kurt's voice.
Thoughts?

Hell, go to BOTH of the shows! Spread the word! You've got less than a day to see Information Society! OMG WTF BBQ - INFORMATION SOCIETY!!!

| InSoc Trivia Contest Round 1 |
[24 Feb 2009|06:56pm] |
The answers to Round 1 have been un-screened.
I will post people's individual answers if you would like, but for now, I'm just going to post the answers themselves:
1. Where did the quote "What good is a record, if you don't have a girlfriend?" come from? The "We're No Fun" poster. Everybody who answered #1 got it correct.
2. What is the origin of Kurt's pseudonym, "Kurt Valaquen?" It is a variation on the title of a chapter of "The Silmarillion," by J.R.R. Tolkien - "Valaquenta." - ondiney, your knowlege of the full answer to this question sort of creeps me out, heh. - A bunch of people said it was from a Role Playing game, which is a pretty good guess; two people said it was from an Anne McCafferty novel, which is really close, since the original pseudonym had a first name based on an Anne McCafferty novel.
3. Which movie(s) had an Information Society song on the soundtrack? The song "Hit Me," was in "Earth Girls Are Easy," and "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)" was in "American Psycho." Just about everybody got "Earth Girls Are Easy," but only a few said "American Psycho" - that actually surprised me.
I'm actually pretty busy currently, so I'll post #2 when I have some time. :)
Thanks for participating, everybody! I'd send out prizes or something, but I'm poor and my box'o'insoc stuff got left in Seattle when I moved back to San Francisco.
As a prize, here's a picture of A stuffed boar wearing goggles and riding on the roof of The Car at Burning Man.

| Information Society @ Dallas & Houston, TX 3/20/09 - 3/21/09 |
[24 Feb 2009|05:18pm] |
Can I obligatorily say "Yee-haw?" Oh, I just did.

That should be enough to let on that InSoc is returning triumphantly to Texas for two shows:
Information Society @ Dallas TX - 11:00PM, 3/20/09 (Friday)
The Opus Club 2208 Main St Dallas, TX 75201 Information Society @ Houston, TX - 3/21/09 (Saturday)
The Zeppelin Club - 11:00PM 3101 San Jacinto St Houston, TX 77004 (713) 521-7300 So fear not, my friends, enemies, co-workers, and even those of you I do not know - you do not have to go to Minneapolis to see Information Society! Well, you can, if you want to. Nobody's going to stop you. Seriously - it's your choice. You can even go to all three shows, if that's how you roll.
Okay, if you're in the band, you have to go. Yes, even you, Kurt.

| When James Cassidy ISN'T Rocking Out |
[08 Jan 2009|04:29am] |
James Cassidy is a man who wears many hats. Metaphorically and literally.
By night, he's a rock star. He plays in a band called "Information Society," whoever they are. ;)
But by day, he is an instructor and soil scientist at Oregon State University.
Now, the long, long wait is over: you can watch him in action on Vole Holes, a segment of "Oregon Field Guide," as seen on Oregon Public Broadcasting.
Learning is fun!

| Word Clouds |
[05 Dec 2008|11:27pm] |
So, I was playing around with Wordle (which is a really cool site, BTW). What it does is this: You put in a bunch of text. Either write your own, put in song lyrics, the transcription of a speech, a poem, whatever you want. It comes up with a Word Cloud based on the frequency of words within the sample.
I was doing song lyrics (mostly the Sisters of Mercy, heh - did you know that the most frequent word in "This Corrosion" is "Hey?") so I figured I'd throw some InSoc lyrics in there and see what came out, and post the results.
Here you go! (click on them to make them bigger, if you want)

| InSoc T-shirt in "Choke" |
[07 Oct 2008|09:09pm] |
Guess what the newly released movie "Choke," the film adaption of Chuck Palahniuk's (author of Fight Club) book of the same title, winner of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Prize features?
A scene in which one of the main supporting characters is sporting one of the "Aliens" design Information Society t-shirts. No, for real:

Special thanks to elizabeth71 for risking getting kicked out of a movie theatre for snapping the photo.
(omg, i can't believe a shirt i designed is in a bigtime hollywood movie)
