Found this on Flickr, and I thought it made the line about the molasses flood on the live CD make a little more sense.

| Cello Help |
[28 Jun 2009|11:34pm] |
Hey there, I don't know how many cello aficionados that frequent this site but I've just started playing in public again and I'm looking for the "cello part" in Yesterday by the Beatles. I can play the vocal part but the bass line eludes me. I'm sure with time I could figure it out but I thought I'd ask.
Also has anyone here amped out their cello? I'm looking to save up some money but I'm not sure what brands, types I should be looking at.

| The Willow Tree |
[20 Jun 2009|12:28pm] |
Hey!
These days, some copies of "The Willow Tree" cd are coming to our homes. I have a favor to ask you, out there, who, like me, had a chance to grab one!
I'm gathering all the pictures to put them here, at the bottom (http://a.opillard.free.fr/melorasden.htm), on my website so that everybody can enjoy them. I'm collecting them all, the first 35 that were sold at shows, and those 100 sold on the official website!
There is a thread about it on the official Rasp board : http://www.rasputina.com/newforum/viewtopic.php?t=2284
Please, post your cover here on inourbloomers or there on the official board, so that I can gather them all !!
Thanks !!
Alexxx

| New News Post |
[16 Apr 2009|05:27am] |
Hey everyone,
There is a (not anymore) new news post on the Rasputina site! I shall copy it over.
Hello All.
We had a nice little West Coast tour. All the audiences were fun and sweet. I cried a little behind my cello when Daniel led the Eugene crowd in singing happy birthday to me. I was so touched! I never had a birthday on the road before.
It was very fun to have Dawn Micelli with us, filming her documentary. She is, of course, a crack-up. Maybe the film will be available toward the end of the summer?
We went to a 'Repo the Genetic Opera' screening in Hollywood. It was very fun! They had performers a la Rocky Horror, I met my daughter's idol- Alexa Vega, and Rasp got introduced to the crowd. It was my first time seeing the movie. Although it's fairly gory, I thought it was great.
I am again offering a charity auction item to benefit Hawthorne Valley School. It's a 3 hour rock-cello lesson for any string instrument (excluding guitar!).

Although the Willow Tree Triptych sold out, I'm going to make some more and put them up on the crafts page next week. It's an edition of 100 total. I won't make anymore, nor put them on an album.
Well, I'll see you later, Melora

| Rasp. at The Casbah in San Diego |

(crossposted to _rasputina_ for no real reason)
Just got back from the concert, and I was pretty impressed (though it has been quite a while since I last saw them live). Unfortunately the crowd was pretty small- I'd been hoping the place would be packed. Rasp hasn't been out on the west coast in a long time, and San Diego gets skipped over a lot by tours in favor of playing more in LA. Also it was an early show, which is always kinda weird.
Considering how Melora said that she'd been feeling under the weather, she certainly hit those high notes in "Watch T.V." with a damn vengeance. It was the first time I'd seen the new lineup, and it sounded wonderful to me. Daniel DeJesus can actually do a good job at singing the female backup vocals from the older songs and I really enjoyed his playing/singing. The drumming was awesome as well. Hopefully the wee ones don't run off to do solo projects too fast from the Rasputina Music Internship Program.
Highlights included Melora deciding to play a series of quick cello notes every time Daniel took a drink between songs, Melora confiding in us "even though it's none of your business" that she'd cannibalized the corpse of a gay relative that she'd just finished having sex with (yipe!), and accidentally making a sex joke during a song while she was slowly playing ascending notes to match where Daniel was... she said "hold on a second, I'm coming" before hitting the crescendo, and then got embarrassed after the song and said that wasn't what she meant. Yes, this is the sort of fabulous storytelling you have to resort to when you don't take a camera to a concert.
I tried to keep track of a setlist in my head, but they had Arrogant Bastard on tap, so that plan didn't quite work out. This is definitely incomplete and completely out of order, but it seems like they've had a pretty consistent setlist for this tour.

In little old Eugene Oregon, I got to see me some Rasputina which I haven't done since last year, when I was also their waiter. I must be the luckiest fan ever, 'cuz tonight was Ms. Creager's birthday and the whole place sang her happy birthday. Daniel is quite the new talent also. Many funny things occurred including the sound guy attempting to be artsy on Rusty the skatemaker and instead making what Melora referred to as "weird baby recordings". Was a fun concert though. That's all for now.

| Portland show! |
[25 Mar 2009|06:49pm] |
I went to the Portland show last night! It was fun.
I really couldn't get into the opening band, I think it was just the wrong music for the wrong crowd... too ambient and required a level of paying attention that I couldn't give at that time. It's always hard for opening bands. Plus, I think the sound mix was kind of bad or maybe it was because I was in the back, but it just wasn't working for me. Some guy started talking to my friends, trying to promote his myspace band... lame!
I was a little disappointed that there were not more goths! I forget sometimes that Portland isn't really a gothy city, and after seeing Rasputina in Seattle a couple times I just expect a really decked out crowd! We are more mellow here, but I did see one guy in a top hat. Good enough! I gotta say, this was the best behaved Rasputina crowd that I have EVER experienced. I was so impressed. Usually people are yelling obnoxious song requests all the time, singing along loudly, interpretive dancing, making out... but almost NONE of that happened this time, at least not that I could see/hear! Well, I did hear one request during the encore, and Rusty the Skatemaker made people cuddle, but it was all good. Near the end of the show this big guy got really, really stoked that Possum of the Grotto was being played and he was like "YEEEeeeeAHHHHHH!!! FuuuuUUUUUCK YEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!" and it was pretty funny. Best moment of his life? POSSUMS!!!!
To be honest I am kind of surprised that a lot of people have been hating on the new lineup! In terms of a live show, it didn't sound drastically different to me. Daniel is a totally energetic and talented player, and Catie is so cute with her big drum(s? I couldn't really see her set-up exactly). Sure, her drumming is different than Jonathon's but it didn't sound like it was lacking. They also kind of paved the way for male vocals with the last album and tour so it didn't seem out of place to me. I dunno. I enjoyed it. The band seemed like they were in a good mood and there were a lot of smiles and jokes, which was SO nice. The crowd had a lot to do with it, I think! It was so nice to see them having a good time, because that's why I want to see a live show, you know? Not to see them get yelled at and annoyed.
I didn't keep track of the songs exactly, but they played stuff from pretty much all the albums and Melora's more recent solo stuff, except maybe nothing from TFTE. They played one song I hadn't heard before that was SO cute, I'm not sure if it was a cover but it was a fun, 50's teenage romantic pop sounding song. It was great. I hope they record it! Other songs I enjoyed a lot included the New Zero (encore), Lunar Girl Explorer, American Girl, Yellow Cake... some others but like I said, I wasn't writing anything down.
Melora banter highlights (paraphrased):
"Portland is known around the world for being liberal, large-minded... dirty squatters."
After introducing Daniel & Catie: "I often like to take in homeless youth and teach them useful skills so they can work for me. Sometimes I even adopt them legally and then make them work even harder."
(that one was sort of butchered by my memory, but it was funny)
Anyway, that's about it- I didn't take any photos cause I wasn't close enough to the front and I think we've all seen enough live photos of the tops of their heads. Glad to see them play again!
