Contractor and plumber recommendations?

My husband and I just bought a house, and it needs some work. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best contractor or plumber you know? We're basically just looking for estimates/diagnoses of issues at this point, but do want to take care of some work soon. We are on the Northwest side of the city (73rd and Grandview-ish).

House for rent?

Forgive me for posting this everywhere, but I'm new to the Indy communities, and I'm not sure which one(s) are the most active.

I will be moving to Indianapolis in the next 4 - 10 weeks and my partner and I are looking for a rental home.

Criteria:

Short term rental (Monthly, 2-4 months, etc.)

Marion / Johnson counties

Min: 2 Bed / 2 Bath

Fenced in back yard (we have a dog)

We want to buy a place in the next year, but without me having a set move date, it'll be easier for us to rent at first.

Hey everyone, I just received this in my email for art donations at a local film festival. The theme sounds fun!

I'm extremely amused that they ask for work that's valued at least at $100. Can anyone put an accurate value on art? As a digital illustrator the best way I can do it is by quantifying my time... HMMMM....

Movie-Inspired Art Contest

Have you ever wanted to create art based on your favorite movie? Have you ever been inspired by a film? TheIndianapolis International Film Festival, a not-for-profitorganization, is inviting artists to donate movie-themed art items totheir silent art auction which will take place during the festivalApril 23^rd- May 3rd 2008. We welcome all forms of art, including 2-D and 3-D. All donated items must be movie-themed and titled.

Bydonating their artwork artists will receive 50% of the final sale priceand the chance to win a $500 prize for best piece of movie-inspiredartwork to be juried by Artist Emily Kennerk, Deanne Roth of FluxGallery, and Christopher West of iMOCA. Finalists will be announced on April 24^that the conclusion of iMOCA Night at the Indianapolis International FilmFestival. All donated art will be displayed in the Film Lounge atLandmark Theater through out the festival. This is a high traffic areawhere patrons will bid on the submitted art. Art may also be posted onthe Festival website for promotional purposes.

All donating artists will receive two free tickets for general admission to the festival films. Finalists will receive 2 tickets to the Awards Ceremony.

All items must have a $100 or greater value to be donated. IIFF is a 501c3 organization and your donation may be tax deductible.

Anyone interested in participating in the show should contact Ellen Leonard at ellenleonard@hotmail.com or 317-698-8795 to arrange donation drop-off by April 12^th 2008. All items must be submitted with the attached entry form and a short artist biography to be posted with the artwork. IIFF reserves the right to reject inappropriate donations.

my husband and i are looking into buying a house, and we're finding a lot of houses we like in the 38th st. and german church area on the far east side--i don't know much about that area (even though i've lived in indy my whole life), and while everything seems to be checking out after a quick glance the nagging voice in my head keeps telling me that there is some reason why property is so cheap out there.

so, is it really a terrible place to live? how close is it to shopping and stuff? anything else you'd tell someone who was new to the area about it?

Looking for aqua massage

Does anyone know of a place that has aqua massage beds on the Northwest side of Indy? They're usually in tanning salons or chiropractor offices, I have seen them in malls too. I haven't seen any since I moved here though.

I hate searching for work! I'm looking for a second job. I work now as an office manager in Nora. I went to IUPUI and have a bachelor's in Psychology. I'm 25. I'd like to find either a serving job/hostess job or another office job. Just something on Friday and Saturday nights. My preference is a privately owned restaurant/bar (e.g. no Applebees, etc. I'm not into corporate rules and "flare-wearing"). I've been a host before at Broad Ripple Steakhouse. I've got a lot of management experience (both business and retail). Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Roommate Wanted

I'm a 31 year old straight, but GLBT friendly, female - on the introverted/quiet side looking for a likewise quiet roommate for my 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath townhome on the north side near Westlane and Ditch. Place will become available around Dec 8th when my current roommate moves out.

Rent would be $300/mo plus half of utilities, or if you prefer a flat inclusive fee we can talk about that too. Townhome has central air, a fireplace, washer and dryer upstairs and complex has a outdoor pool open in the summer. There is a back patio and a front fenced in area that could be used for a garden were someone so inclined (I am not).

I have one cat, she's pretty low-key and tends to spend most of her time in my room. I'm looking for someone who pays their rent on time, is respectful of my property (as I will be of their's) and does their fair share of chores around the house. I've been dying to find an active knitting group that meets in Indianapolis and finally found one. If anyone cares to join in knitting/crocheting madness we meet at Panera Bread on 82nd street by the Marsh/PetSmart/Michael's strip on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm. I was there until after 9 as was most of the crew. It was a great time! New to knitting/crocheting? Don't worry, there's lots of help.
