| book for sale! |
[August 2nd 2008 at 8:28 pm] |
Hi there!
I was wondering if anyone would like to buy a copy of this book off of me?
 ( Product Description )
I used it for a film module I did in my first year of uni, but I have no use for it now & thought I'd shift it to make some money! It's in near-perfect condition (there are a few notes scribbled in it, and a few highlighted bits, but nothing that would affect the reading of the book).
I got it for £28.99 but will settle for £16 (p&p included) - if you really want it though, I'll negotiate with you further!
Let me know if you're interested by replying here or anywhere on my journal. Thanks. :)
ps. If this isn't allowed, let me know & I'll delete it.

Hello, I'm Hayley. I'm a twenty-year-old filmmaker from England.
I recently co-wrote and directed a 2 and a half minute film called Olivia, Explorer about a little girl who is accidentally left behind by her family one day as they go on their annual holiday to Wales. The film explores Olivia's imagination and naivety as she tries to find her own way there.
The film was featured on youtube's homepage twice (first on UK/Ireland, then Globally.) Considering the budget for the film was only £7 (approx. $14) and was planned, written, directed, edited and composed in under two weeks I'm surprised (albeit pleasantly) by the positive response - it now has over one million views! Kind of odd.
Anyhow, it would be great if you guys could tell me what you think...Criticism more than welcome!
You can watch the film in higher quality by going to my youtube page - here

I've been stuck in quite a rut with films. I can never decide what I want to watch anymore. So I need some help choosing.
I'd really love to watch more Pedro Almodóvar, but I don't know where to start. The last few films I've really enjoyed have all been foreign as well. But honestly, anything is welcome, I'm pretty open minded.
If you add me as a friend there's a long list on my blog of all the films I've seen this year. It's pretty pathetic(meaning it's a lot of films and I have too much free time).
Thanks!

I am a Rosario Dawson fan from way back. My favorite character was La La In He Got Game. She stars and is an executive producer of this film about a college student who is raped by a jock, and is emotionally scarred by the experience. She then meets up with some strange party boy named Adrian (played by that FYNE Marcus Patrick) who is a weird combination pimp and whore. The film turns into a revenge picture by the end but is done so artfully that it’s almost soft porn, and not that cheering ‘that’s what you get’ moment at all, but disturbingly erotic. Has anyone else seen the film and what were your impressions?

| some movies i've seen lately |
[January 31st 2008 at 9:57 pm] |

All three of these films were very delightful.

This, for my tastes, seemed typical yet so intriguing. One of my favorite recently viewed movies. I like the subtle dark humor and the character development. Dysfunctional families are always fun to watch!

finally got to see the famous John Waters' film! I got reminded of seeing it because i was watching Pecker, another wonderful John Waters masterpiece which is in my top 10 and I could never tire of. I loved it. I like lewd material and shock value. And pushing limits and boundaries. And that's what this film is for. There were some parts that bothered me a bit, which is surprising for me. But that, of course, is the joy.

i felt like i had to see this sooner or later. people like it. i had trouble with the whole "typical thriller" vs. "cool indie movie" thing, but all in all i enjoyed it. i was expecting more thrilling scenes, but that of course stems from the preconceived notion i had that it would be a typical thriller. it was interesting, maybe it could have ended better.

| Dostoevsky |
[January 18th 2008 at 6:59 pm] |
Has anyone read Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky's Notes from the Underground?
Dostoevsky was the original author of Crime and Punishment -- I'm assuming most have at least seen the show or film. Anyway, Dostoevsky told this story, Notes, back in the late 1800's through the voice of the infamous "Underground Man". This particular novel apparently gave birth to the idea of existentialism, where god is absent in individuals, thus, they are ultimately responsible.
Much like Crime and Punishment, I was thrilled to find out that someone had actually made a movie based on Notes called Shades of Day - Vitaly Sumin's first of three LA based films - http://www.shadesofday.com/critics.htm
Shades was selected by a Rutgers University's Film Professor for his 2006 course in cinema along with the classic works by Bertolucci, Kurosawa, Bresson, Scorsese, Shroeder, and Von Sternberg.
The Notes (in production) is Sumin's second installment of Dostoevsky's classic novel, with a third film in development called Shades of Blood.
Anyone wanna discuss any of Dostoevsky's ideas, thoughts, novels, and/or any of the afore mentioned films?

The West Orange Classic Film Festival is starting up again at the AMC Theater in West Orange this month. I went yesterday to see "Spartacus" on the big screen, and they have a lot more coming up. This year, they've even added a couple of foreign films to the list, which I'm looking forward to. Here's the schedule:

| Mysterious Skin (2004) |
[December 12th 2007 at 2:47 am] |

Anyone see this? Good acting, unflinching representation of child molestation and the effects on the children years later.
Some parts were hard to watch but I like that. I like shock value, and I like real things. As much as child molestation is atrocious, it is real. it still goes on, and it is still something that which light should be shone upon. People should know and understand everything in society if we have a fighting chance of really being connected to our society, world, universe. It helps us discover where we fit into everything, and how we should go about living our lives and what we should be thinking about and what we can do to help others and ourselves not lead shitty, meaningless lives. Part of the reason horrible things continue to happen is that mindset of turning a blind eye, turning to denial, shoving it out of our heads, not dealing with it. Part of the reason horrible things happen is because society says it is taboo, and produces shame in the minds of people. And shame can be a phenomenally large part of a person's sex life, depending on experiences of course. And then there's the whole blame the victim concept that our society loves. I guess that is barred for children and other helpless beings for the most part though, thankfully. Sorry this rant had nothing to DIRECTLY do with the movie. I hope that makes sense.. my writing tends to wander as I write just as my mind wanders.
Now that that one's finished, I'm off to watch Slackers. Supposedly a good indie flick. Maybe I'll post on that one, as well.

| I am a Sex Addict |
[September 4th 2007 at 4:18 pm] |

I saw this crazy indy movie this weekend called I am a sex addict directed and written by Caveh Zahedi
The man had some serious issues with self control and artfully chronicles the destruction of several relationships because of it. The sex is pretty raw, and he isn’t much to look at as he’s clearly in his late 40’s now,(not that there is anything wrong with being in your late 40's!) so you have to imagine him in his 20’s doing all this stuff. He has some background stuff about the film in the film which is spooky and amusing at the same time. It was vulgar, but not without it’s redemption at it’s end. Definitely worth seeing for the reflective types.
If you have seen this film what were your impressions of it??
