Does anyone here know how to say "Chinese food" in Hebrew? Wikipedia's giving me המטבח הסיני, but I'm completely useless without vowels.
And before anyone asks, this is for Hebrew School Musical 3: Senior Year where the illustrious Sadie Levy has managed to wrangle a Kosher Chinese feast for her two youngest sons Shlomo and Jamie and their girlfriends Yael and Anna. And the scene begins with them saying a bracha over Chinese food. So if anyone could help me translate (or transliterate, rather) "who has created Chinese food" that'd be wonderful. |

| Help! |
[Nov. 10th, 2008|01:14 am] |
Hello, my Hebraic homies!
So despite being born and raised a member of the tribe, I never experienced the glory that was Jewish overnight camp.
I'm writing a musical, however, and the first act takes place at Camp Myrtle Wyckoff, a fictional Jewish overnight camp in East Schmaltz, New Hampshire. It's a movie musical (think "Hebrew School Musical") and in the interest of time, I'm showing the development of Yael and Shlomo's relationship through a montage of them doing fun summer camp activities.
So, friends, I'm looking for your input....
What were the highlights of YOUR Jewish overnight camp experiences? |

| October 17th Stand Up Fundraiser for Barack Obama! |
[Oct. 1st, 2008|06:23 pm] |
Folks,
It's crunch time in the presidential election, and there are still a lot of voters out there who haven't decided either way. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are working hard to win over the swing voters. Several rockin' comics and I want to help!
I know you've already dropped some cash on Obama buttons that haven't arrived and a shirt that came in the wrong size. Don't hold that against him. And, more importantly, don't let that keep you from our "last push" fundraiser! There will be comedy, music, a special video message from someone that we'd like to believe is the real VP nominee for the GOP, and a raffle with some pretty nice prizes!
Oh, and a Republican elephant pinata!
So, come one, come all to SNC: Switzerland Neutral Comedy's Un-Neutral Fundraiser for Obama/Biden!
Let's make change with comedy! -Evan M.

| Introducing Tirtzah: A Community for Frum Queer Women |
[May. 30th, 2008|11:09 am] |
Tirtzah: The Blog http://tirtzah.wordpress.com/
Tirtzah: The E-mail List http://groups.google.com/group/Tirtzah
We are a community of frum queer women who gather to celebrate and study our yiddishkeit. We are committed to the value of shleimut (wholeness) and to supporting one another in observing a meaningful, integrated, honest and joyful Jewish life.
We started this blog and e-mail list in order to share our stories of weaving together the queer and Jewish (and secular!) parts of our lives and explorations of halacha, community, dignity, yiddishkeit, gender identity and sexual orientation.
If you are a lesbian, bisexual or queer identified woman who is religious, observant and/or Orthodox… or is on the path to becoming more halachically observant… we welcome you to join our e-mail discussion group. In addition to our e-mail discussion group and this blog, we hold events in the New York City area.
Are you a religious queer Jewish woman with a story to share? We are looking for guest posters, so if you would like to write something for this blog, please e-mail us at tirtzahcommunity at gmail.com |
