Fraud, White Eagle Woman Selling the medicine This woman has been a common topic on many of the native e-mail discussion lists, etc. for a while now. Here is a video of her, and bits of one of her so called ceremonies. This was hilarious but also quite sick and deeply saddening. Watch her throw hershy kisses in a so called sacred fire! Unbelievable! For those that cannot see the man doing the filming gives a great description of what is going on. Stop White Eagle Woman | | Sunday, May 11th, 2008 | 12:11 am [murphstein]

I recently moved to Arizona from California. I don't have any Native American ancestry and I'm here to ask a couple questions about symbols of Native American spirituality. ( Read more... )On a very different subject... About five years ago, I had a few opportunities to participate in women's sweat lodges that welcomed non-Natives. The experiences were deeply spiritual and (at least from my limited perspective) seemed to transcend any single religious tradition. Ever since, I've wanted very much to go to more sweats, but haven’t been able to find any. Do you know of sweats in Arizona that might allow non-Natives to participate? (I'm in Prescott, which is about an hour and a half from Flagstaff or Sedona, and two hours from Phoenix.) Thank you very much for your time. | | Saturday, May 10th, 2008 | 5:14 pm [imafarmgirl]

Yankton Hog Farm Issue The Yankton Hog Farm Issue is being talked about over on http://www.earthcycles.net There are audio files and sometimes live streaming broadcasts of interviews from the people there. They are talking about why they are protesting the hog CAFO, the events that are occuring including arrests, and other information they are gaining as they go. It appears that the Longest Walk has sent people up to the Yankton reservation, or at least that is my understanding. I found the earth cycles site a tad confusing but if you check out audio files of the past few days you will hear the interviews from the people themselves, instead of second hand stuff from reporters. The one that is streaming tonight that I'm currently listening to, talks about issues with CAFOs and why they are bad. I found it interesting that South Dakota state police felt that they could go on to tribal land and arrest people, it's not their jurisdiction. I think some court cases will come out of this issue and I think it is an important issue for Indian people, and their supporters to become familliar with. | 7:18 pm [mochaviolino]

Postcards Hey everyone, [If this is inappropriate, I'll kindly take it down :) ] The student organization I'm involved with is selling postcards to help raise funds for women's crisis centers and shelters on the Navajo Nation, and we're looking at doing a summer project in the White Mountains area as well. 100% of all proceeds benefit these centers, so please look into buying some! Below is the basic shpiel about the postcards and project. *** Did you know that over 1 in 3 American Indian women will be raped or sexually assaulted in her lifetime, compared to 1 in 5 among all other American women? Or that 86% of these reported rapes are committed by non-Native men who cannot be prosecuted by tribal officials? In an effort to raise awareness about these invisible issues and raise funds for women's centers, Women Beyond Borders (a non-profit student organization at Arizona State University) is selling unique postcards designed by a local artist. For $10, you will receive 3 postcards featuring artwork by acclaimed local artist Joerael Elliot. In addition to that, you will also receive a fact sheet about Native women's issues and a brochure featuring other Women Beyond Borders projects. 100% of all proceeds benefit the Ama doo Alchini Bighan (ADABI) Crisis Center in Chinle, AZ, as well as the only three (severely under-funded) women's shelters located on the Navajo reservation. And to ease the eco-activist in all of us, all postcards are printed on 100% recycled paper with vegetable-based inks! To purchase an order, please visit mochaviolino.etsy.com Thanks so much for your consideration! Mohawks at Tyendinaga, Six Nations, Canada I received the following e-mail. If you think this isn't for real you are badly mistaken. I've been getting many e-mails on this for a while now, news articles, etc., but this one explains the situation better, gives contact info, and explains what sort is needed for the Six Nations brothers and sisters in their stand off with the police. DQ University ( D-Q backers stage protest over last week's arrests )The fact that they arrested people who were in a sweat lodge ceremony makes me absolutely sick. What is the world coming to? It's not much better than it was decades ago and that is sad. | | Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 | 10:37 pm [anjibobanji]

Hi, I was looking through the posts and read some good papers by angel_one, sometime when I am not running out the door I will post a paper or two myself, I am a 3rd year graduate student in ethnic studies, my focus being NA history (20th century mostly), global indigeneity and women in social movements. I was looking at this article, recommended to me by a friend, it is by a Ph.D. student (or he was, Glen Coulthard) and I think it is really interesting. http://www.palgrave-journals.com/cpt/journal/v6/n4/full/9300307a.htmlHere is a cut and paste to the pdf if that does not work. www.cpsa-acsp.ca/papers-2006/Coulthard.p df | | Friday, March 28th, 2008 | 8:18 am [imafarmgirl]
