Title: Stuttering Toward Ecstasy
Author: ME! )
Pairing: Ed/Envy Envy/Ed
Rating: It's M (R) on Fanfiction.net, but nothing too graphic.
Summary: Edward Elric currently hates high school. He should’ve been in a Speech Class. But due to the fact that Izumi Curtis’s room had suffered massive water damage, Ed was place in Humanities, an English class centered around public speaking. A month into school, the school district scrapped the plans for the renovation of Izumi’s room and instead moved Speech Class to the Art wing. Now all Ed has to do is give one last speech and he’s free. Easy? Wrong. Ed has a severe stutter and Grand seems to be doing everything in his power to make it worse.
It has a chapter ELEVEN now! )

NEW STORY
Title: If )
Author: kittyebony13 )
Pairing: Ed/Envy
Rating PG-13/Teen
Official Summary: "FMA AU. Envy and Ed go to the same school, but Ed doesn't have a clue that Envy's been in love with him since second grade. When they're forced to work together on a project their senior year, Ed discovers some things he didn't know. WARNING: Yaoi R&R!"

My Take: "If" is a lot better than it sounds, trust me. The huge two person project seems completely natural. Normally, when I read fanfics with that plot, I question it. How many times have I ever had to do a project with someone I liked? I think once, in all 12 years of public school. And even then it was a group project. Actually, make that twice. But the kick, it works for the story. It's actually believable here. It's really cute too.

It's awesome, read it.

Finally, I decided that it might be a gold idea to post the 3 other chapters here. Look! There's actually a fourth chapter and I have a fifth one, waiting to be edited by betas and partially re-written by me.
Anyway, here are chapters 2 through 4. Enjoy.

Stuttering Towards Ecstacy
Rated T for mild swearing
Warnings: First Person, Swearing, and questioning of Al's masculinity
Summary: Due to the fact that speech pathologist Izumi Curtis's classroom collasped, Ed is stuck giving a presentation to his Humanities class. Why is this such a big deal? Simple, Ed stutters.

Chapter Two: In which Winry hides weapons in her bra, Russell is anti-social, Sloth is unintenionally heroic, and Ed reminds us that he is asexual and does not have urges )

Chapter Three: In which Winry loses it, Russell gets it, cats fall from buildings, and Ed questions his (a)sexuality )

Chapter Four: In which Grant is cruel, Envy makes a cameo appearance, Hohenheim breaks traffic laws, and gets flipped off by an old lady in a walker )

I was going to have the title be a really clever play off of Sarah McLachlan's song, "Stumbling Towards Ecstacy". Unfortunately, that's not the name of the song. It's actually "Fumbling Towards Ecstacy".

I would love constructive criticism on how I did with first person.

Oh and Humanities is an English course offered at my school. I'm not taking it and therefore have no idea what it's really like. The most I know is that the class is reading Socrates. I think they give a lot of presentations though.

-sweatdrops- Erm, hey....

Well, I'm from FanFiction.Net, and my Envy/Ed fic - my first with actual slash, and first for FMA in genrel. Yeah, your dealing with a 'baby' to FMA writing. I might add, timidly, that while it is a b-day fic for one of the few people who can get me to write slash, and it's rather plotless, seeing as it does have only five chapters.... it's also complete. This does not mean I'm unwilling to change grammer or a few odd sentenses. In fact I know it needs it- but I'm unsure if I'd doing a sequal, or just leaving it as is...

Also, OCs aren't human, and no annoying AN in the middle. No worries.

Well, here it is....enjoy.

Envious Ways

Summary: They had gone beyond the Gate, and found that ‘equivalences exchanges’ and the science of alchemy were utterly and completely useless here. It simply did not work. And that aggravated Ed beyond speech sometimes. EnvyEd Yaoi Slash

Leaving-ness

So, I'm going to be leaving for three weeks starting on the 10th. I'll be in Alaska so the internet will be pretty sketchy, especially since my dad's laptop SUCKS!
Peace )
I hope the cut works. *crosses finger* *crosseseyes for good measure*
dogstardreams is now in charge (statement goes into effect on the 10th) so direct all questions her way.
Of course you could always try to get a hold of me. Good luck though. My dad's laptop can barely handle Word at times.

And, the only fanart allowed here are illustrations to stories that are posted here. Preferrably they'd be drawn by the author, however if the best you can manage is stick figures...
Also, illustrations should only be posted for AUs and non-AUs that require drastic costume changes.
Ex. 1 Non-Au: Ed's taken up tigh rope walking and mint green spandex doesn't even begin to describe it.
ALLOWED. Should probably warn us before you burn our eyes out though.

Ex. 2 Non-AU: Ed loses his shirt.
NOT ALLOWED. Why? It leads me to believe you're a) too lazy to describe it properly. b) I can find it on Google and it's probably more accurate there.

Ex. 3 Non-Au: Ed gets a complicate tatoo that's part of some ritual forever bonding him, mind body and soul, to Envy.
ALLOWED: because it relates to the story and you've probably diaghram it out because you're obsessive like that.

General rule of thumb for AUs:
Relates to the story.
You had to draw it in order to visualize it.

Recap:
Illustrations: must relate to the story (diagrams, necklaces, outfits...). Can't be of Armstrong naked(--because there's not enough acid and slash on this planet to ever make it better). Must include warnings in CAPS or bold. Warnings should be for things like BLOOD, SLASH, NOT WORK SAFE, and the like.

And that's all.

Here's the fifth chapter. And yes I am aware that there is no fourth. So is Insanity, only she's *painfully* aware.

Chapter six is in the works, I hope to post it here before I leave for Alaska.

Chapter Five: The Bitter End

Izumi Curtis was a fairly successful woman. During her career as a traveling nurse, and later as a renowned surgeon, she’d proved that she was capable of the impossible. )
So here goes the first post. I apologize for he lack of fourth chapter. That is not my fault. It's Insanity's, who, incidentally, is the person I'm writing this with. She also came up with the summary.

And without ado, I present:

PLAYING WITH FIRE

(because if you play with fire, you're going to get burned)

After getting out from Juvenile hall, being forcibly reunited with his father, and made to move to a town in the middle of nowhere you’d think Ed’s life would be hellish enough. That is until he met Envy, Sloth, and Insanity. Warnings: pyromania, slash, good music etc.

There has been some confusion about our rules and policies, so I hope this will help straighten it out.

What is this community about?

The EdxEnvy improvement project was formed mostly because of the lack of decent fanfiction on FFN. We are set up as a place where fanfiction writers can read and comment on each other's work; meaning that authors can post their stories in this community and others will (constructively) criticize and compliment them.  This is a fanfiction only community; if you want to post fanart or topics, [info]envy_x_ed or [info]envyedo, two other EdxEnvy communities on LJ.
Hopefully, this will become an archive where people can find good fanfiction and talk to other authors to improve their writing.

What do you mean by good fanfiction?

I am aware that good is a subjective term, with different definitions for different people. In this community, a good fanfiction is one which 1. has good grammar and spelling,

2. makes sense (the reader can or will eventually understand why the characters take the actions they do), and finally

3. has a plot - PWP (PlotWhatPlot) stories are not allowed, and neither are crackfics (see the rules).

All types of stories are accepted, and both canon and AU fics are encouraged. Fluff is accepted along with nonconsensual relationships and darkfics, as long as the story is written well. (See above criteria.)

If I post them, can I expect a well-rounded constructive criticism for all my works?

When I say that authors will comment on your work, this is not a guarantee of a complete construcitve criticism on every single thing you post. However, constructive criticism, and commenting in general, is extremely encouraged, as it will help the author with future stories. I, myself ([info]dogstardreams ), will do my best to comment on every entry I can, but I can't guarantee that others do. I think it would be nice to adopt that policy but many people that are involved in this community probably lack the time. So I will do what I can, and I expect that the others will too.

If I join this community, do I have to post fanfiction?

Don't feel pressured, although we would like to read whatever stories you have. You are, however, encouraged to take an active role in The EdxEnvy Improvement Project by offering constructive criticism for the fics that are posted.

Note: We allow pride!Ed fics, character deaths, and

Essentially, our mission is to create a fanfiction community with "good" EdxEnvy (or EnvyxEd) fics that are written in a wide range of styles and by a wide range of authors. We also want to help budding writers improve by offering constructive criticism for their works and, in general, improving the quality of EdxEnvy fanfictions that are available to fans. So, with that in mind, feel free to submit, or post a link to, your stories. We'd love to hear from you and we hope that this will be a good experience for everyone.

The Purpose

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Ed, fan girls
This community was started after unhtaa_kissa (can't figure out cuts and stuff) and dogstardreams realized exactly how little serious EdxEnvy fanfiction there was. Sure there's 12 pages of it on Fanfiction.net, but most of it is either short, fluffy, or just plain bad.
Now there's nothing wrong with humor, except it can bit a bit irritating when you're looking for a good fic and they're all trying to be funny.

This community seeks to change that by encouraging authors to post their work and have it critiqued by other members. The stories here should be somewhat serious and have the ability to go somewhere. This means NO crack-fics, unless you're willing to make it make some sort of sense and give it a plot.
Examples of things that we WILL NOT allow:

Annoted (sp?) fics. You know the ones where they have (AN: XD that was so...)s spaced throughout the story. Your thoughts are allowed at the end and the beginning, NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORY!

Fics written in netspeak. (This should be obvious)

NO MARY SUES EVER!

No Armstrong involved romatically with Ed or Envy EVER! (Because I like my soul unbroken, thank you very much

Refusal to improve

Other than that we allow everything else. However, there's really no point in posting here if you aren't serious. This isn't the place for crack fics. Don't post stories that are mainly humor here. That's what we're trying to get away from. That's not to say that you can't be funny, just try to be realistic.

You'll notice that there's no rule about OOC (out of character). This is because I don't believe in it, well not really. As I see it, it's utterly pointless to argue about how ooc this character is compared to cannon. Since we aren't writing cannon, everything is ooc. What I consider out of character is when the character does comething that completely breaks with how you've written it.

Ex. Winry has been written as being obsessed with Ed. However when he tells her he's going out with Envy she's fine with it, passing it off as "female intuition."

Not to say that it couldn't happen in your story just not like that. If you intend on doing something like that, you are required to provide an explanation.

Ex 1. Winry was just pretending to be obsessed with Ed to cover for her secret desire for Al, who is too young for her/in a coma/paralyzed whatever or if you really wanted to twist things, she could in love with Hohonheim and using Ed as an excuse to see him. The point is, Winry's only acting.

Ex 2. She's using Ed to cover up the fact that she's a lesbian. (This tactic is often employed to explain Naruto's obsession with Sakura "he's only doing it because he's gay for Sasuke!")

Ex 3. She's not over it and is planning to get revenge.

The list goes on and on. The point is, anything, even something as absurd as Winry lusting after Hohenheim, can be done if you support it with evidence. This is why there's no ooc as generally understood rule.

I'd also like to avoid cliches. However, they can be done well. J. K. Rowling has loads of cliches: all the Slytherins are either ugly or absolutely gorgeous. The Dark Lord wants to take over the world (soooo cliched) But, we still read it and love it.

So to recap:
No crack fics, Armstrong-as-bedmate, Mary Sues, or refusing to improve. Stories posted must be believable and spelling and grammer checked (unhtaa_kissa has spell check and will eagerly beta stories from this community).

That is all.

Yours sarcastically,

KISSA.
As an Edvy fan (More EdxEnvy, but I will read EnvyxEd), I will admit that I am bothered by the lack of good fic on my OTP. However, I am aware of the fact that the definition of "good fic" varies from person to person.

I am curious as to this community's definition of "good fic" when it comes to beloved OTP. What are the standards that this community upholds? What are some examples of good and bad fic in this community's opinion?

If I can think of any more questions, I will come and edit this post.

Thanks!
