I love putting together IKEA furniture, but I suck at mounting it to the wall!  I almost got crushed by a bookcase after putting doors on it, and the necessity of wall mounting became very clear to me...

Do you have any wall mounting tips? I have the tall and thin Besta Bookcases with the wacky mounting brackets that I just don't understand.

    ikea mattresses
i *know* some of you must have gotten your mattresses at ikea. right?!

anyway. i've always been hesitant to buy a cheap mattress, but last time i was at ikea, i tried out some of their inexpensive foam mattresses, and was surprised at how comfortable i found them. so now i'm actually thinking of buying one, because i do need a new mattress. i'm choosing between the sultan fidjetun and the sultan favang.

do any of you guys own the fidjetun or the favang? how do you like it? is it still comfortable after months of sleeping on it? and if you have any other ikea mattresses to recommend/not recommend, that info would be very much appreciated as well!

    BEDDINGE LOVAS
I just noticed the BEDDINGE LOVAS futon is now $199.

Seems to be just the dark gray one though. Does anyone know if this price is for the frame, mattress, and cover all together??

In a previous post I was asking about the EXARBY one because I wanted to get a replacement mattress and cover, however IKEA was sold out at the time I went. But for $199 I might just upgrade to this one because it's bigger, but only if that price is for all the parts.

    Help! - deep fat fryer
    Hello!

I seem to recall Ikea selling a small stainless steel pot that had a wire mesh insert that could be removed for deep frying. I was hunting through the catalogue and was in store today, but I couldn't find it, and staff don't know if it was discontinued or if it even exists. Does anyone here remember what I'm talking about? If I can even find out the product name I might be able to find one on ebay or something.

If anyone can help I'd be so grateful!

    IKEA APP--SwedeShop
    Hi everyone,

For ages, I've been looking/hoping for an IKEA app for the iPhone/iPod Touch. I am happy to say that I have finally found one :). It's not developed by IKEA, but it does an amazing job of integrating their style. I used it today on my semi-regular Sunday trip and it made shopping there so much easier.  There's also a budget calculator, which is helpful for me personally because I can't seem to go into IKEA without leaving with at least 5 unplanned items :).

It can be found here. Enjoy!

Okay, I admit it. Sometime Ikea has adorable stuff.
The hubby and I have an apartment with woefully boring walls, so we've decided to take an oath and burn maybe $50-100 per pay period at IKEA to fix things up until we're satisfied.

Our problem with the walls - landlord won't let us actually put nails or screws in the walls to mount things, so we have to find extremely light frames for our artwork, so the mounting strips will hold. And the stuff we found at Ikea last night was awfully heavy. But we found some frames, and a nice Lack side table on the cheap.

But...while shopping I fell in love with the Knubbig table lamp. Dear lord, where has this cute thing been all my life? We're doing the front room in black, red, and silver, so the white Knubbig is *aces* for a little side lamp. Got one, going back next week for the next one and another Lack table.

    Desk chair suggestions?
I got an Alve secretary desk a couple years ago, and am currently in need of a new desk chair. The main problem I have is with the desk's height—it's taller than your average computer desk and there don't seem to be too many chairs out there that adjust to the height I need (one that can be adjusted to around 25"-26" for the seat height would be ideal). Has anyone else ever run into this situation and/or have recommendations? I'm equally open to both IKEA and non-IKEA chair suggestions; something ergonomic and/or not too expensive is a big plus. Thanks in advance!

    Exarby futon cover/mattress replacement
I have the Exarby futon, which I recall was a very popular item and it looks like it's discontinued.

About a year or so ago, I considered replacing the cover, and IKEA only sold the mattress AND cover together. At that point, I didn't want or need another mattress.

Now, I think I do want to replace both as they're 5 years old and my kitten just barfed ALL over the cover, soaking into the mattress. I cleaned it, but the cover itself is looking dingy and gross anyway.

Does anyone know if IKEA still sells the mattress and cover? I don't see it on their site. I'm in the US.

This is what I'm talking about (the pic is just the frame and the mattress):

we own this shelf  and we've stuffed the whole thing with books. it doesn't look good.

anyone have any suggestions for how to make the best use of this shelf? i was thinking some combination of books and knick knacks would work. i want it to look less cluttered and make the room look inviting.

I think that I lost the last person that was interested, so I'm going to try posting here again. Hello! I'm not sure if this is allowed, so pardon this post if it isn't, but I have an ikea gift card for $94 and some odd cents that I have absolutely no purpose for. I recently moved out of a large city and now live too far away from an ikea to have good use for the gift card without enduring some ridiculous shipping fees, so I'm looking to sell it. I will accept paypal as the only form of payment, and can send out the gift card the day after. I'm only looking for $80 for it, so you get $15 free at ikea. It's a great deal! Anyone interested, please leave a comment with your e-mail address and I will e-mail you from my personal account, as I am hardly ever on LJ anymore. Thanks!

Mikael Corner Desk & Life's Little Ironies
Last Friday, I bought a Mikael corner workstation. I've been talking myself out of getting one for quite some time, but a generous tax return and frustration with lack of shelving on my current computer desk finally got me to buy one. Due to lack of time, it hasn't been assembled yet and is still in the boxes.

On Sunday, because irony is apparently my middle name, my computer broke. I got the corner workstation knowing it would fit my computer...and now it looks like I will be getting a different computer.

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the space where you put the monitor on the Mikael corner desk? It says on the Ikea website it will hold a 19" monitor but I know the space is bigger than that...best I can recall it's something like 23" across? I want to be sure my new computer will fit before I go and assemble it, because otherwise it'll rather defeat the purpose of the desk. At worst, I can just go to Ikea and measure it (and then return the desk while I'm there if it doesn't work), but I figured I would throw the question out here first before wasting gas and time.

    Thanks, everyone!

Hi I need new covers for my sofa but it's been discontinued! It seems like it is a problem for many NIKKALA users. I'm located in Australia. If anyone could please tell me where I can get them (other than Bemz) or if anyone is willing to sell me theirs please leave a comment! Any color will do!

    Male/Female paper lamps!?
I just went on the Ikea website and I couldn't find the paper floor lamps that are shaped as a male and a female figure.

    Did they discontinue them? :(

    Hello!
Hello! This is my first post here. :)

I live in Tampa, FL and was just hired as a new coworker for the store that is opening very soon! Some of our sales people will be at the Orlando store today and tomorrow for training. I'm a cashier, so I think I'll be taking a lovely fieldtrip to the Sunrise store.

I love Ikea and always have. I was terribly upset when I moved out of Michigan right before the Canton, MI store opened. I lived so close to it! So, now I'm very appreciative of the fact that I'll have an Ikea that's only two miles away from my house. It'll be doubly nice to work there.

My first purchase once the store opens will be the Hemnes bedroom set. I would have bought it in Orlando, but I drive a Mazda Miata and the balancing act with boxes is a lot easier on a 2 mile commute than on a 75 mile commute. :)

Is there a community on LJ for Ikea coworkers? If not, there should be one!
