193 I Heart Huckabees quotation icons. I didn't do the entire movie, and I don't think I'm going to finish it--at least, not in this format. I kind of like these, but I kind of don't. I'm going to try putting quotations on screen caps from the movie and making it as readable as possible. I think it would be better than the pattern bases. (: Anywayyyyy, enjoy the icons!

I love the movie I heart huckabees.I decided to join this community because probly Im the only person within 500 miles of where I live that likes this movie and im looking for an
outlet of discussion.My favorite scene is just after Caterine takes the picture and gives it
to Albert and he finaly realises how were all connected by the insanity of life.It's pretty

Hey all. I just joined the community but I've seen the movie a while ago. I just never thought about joining an LJ community about it :D

But yeah. It's such an awesome movie. I loved the poem Albert said at the beginning of the movie. And I thought it was cool how he was argueing with himself in his head hahaha. Because I guess we all sort of do that... sometimes... right? At least I do.

And I love that quote HOW AM I NOT MYSELF? and also for me it's like when you do something and somebody else is like "Whoa. That's so out of character for you to do that" (OK, they don't use that sentence structure exactly).. but it's like WHY NOT? If it's ME doing it, why can't it be my character. And then it gets me down about how we just become a "personality" instead of an actual person capable of doing different things.. it gets me down.

But yeah. It was a GRRRRRRREAT movie. I'm always telling people to watch it cos it's THAT great.

I'm new here. I just joined yesterday after watching the movie for the first time. I loved it. I had heard from a friend that it was really good. I started it thinking it would probably be decent, but finished loving it. I actually watched it again today.

It was hilarious. I love Mark Wahlberg's character, Tommy, he's hilarious. The best part though is Brad's face when Tommy pushes him with his hand on Brad's face. I watched that part over and over. Brad's expression is priceless. He looks like he's getting knocked out or something.

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that there's another Huckabees lover in the world. I'm going to go buy it this weekend!

Hello all!!

I fell in love the first time i saw this movie. It put everything i was thinking into perspective. This movie has evolved in my mind into something new everytime i see it. I saw it around the time it first came out in the movie theater (around the end of 2004), so it had alot of time to stew in my mind.

These werent entirely new concepts, but it really put me out of a minor existentialism depression :)

My english class is now introducing existentialism into my classes vocab (we're reading Kafka at the moment), so i suggested we watch parts of Huckabees as another mean of explaining what existentialism is (or attempting to).

I need some help picking out the "ideal" existential moment of the movie.
My thoughts are
-the ever so famous blanket scene
-the moment when we are introduced to the firefighter character (when he is having the crisis and yelling at the detectives)
-the french detective explaining life (one of the various scenes)
-the end of the movie (the fire scene) i want to avoid using this, just in case some people actually want to see the movie and i dont want to ruin it for them

I need your opinions

Hey all, just joined,
LOVED the movie! absolutely fantastic,
i got free tickets for me and my roommate out of the paper, had no idea what it was.
SUPERB!
got home read all the reviews i could find, and was pissed off, half of them were about Mark Walberg, and the fact that he "rode the bike to a fire in a statement against polution!"
which pissed me right off, cause in my eyes that had nothing to do with the movie,
and then all the reviews kept talking about "what the do we know" and saying it was SO much better.
It sucked! the only movie i've seen that i actually left the theatre half way into the movie!
So yeah, glad to find some people who loved the movie too!
....
sorry, been up for like 24 hours now, and when i'm tired i get hyper.

Hello, how is everyone? :)

After much ado, my brother finally took the time to watch this grand movie. Much to my horror his opinion on the movie was "it was a thinly-veiled satire of how therapists/doctors/intellectuals babble a lot"..."people putting mud on themselves..that was making fun of these theories on life." Okay, so I understand that people have different opinions on movies, that we interpret them differently, but come on! I tried to no avail to explain that it was a sincere conversation dealing with actual life issues, nihilism vs. existentialism, or are they in concert, etc. What I am wondering is, am I the fool who does not realize it's making fun of weirdos like me who actually do consider these things in their mind?

What is worse is that he is an actor, who "knows" more about this movie-making deal than me. Therefore perhaps his view of the movie is correct. Thoughts?

psychotropic drugs do NOT enhance understanding. the things that do enhance understanding are reason, sobered organization of beliefs, and the 5 senses while they are actually appropriately grounded and in touch with reality. "drugs open your mind." the only possible defense for this statement is an appeal to esoteric, mystical experiences. if you can't articulate those amazing acid-induced truths in reasoned, sober speech, then why should anyone else believe they are worth half a shit. cuz the more plausible explaination is that your brain is manipulated into THINKING that what you have stumbled upon is profound.

sorry, drugs are entertaining. period. they don't aid philosophy or thought. just experience. if it was the case that you could come closer to truth with the aid of drugs, then mathematicians and philosophers would trip to construct arguements and solutions.

in fact, i would argue that drugs CLOSE your mind. the sober person considers reason and can take other arguements into account when inquiring about truth. the one on drugs just looks for his personal subjective experience to reveal "truth."

hey, if you want to do it for entertainment, that's fine. but stoners pretending to have some key to enlightenment through fucking with brain chemistry. i'm sorry, for those of us who think STRAIGHT, that's just retarded. but have fun being entertained.

i was not saying that every has to do it to perceive the movie, the movie's concept, actually, is rather simple to grasp.
and in no way is it or should it be ridiculous to do drugs.
also it is neither a "synthetic wake-up call" nor a "mental bitch slap" to try expanding your mind to new ideas and possibilities, which is what drugs CAN do.

infants rock themselves into euphoric states, children spin themselves round and round numerous times for the effect. it is a powerful technique to change their awareness.
some even experiment with hyperventilation to laugh uncontrollably and cause a state of well-being.

and even these can practices produce uncomfortable results, such as dizziness or nausea (just like drugs) and even when their parents tell them that it is "ridiculous" they do it again and again, now why do you think that this is so?

because it is their desire to change their own consciousness and awareness.
and it does not seem to be a product of a particular culture, but rather to arise from something basically human. people have been doing this since the dawn of time.

people also take drugs for other reasons. throughout history, people have used drug-induced states to transcend their sense of separateness and feel more at one with nature, god, and the supernatural. weed was used in ancient india, and many psychedelic plants are still used today by indians in north and south america. alcohol has been used for religious purposes all over the world, wine in catholic and judaic rites persists as an example.

and even aside from drugs ritual significance, their pharmacological effects can also enhance social interaction, people take drugs to relieve anxiety, depression, lethargy, and insomnia. the idea that unwanted moods are disease states treatable by taking medicines has become very popular in our society. the pharmaceutical industry has both encouraged AND capitalized on this notion, with the result that the majority of legal medical drugs sold today are aimed at changing undesired moods and to treat disease.

because psychoactive drugs REALLY DO make people feel different(and better), doctors, patients, philosophers, poets, and musicians agree, and have always relied heavily on them.

individuals throughout history have taken drugs to explore and investigate parts their own minds that are not ordinarily accessible. the philosopher aldous huxley, who experimented mescaline in the 1950s wrote a book called the doors of perception that has been widely used by other great thinkers and professors of today. sigmund freud, the father of psychoanalysis, took cocaine.
charles baudelaire, a famous french poet, took hashish as well as opium for creative inspiration.
edgar allan poe took opiates. the beatles, bob dylan, the doors, you name it, they used it to expand their realities and tap into something extra for creative inspiration.

here's some suggested reading for you: andrew weil's "the natural mind: a new way of looking at drugs and the higher consciousness. it examines drug-taking as a method of changing consciousness and speculates on why altered states of consciousness are so important. and the shaman woman, "mainline lady: women's writings on the drug experience" is an anthology that gives a broad overview of different ways of looking at and of using many drugs.

and i'm not saying that you shou8ld go and inject heroin into your jugular or anything like that.
i'm just saying that you should keep your mind open to different things.

That last post was just f**king ridiculous and takes away credibility from both yourself and also from Huckabees to anybody listening to you who hasn't seen it. To do that stuff would really be missing the whole point, in my humble opinion.

The reality, the blanket, the everything shouldn't have to be experienced when you alter your mind with a synthethic wake-up call or a mental bitch-slap. You should be able to feel it completely in your normal, hopefully peaceful and relaxed state. Try meditation or something.

But here I go getting worked up. See Brad, we're the same, it's all the blanket... Now I'm smooshing MYself!
