| *tries to raise community from the dead* |
[28 Jun 2009|11:33am] |
I'd like to get some activity going at this community again; I know there are lots of new fandoms out there, and plenty of characters who still need love!
Since all existing claims (before the two I've just added today) are a year or more past their deadline, I'm removing all claims that haven't been completed. You're welcome to claim characters again if you're confident you can write an entry for your character in eight weeks.
The master list is here, along with guidelines for writing your essay, and you can claim characters in comments. You're welcome to claim characters and fandoms that aren't listed; some characters are already listed as available (because they were once claimed), but you can always add others.

| Honour, Wisdom, Kindness and Courage: Théoden King of Rohan |
[13 Feb 2008|01:00pm] |
Title: Honour, Wisdom, Kindness and Courage: Théoden King of Rohan Author: the_stowaway Character: Théoden King of Rohan Fandom: Lord of the Rings (book!verse) Spoilers: Does this even apply to a book published in 1954-55? *g* Beta: viva_gloria Author's Note: This essay concerns itself with the book, rather than the movies, for, while Peter Jackson will ever have my awed respect for his magnificent achievement, and while Bernard Hill was brilliant as Théoden, it is to the source text that my heart is given first, last and always. I read it first in 1966, and have re-read it at least once a year since. Each time it fills me with love and a renewed sense of wonder.

[13 Dec 2007|07:00am] |
It's that time again here at idol_reflection when we say: post 'em if you got 'em.
I will soon be removing claims for essays due prior to October 1, or claimed by journals that are now deleted. If you made a claim in the distant past and still want to post your essay, please comment here or on the claims post to request a new due date.

| idol_reflection is now open for business on GreatestJournal as well |
[09 Aug 2007|02:39pm] |
Owing to recent concerns about LJ's terms of service, we're opening a GreatestJournal version of this community, idol_reflection. Please feel free to post your essays on either version of the community, or to cross-post to both. You can also repost essays you've posted here in the past to the GJ community, and in fact we encourage you to do so.
We've reserved the idol_reflection username on InsaneJournal as well, and will consider opening that community to posting as well if that seems to be where large portions of fandom are headed.
Barring disaster, we will keep this community open on LiveJournal, but we wanted to give you another option for posting, and to encourage you to help us back up this community by reposting to the GJ comm -- this community has seen a lot of fabulous work in the last three years, and I'd hate to see any of that work lost.

Title: The Noblest Romana Author: lizbeeCharacter: Romana Fandom: Doctor Who
Spoilers: Seasons 16-18, the Time War, plus various books and the Gallifrey audio series. Notes: Probably contains more behind-the-scenes info than most reflections, due to the nature of the series and the way characters were created and written. Bear with me.

| Like A Velvet Glove Cast In Iron: Jack Bauer (24), by puritybrown |
[08 May 2007|11:38pm] |
Title: Like A Velvet Glove Cast In Iron: Jack Bauer Author: puritybrown Character: Jack Bauer Fandom: 24 Spoilers: Contains spoilers through Day Six, 1:00am-2:00am. Notes: Because of the show's "real time" format, the episodes of 24 do not have conventional titles, being referred to instead as "Day One, 12:00am-1:00am" etc; the seasons are referred to as Day One, Day Two and so on. Whoo! This is long, and was a lot harder to write than I thought it would be. I hope it does Jack justice.
I've killed two people since midnight. I haven't slept in over 24 hours. So maybe you should be a little more afraid of me than you are. --Jack Bauer, Day One
You still have a life, Jack. You wanna be a real hero, here's what you do. You get back down there and you put the pieces together. You find a way to forgive yourself for what happened to your wife. You make things right with your daughter, and you go on serving your country. That'd take some real guts. --George Mason to Jack Bauer, Day Two
When you were down there with us I had no idea you were an agent. We accepted you. You didn't need to put the needle in your arm -- you did that for other reasons. The same reason as all other junkies. To kill the pain. What's your pain, Jack? What does the needle make go away? --Ramon Salazar to Jack Bauer, Day Three
Do you understand the difference between dying for something and dying for nothing? The only reason I fought so hard to stay alive in China was because I didn't want to die for nothing. Today I can die for something. My way. My choice. To be honest with you, it'll be a relief. --Jack Bauer, Day Six
( Like A Velvet Glove Cast In Iron: Jack Bauer )
Shout-outs: I couldn't have written this without the Television Without Pity 24 recaps. Thanks also to all the ficcers at 24_fanfic, who each have a unique perspective on the landscape of Jack Bauer's mind.
