Using Photoshop create the following bright and crisp coloring:

Going from this to this: . For Photoshop CS2 - not sure how translatable this is (if you get it to work in another program, let me know! :) Basic to Intermediate difficulty - but I hope I've explained things clearly enough that even a fairly new Photoshop user can figure it out :)

Sometimes I want to put the main focus of my icon way off-centre, either to leave room for text, brushwork, or textures, or just because I think it looks nicer that way. However, when you're working with screencaps, it can often be hard to find a shot with enough space left around the subject to crop it so dramatically. But! You can get around this problem by extending your background...

Glowing Text Tutorial

Thought I share how I do some of my glowing text in some icons and mostly on banners and such:

- Have some good textures in hand that have lot's of detail to it
- I used GIMP but it applies to every program, I'll just be explaining the steps in the GIMP.
- Tutorial looks long but I just go into detail.

Using PSP 9.

Step 01
First, select your image. Crop the image, resize it (if you want), and take your base (original image).

Step 02
Duplicate your base and set it to Soft Light. (100% opacity)

Step 03
Add a 2nd layer (#001A2F) and set it to Exclusion. (50% opacity)

Step 04
Add a 3rd layer (#C8F7FF) and set it to Burn. (50% opacity)

Step 05
Go to Layers >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation/Lightness >> Saturation 40 AND set this layer to Saturation (Legacy)

Step 06
Go to Layers >> New Adjustment Layer >> Color Balance and set it as this:
Midtones: +12, -11, -11
Shadows: +7, -4, -5
Highlights: 0, 0, 0

Step 07
Now add a 4th layer (#001A2F) and set this to Exclusion. (70% opacity)

Step 08
Now, copy your Base, drag it to the top, and set it to Luminance (Legacy).

Step 09
Now go to Layers >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation/Lightness >> Saturation 10 and set it to Saturation (Legacy). Merge all layers. Add text if you want.

Step 10 (optional)
If your result came out to dark, I suggest you do another final step. Go to your base, duplicate it, drag it to the top, and set it to Screen. Set the opacity at whatever level you want. Usually it's between 30-40. ;)

And you're DONE! ^_^

Make in Photoshop Elements 5.0. Translatable.

1. Okay, First take your image and crop it to 100x100pixel

2. Duplicate your base and set it to overlay 100% opacity

3. Make a layer and fill it with #021c3b and set it to Exclusion opacity to 60%

4. Make another layer and fill it with #87c0e7 and set it to softlight 50%

5. Make another layer and fill it with #112168 and set it to exlusion 10%

6. Duplicate you base Set it to Screen. You can tweak the opacity to 50%

7. Create a Brightness/Contrast layer (Layer --> Adjustment Layer --> Brightness Contrast) and set your brightness to -11 and contrast to +17%

8. Add a Hue/Saturation layer (Layer --> New Adjustment Layer --> Hue/Saturation) and set the Saturation to +20 and thats it =)
