Challenge #2

crystal clear

The challenge this week is to make an icon that's clear with no use of texture at all. That also means no smoky textures, grainy textures or light textures, brushes, etc. You'll have to rely on a good cap/image choice and your composition skills and ability to convey emotion in an icon without the use of textures. You can use part of the original image itself for effect, here's an example. Hopefully it's really challenging I know it will be for me. If you have any questions just ask :)

so... does this mean we can't use brushes and stuff? Personally, I never use textures, but I think my icons kind of look like I do. So does that mean I can't use brushes to achieve a texture-esque effect, or I just can't use textures, but I can use the brushes?

nope, no brushes either. It's anything that gives a texture effect that's not originally from the cap, like the second example looks like there's texture, but it's because the cap already has a bit of the effect itself. Idk if I explained it right, I hope that answers your question.

yeah, it does. The second example confused me, because it looks like they've added the bits around the edges. So, just to make sure, even a simple round soft brush can't be used, yeah? How about using the smudging, dodging and burning tools?

Sorry, about the pestering questions, I just want to make sure I do this right :P

smudging is fine, you can use part of the original image for effect.

I can't wait to see your entry :D

:P me too. I don't know what the hell I'm gonna do. I love my blobby brushing. Usually my icons are 90% brush...

:) I just wanted to see if something like these would be acceptable, because I used a radial gradient...

Nevermind though, I'm happy with my submissions :)
