iconchat, where iconists and icon graphic makers alike can come together to talk icons or get to know one another a bit better. If you enjoy making icons and graphics, you're welcome to join in and perhaps have some fun. :) Please remember to carefully read the rules/guidelines that are listed below. By joining, it will automatically be assumed that you have read, understood, and agreed to what we have set out to enforce for this community.
What you can find here are discussions related to icon making, graphic techniques, or just chatting about the general icon community as a whole. If you have a trend you'd like to talk about, go ahead and blurt it out. Something you noticed about icon making or have a question you're itching to ask and get input/advice from other icon makers? Cure your itch and ask! Discovered something new and cool, whether a technique or whatever else? Share the wisdom, love! Don't want to spam your personal FL with posts about your iconing thoughts, but can't help it because you're obsessed with iconing? Well, post 'em here. ;) You can even talk about icon making habits, favorites, etc. ^^
BUT! 'tis the fine details coming...
While you're more than welcome to talk about things that are bothering you, please note that this isn't a "rant" community. For that,iconrants would be a better place to satisfy your super ranting needs. And while discussing techniques or sharing something you've recently learned is greatly welcome, this isn't the place for you to post tutorials for your icons. Nor is this the place to ask questions like "How do I anti-alias my text?", etc. For those, I suggest icon_tutorial. And finally, this is definitely not the place to be posting your icons to share. There are gazillions of communities where you can do that, but this one is not it.
So what kind of purpose does this community serve, exactly? In simplest terms, we're the middle ground- something akin to a hangout place for those who share a common interest in icons and graphics. I constantly hear people say how it's hard getting to know other iconists, how unfriendly the whole icon community seem to be, and just how people wish they could talk about icon stuff with other iconists. Well, now there's such a place. ;) There are communities for fans of all kinds of fandoms- and this one is for the icon "fandom" so to speak.
The Basic Rules
1. Don't be an ass, don't purposely cause drama, and don't flame or attack other members. There's enough drama and hostility in the icon community as it is- don't bring that here too. It will not be tolerated.
2. Your post should have something to do with icons, icons related graphics, or the general icon community. That's the whole purpose of this place, isn't it? And please remember the things that were mentioned at the intro above- in regards to what this community is not geared towards. These irrelevant or inappropriate posts will be deleted with a warning.
3. This isn't a pimping community- so please do those elsewhere. These types of posts will be promptly deleted. As a side note, this community also understands that pimping can be useful sometimes. So if you have an advertisement to make, please refer to this post for more info on how to get your pimp out to the community.
4. Please use an LJ-cut if your post is especially long or if it contains large/many images.
5. Please friends-lock any post that may contain potential sensitive issues. Additionally, if you're posting graphics/icons by makers other than yourself for any type of discussion, it must be friends-locked- regardless of whether it's a positive or negative post.
6. Do not direct link or hotlink to any images you may post that aren't yours. Any post or comment found to be hotlinking will be given a chance to delete/edit their hotlinked images within 24 hours after warning has been sent out by one of the mods. After that, we will automatically delete it without further notice.
7. Don't take your issues, problems, questions, etc. to another member's personal journal and hassle them there. That's invading their personal space and it will not be tolerated.
8. Do NOT link to someone's personal journal or personal icon community-- mainly in any potentially controversial or slightest negative post. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you need to discuss about a post in someone else's personal space, please ask that people get the link from you via email, etc. You're allowed to link to general (non-personal) communities though. As an after note, if you're linking to other people's journal in a positive note- please just friends-lock it for extra safety precautions.
8a. Posts that purely contain hotlinking notifications will generally not be allowed. For that, you might want to tryhotlinkers. If you're making a post to talk about hotlinkers in general- then that's fine. You may not, however, link or list anyone on LJ that's hotlinking. Yes, we're all very angry about hotlinkers- but the last thing we need is to cause an uproar with the said hotlinker...and consequently putting the community in trouble with LJAbuse. If you must talk about a hotlinking incident, please ask that people email you or contact you off the community for the link. Do NOT post it at the community.
Breaking of these rules will be dealt with by the moderators on a case-by-case basis. Certain rules are of course treated more seriously (such as flaming), and those will be dealt with more severely.
