Welcome!

Thank you for taking interest in icon_concrit! The purpose of this community is to have a place where icon makers of all stages (newbies to veteran pros) can come and request a polite critique of their work. You're welcome to join only to critique; you don't have to be critiqued in order to critique others, though I'd hope you'd at least put yourself up ONCE. :) If you're having problems with members here, feel free to let me know publically by commenting on the Obligatory Welcome Post or privately by sending an email to kellzilla @ livejournal.com.

What We Are!

If you aren't sure whether your icon is up to par, or you'd like to see how you could have done something different, this is the place to get some CONSTRUCTIVE responses about what, subjectively of course, other people like and dislike about your icon(s). Here you can post between one and ten icons at a time and request people's responses. You may not get responses for each of the icons, but I'm hoping you get enough responses to fuel your creativity for another stretch of time.

If you are making concrits, please keep your responses polite and flame-free. I will not hesitate to delete rude comments on sight, without even notifying the offender. Each offense will go down in a private post on my personal journal, and after three such offenses, you will be banned from the community. I am not going to be flexible on this - this place is for CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, so please leave the flaming to the flaming communities.

Further on making concrits, non-member comments are screened by default, so if you want your critiques to show up right away, please join the community. Only the maintainer and the original poster can unscreen comments, which may cause considerable delay between you making the comment and the general public able to view it.

Also, if you have something negative to say, I want you to make at least one positive critique as well. I would PREFER a 1:1 ratio, one positive for every negative crit, but I understand sometimes you simply don't like an icon and it's hard to find one thing good. On the same note, don't post only positive critiques: your comment should contain at least one negative crit, and at least one positive crit.

Please be as descriptive as possible, though I understand that not everyone comes from an art background, so your technical jargon doesn't have to be perfect. In the same vein, since not everyone comes from an art background, if you do post technical jargon, please also say it in layman's terms, so everyone can understand it.

What We're Not!

This place is NOT for "Omg, pretty!" type non-critique comments.
This place is NOT for flaming, rude, etc., unconstructive critiques.
This place is NOT for gradients, textures, brushes, bases, or any other icon resource.
This place is NOT for requesting icons to be made.
This place is NOT for taking requests to make icons for people.
This place is NOT for making posts offering icons to the general public to take.
And last but certainly not least,
This place is NOT for taking the icons that are posted. (Please go to the poster's icon space and say you're taking their icons there, instead of here.) Not all icons that are posted here are necessarily available for nabbing!

Rules!

You can find all of the rules at the Obligatory Rules Post. Please make sure you take note of them before posting because I WILL delete posts/comments that don't conform, if you take an inordinately long time to fix whatever we requested to be fixed.
