IBARW

RACE AND RACISM

The following links are meant as more of a starting point; I keep rereading them, attempt to balance out section and then realize that I'm missing so many areas. The biases tend toward American black and Asian issues, feminism and fandom, as that is apparently what I have delicioused in the past. That, by the way, is not an excuse, but a note that any gaping holes are my own fault.

Colonialism and Imperialism

Intersectionality

Desperately need more links, particularly addressing classism, heterosexism and ablism.

Discourse on Racism

Cultural Appropriation

Allies

Affirmative Action

White Privilege

Color Blindness

Recommended Reading Lists

Recommended Blogs

Desperately need more blogs focusing on Latinos, American Indians, First Nations, indigenous Australians, South Asians, Middle Easterners, and pretty much everything international. ETA: Have some more now, but I'll keep looking for even more.

FANDOM AND RACE

Currently "fandom" refers to SF/F fandom and media fandom, largely because those are the two groups I have visibility into. But if anyone has any other links, please let me know and I will add them!

I think Rydra's got links to the recent HP debate over "miscegenation," the debates about Martha in Dr. Who, the debates about COC in fic in Stargate Atlantis, and the Great Cultural Appriation Debate of DOOM, among many others.

There are a couple of areas - like the Great Cultural Appropriation Debate of DOOM and last year's IBARW - where I've linked to someone else's link round-up, rather than trying to cover things myself.

But yes, I've been busting my fingers over the last few days getting the "miscegenation" links added ...

I think given the amount you have, this is not a problem! ;) I saw your updated link list (I think the last time I was there was a few months ago) and sort of goggled at how it had grown.

At one point during the HP debate, it got to the stage where I basically had a window open with the linkspam set to "Edit Entry" any time I was online *g*.

These are really great. I would add a couple of more links to this page, if you've got room.

[info]harriet_spy's One thing fandom needs to stop saying. Forever. on not calling discussions of race and racism tedious, and:

What Kind of Card is Race? by Tim Wise, debunking the idea that 'playing the race card' has any positive benefit for People of Color/Black & Ethnic Minorities (OMG, I need a macro.)

Thank you, these are great.

Although I'm noticing most of the links I was gonna post this week have already been posted here. :o I'll have to dig up a few new ones!

Oops! Hey, I'd love to see your annotations if you wanted ;). I suspect a smaller list may help some people intimidated by the size of this one.

Good point about smaller lists. I am going to break mine up into two posts, one for LJ links and one for blog links. Maybe that'll help?

Annotations? I haven't actually written anything yet. (: I tend to compose right in the LJ posting window. And occasionally live to regret it.

OMG me too. Which is why anyone online at 3 in the morning CA time would have seen all the IBARW entries changing about a zillion times while I edited ;).

The link to "I CARE - Crosspoint Anti Racism" (under Race & Racism) should be this one: http://www.magenta.nl/crosspoint/index.html (the other points to the UK sub-page). Interesting links, thank you!

Way late, but thank you so much for this list. I'm trying to be a better ally, both as a person and as a writer, so resources like these are always helpful.

I know this is really late, but thank you for these posts. I'm trying to educate myself more and get more involved off-line so these really help.
