Garry Oak, (Quercus garryana) Klickitat Canyon, Klickitat County Washington I made this image north and upriver from the Columbia River Gorge on the drier side of the Cascade Range. I enjoy visiting the Garry oak and Ponderosa Pine forests and each visit, I spend a few days finding new photographic subjects.
Here on the Kitsap Peninsula in Puget Sound, we have very few oak trees and I can only think of one location where they are found. It's called the Oak Patch and has only a few dozen scraggly-looking Garry Oaks. I lived my first twenty years in western Pennsylvania, and took seeing the grand Red Oaks and White Oaks for granted, but now, each sighting is a treat and I value these glimpses.
See more Garry Oak images in my online archive here...

Junction of Orchard and Scotts, Singapore
This was a photo of our latest temple of Mammon. I'd not noted the large tree, intent on capturing the building. I only saw the tree as I reviewed photos taken that day. This tree has been at this junction for many years. We take shelter under it from the burning equatorial sun, the sudden drizzles, walk in its cool shade, but we hardly spare a thought for it and in my case I don't even notice it most of the time. I am thankful for it and would like to show this important, even if ignored, tree to all in this community.
