The description of Dwellers is pretty clear. Loosely, they look like giant rolling dumbells with eyes and grasping limbs...

Because it's SCI-FI!

It's still got to be better than the UK paperback cover, where they decided that the NASA photograph of Jupiter and IO was science fictional enough, and photoshopped in stars over the top...

Memo: preview in future. Wasn't science fictional enough. D'oh.

Aside from the space-squid, I'm curious what the huge gears are supposed to stand for. Although we're probably demanding too much logic out of sci-fi book covers :)

It's quite a way from a real-ish picture of Jupiter to space squid and cogwheels.

i have to mention... we just finished the first issue of a new SF 'zine titled Space Squid (spacesquid.com). The title comes from a Margaret Atwood quote in which she dismisses SF as "talking squid in space."

Feel the power of the Atwood meme. Email us at the site if you'd like us to contribute any art from our cover. :)
