haven't seen anyone mention this:
2008 Sofia Riesling.
It's my favorite. Fairly sweet, and the scent is intoxicating.

That makes this the 3rd Sofia bottle, following the Sofia Rose & Blanc de Blancs.

I remembered hearing something about her contribution to the movie but I couldn't remember what and I'd been wanting to see Broken English for a while so I finally picked it up. Too cutes. |

| First still from SOMEWHERE |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|01:12 am] |
SOMEWHERE Official Synopsis: Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a bad-boy A-List actor stumbling through a life of excess while living at Hollywood’s legendary Chateau Marmont Hotel. His days are a haze of drinks, girls, fast cars and fawning fans. Cocooned in this celebrity-induced artificial world, Johnny has lost all sense of his true self. Until, that is, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) unexpectedly shows up and unwittingly begins to anchor him. Johnny’s fragile connection to real life slowly revives in her presence. So when the time comes fro Cleo to leave, his sense of loss is palpable, but the gift of hope she has also brought him leads to a beautiful, poetic denouement imbued with all of Coppola’s remarkable powers to conjure mood and atmosphere.

| Hello you guys! |
[Nov. 9th, 2009|08:54 pm] |
|
It's always nice to come back to this lovely little spot. :) I was wondering - does somebody know what stills camera (or cameras?) Sofia was using at the time of the Virgin Suicides? I mean all the promotional stills, the "behind the scenes" stills etc., you probably know what I'm talking about. One camera looks a bit like the Mamiya 7, but I'm really not sure... can somebody please help me with that? Thanks a lot!

Sofia was on "The Girls Next Door" last night! She was so sweet and polite! She watched the girls go through their routine and also asked which girl would be comfortable smacking Stephen Dorff when he gets them mixed up and grabs the wrong twin!

| August Coppola (brother to Francis Ford and father to Nicolas) Passes Away at 75 |
[Nov. 2nd, 2009|08:51 pm] |

Often described as flamboyant and eccentric, Coppola taught comparative literature at Cal State Long Beach in the 1960s and '70s and served as a trustee of the California State University system before moving to San Francisco State in 1984. He became dean of the School of Creative Arts there and was also professor of cinema until 1992. In 1991, instead of leading a groundbreaking for a planned addition to San Francisco State's creative arts complex, Coppola hosted a "skybreaking" because, he said: "The idea is to look up, rather than down -- look up to the sky, the clouds, teach young people to dream." "He was one of the most remarkable characters anybody's going to meet," Cage, who changed his name soon after beginning his acting career, said in an interview with Playboy magazine in 1996. "When I was a kid, the other kids were seeing Disney, and he was showing us movies like Fellini's 'Juliet of the Spirits.' This was before video, so he would take us to the art-house cinemas. I saw 'Citizen Kane,' and that's when I discovered Max Schreck and Nosferatu and Dr. Caligari, which gave me nightmares." Coppola was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Hartford, Conn., the oldest child of Carmine Coppola, a composer and classically trained flutist, and his wife, Italia, a lyricist. The family moved often, depending on where Carmine's work took them, but the children were close and enjoyed going to movies together and reading books. "He was a great older brother to me and always looked out for me," Francis Coppola, the award-winning director of "The Godfather" trilogy and "Apocalypse Now," said in an interview with the cinema journal Film Comment, "but in addition, he did very well in school and received many awards for writing and other things, and he was like the star of the family and I did most of what I did to imitate him." August Coppola earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from UCLA, a master's in English from Hofstra University and a doctorate in comparative literature and interdisciplinary studies from Occidental College, then began teaching at Cal State Long Beach. He and his wife, dancer Joy Vogelsang, had three sons, Christopher, Marc and Nicolas, before divorcing. Christopher became a film director and Marc a disc jockey. In addition to his brother, sister and sons, Coppola's survivors include six grandchildren. As an executive with his brother's American Zoetrope film studio, Coppola was involved in the revival of Abel Gance's 1927 silent film "Napoleon." He also helped create the Tactile Dome, an interactive sensory exhibit at the Palace of Fine Arts' Exploratorium in San Francisco. Coppola moved to Savannah, Ga., in the mid-'90s. "Being active and relatively well-known in San Francisco, I needed to go to a place where I could hole up and write," he told the San Francisco Chronicle in 1999. "To write, you can't be interrupted," he said. "It throws you off. It's like trying to make love and people keep walking in on you."

The Cool Girls A cult designer and film director share the love Built by Wendy designer Wendy Mullin and filmmaker Sofia Coppola were destined to be friends. In the early ’90s, they both helped Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon stage an impromptu runway show featuring a teenage Chloë Sevigny outside Marc Jacobs’ venue. (Coppola did the pamphlets.) A few years later, the director rented an apartment above Mullin’s NoLIta shop. Today, the two, along with fashion photographer Melodie McDaniel, vacation in the south of France together and regularly share in each other’s work. Example? Elle Fanning, the star of Coppola’s upcoming Somewhere (and Dakota’s little sis), spends the better part of the film wearing Mullin’s spring ’09 striped tankdress. “My stuff is really reality-based,” says the designer, whose easy-to-wear silhouettes and genuinely ironic prints are also a favorite of Zooey Deschanel and Rashida Jones. “I guess I somehow appeal to people who have a dark sense of humor.”

How cool is it that 10 years later The Virgin Suicides is still being referenced and influencing fashion?!?
NEW YORK, September 15, 2009"I always have a lot of references," Mulberry creative director Emma Hill said backstage after round two of the label's four mini-shows.. For Spring, her list included abandoned fairgrounds, Sofia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides, refracted light, and Tim Walker photographs. Hill set her scene just right with a runway that wound around a spooky-sweet circle of carousel horses, with the soundtrack of Air's "Highschool Lover" putting all present into a dreamy fashion trance. That hazy element of Hill's vision was a boon to the collection, keeping its sweet touches of big bows and puffed sleeves from becoming saccharine. The look was Coppola's Lisbon sisters crossed with your cool seventies babysitter, the one with the groovy fringed leather bag. She would have been thrilled to see the swingy strings on the stacked-heel moccasin booties that ended up being an integral part of the postshow chatter. There was fringe on bags, too, but the best was a simple, double-buckled messenger named the Alexa after New York's newest fashion obsession, Ms. Chung. Also of note was Hill's recasting of the label's signature leather jackets, the biker and the poacher. Now in washed soft hues, they're the kind of thing you want to wear every day. Now that's a fashion dream.

Does anyone know why Ross Katz, KK Barrett or Lance Accord are not a part of the production of Somewhere? It's not a big issue, I was just curious... i think I'm going to miss seeing their work on screen. Especially Lance.

I just ran into Sofia in SoHo in New York! She was pushing baby Romy in a stroller while Thomas held an umbrella over them all. I was walking down Mercer Street & they turned in front of me at Mercer & Broome Street. When they were about to go into their building I managed to say a few things to Sofia (like "You're my favourite director!") & she was so nice! One man did a double take when he saw them but nobody else seemed to really notice. So amazing! |

From my understanding of the translation Sofia has taken great inspiration from Federico Fellini's segment of the 1968 film Histoires Extraordinaires (it's a three segment movie) called "Toby Dammit" .
Can an Italian speaker please help with translation? Thanks a million! My babelfish translation in blue!
