Where to buy
I'm looking for several pieces of furniture. I'm not necessarily wanting to purchase heirloom quality but I do want it to be nice. I've looked at Graves Furniture (in Arab), which is where I typically buy from but they don't seem to have what I'm looking for. Thomasville, Stanley, and Drexel are very nice from a quality standpoint but they are a bit more than I need right now. I've also looked at Ashley furniture but their reputation for customer service and quality stinks! While I found several things that I liked there, their sales people were very ill prepared and seemed to lack a general understanding of what it was that they were trying to sell. Walmart and Target offer more what I think of as college furniture, not the quality level I'm hoping to find. Does anyone have any other suggestions of where I can look? I'm wanting to find a place that offers a nice middle ground. I'm willing to travel within about a 45 mile radius of Huntsville to find what I'm looking for. Thanks! Current Mood: happy |

Sleep When You’re Dead – Steamball Part 2!
This Saturday, at Matthews Bar and Grill in downtown Birmingham, will be this month’s version of the south’s hottest Goth/industrial/steam party. “Sleep When You’re Dead’s” theme for this Saturday night is “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” so come in your finest fairy wings, cloven hooves or with your faun’s tail in hand and enjoy the mayhem and fun. Festivities start at 9p & the shows usually get underway at 10p. ( [15 images behind the cut] ) Current Music: Gogol Bordello - Your Country! |

Aside from the usual suspects (Hobby Lobby, Hancocks, Michaels, etc) are there any shops where you can buy upholstery fabric? Preferably good quality at a reasonable (or bargain) price? I am looking to recover a couch so I will need 10-15 yards. Current Mood: hopeful |

MODEL PHOTOGRAPHY: Available to shoot today
Hey gang, I know it's very very short notice, but my model for today's shoot had to reschedule at the last moment. I've got a site in Huntsville if anyone wants to put on goth, steampunk, horror, fetish or medical costume and come pose. This is a strictly TF-CD offer unless I know you. My drop dead time to commit to this is noon (my time to decide), then I will go find ways to amuse myself (chores and cleaning most likely). Message me here and/or jjmaccrimmon -at- gmail -dot- com. Cheers! Current Mood: determinedCurrent Music: Collide - Silently Creeping |

Posey Peep Show (Part 2)
Here’s some further shots of the The Posey Peep Show from January 2009. The Posey’s version of burlesque is a mix of story, cabaret and traditional striptease with a twist of the absurd. The troupe will be traveling to New York City in a few weeks (late June) to stage a series of performances in the Big Apple. Dates are listed on their MySpace page. ( Showtime! Posey Peep Show (Part 1)
I'm bad.. Back in January, I had the pleasure of attending Huntsville's self described "Absurdist Burlesque" troupe. Due to a backlog of photos and personal mayhem, I set aside the photos I took till April. That was when I finally got my other computer set up to write files to CD (again). I was going to give "Clementine" (the head of the troupe) a set of the unedited photos and be done with it. Then I forgot to take the CD-r with me to Lowe Mill for another month or so. Given this, I decided to do a complete, professional edit to the set and offer the troupe a set of high quality pics to make up for the delay. Since they do a themed show, here's the results for the old west based show "Wanted." ( Showtime! [22 images behind the cut] ) Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Delirum - Silence |

Items For Sale
Hello, good peoples. I have a few items that are going up on eBay sometime this evening. I figured I'd give the good people here a chance to make me a reasonable offer and avoid shipping charges first. EDIT: There are currently offers on the Blackjack and the Zune. No money has changed hands, so I'm not striking them out, yet. However, I just wanted to give a fair heads up on those items. 1) AT&T HTC Fuze (Black) - This item is brand spanking new. The only reason the seal on the box is even broken was so I could verify the box contents. 2) AT&T Samsung Propel Pro (Silver) - This item has been slightly and lovingly used. I was part of an AT&T scavenger hunt that used the phone. I used the phone for about 2 hours, and won the exact phone that I used as the prize. As such, I can personally attest the the phone works well. 3) AT&T Blackjack II (Red) - This item is somewhere in that weird area of unused, but not new. I was standing in the right place at the right time when the AT&T rep released that they couldn't sell the demo units, so she gave it to me. It was plugged in and manhandled for a week, but it's never been owned or used. 4) 30GB Microsoft Zune (Black) - I love this device. I'm only selling it because I recently upgraded to one of the new 120GB models. I have babied this thing for 2 years now, and can assure you that it is in mint condition. If you ask nicely, I may even forget to wipe the full hard drive of un-drm'ed music from the drive . . . I have prices in mind for the auction reserve and buy it now prices for eBay. However, I'm not listing them here because I'll take just about any reasonable offer if it mean I don't have to deal with eBay . . . Cross posted to huntsville, uah and personal journal. |

Doctor suggestions
I just moved to Madison from the Jones Valley area and I'm looking for a new doctor. I live off Sullivan / Wall Triana now and the nearly 40 minute drive to my current doctor is too much. Can anyone suggest a good general practice doctor, preferably female, in the area? |

Recruiting Local Pokemon Fans! ^.^
Greetings, fellow North Alabamians! =D My name is Kath; I'm sixteen and currently living in Athens. I'm looking to organize a Huntsville-based group for older fans and supporters of the Pokemon franchise, including the games, TCG, and anime. I've always been surprised by the Huntsville area's general enthusiasm for the various aspects of Pokemon, from the clubs held at bookstores early on to (more recently) Athens' own TCG league, hosted by the now-defunct Valhalla Cards and Comics. With the recent release of Platinum and the phenomenon enjoying a bit of revival, I thought it would be effective to "seize the moment" by bringing North Alabama's resident fans together to meet one another and recruit new fans. I thought it might be ideal for meetings to be held twice a month at the same date and time (for example, at 5:00 p.m. on the first and third Fridays each month). Meetings could possibly take place in the Fountain shopping center on North Memorial Parkway (with Toys 'R' Us and Books-A-Million, both Poke-friendly venues) and in members' homes, though I'm open to other suggestions. Some of the activities I have in mind for us to do include wi-fi battles and such, merchandise swaps, art exchanges, karaoke and Wii nights, movie viewings, and holiday events. If there's enough interest, maybe we could restart the local TCG league and host it at the library. Please reply or PM me with any and all feedback. I'm really hoping to make this group a success and keep the spirit of Pokemon alive in and around Huntsville! ^_~ |

a bit early? perhaps...
but early bird, worm...yadda yadda. the past fgew years i have met with nothing but utter failure in my attempts to celebrate halloween. its damn hard to find anything to do for that holiday, as an adult, that doesnt involve bar cruising. so last year i decided i would volenteer to help with the whatever haunted house i could find. theres 1 or 2 around town, and scaring the fecelmatter out of small children sounds like a dandy way to celebrate halloween. so anyone know who i should contact to sign up for that? |

EDIT: Thanks for the advice guys, it was really helpful. He already hasn't paid for my sister's private school like he's supposed to, so they're going back to divorce court eventually anyway. I filled out the FAFSA and I'm looking into other options, and I think it'll get sorted out in my favor, it just might take a while. Current Mood: frustrated |

Tea?
Is there anywhere in town that is good for buying various types of nice tea? Not loose tea, but in teabags? We want to get some nice varieties as part of a mother's day gift. Anything local or fair trade would be a plus but as long as it's really tasty and not a big box label I'd be thrilled. (Also, seriously NO ONE has a contractor they like? Would I be better off asking who to avoid?) Current Mood: hopeful |

Brahms Requiem at First Baptist Church “The Brahms Requiem” will be presented this Sunday afternoon, May 3 at 5:00 PM in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Huntsville (600 Governors Drive). A chorus of over 150 voices, full orchestra, and guest soloists Christie Weber and Van-Arc Wright will perform this masterwork of the choral/orchestral repertoire as a part of the church’s Bicentennial Celebration (1809-2009).
Johannes Brahms composed Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem) as a message of comfort, assurance and hope for all humankind. Its extraordinary beauty continues to inspire listeners and performers around the world. This is a magnificent, difficult work that is not often performed anywhere, and has not been performed locally in decades. There is no other work on the program, and it's just over an hour in length.
You are warmly invited to attend. There is no admission charged, nor will an offering be collected. Current Music: Brahms Requiem |
