I'm re-reading Reconciliation for the umpteenth time because it's definitely one of my Top Five All-Time Favorite AUs in Any Fandom Ever and I know [info]wordsmithslash abandoned it, but I'm wondering if anybody here is in touch with her. She hasn't updated her LJ since in nearly two years, and it doesn't look like she's updated her personal website in a long time either. I'm just hoping she's okay. And that she is indeed a she. Because I'll really feel like a moron if she's a he.

Updates

  • Jun. 7th, 2009 at 4:03 PM
Hi everyone! Just a quick update. I am still working on chapter 40 of TCJ, but it's one of five or six writing projects vying for my attention at the moment.

I also just wanted to remind everyone that now that Zero at the Bone is a published work, I will NOT be posting updates related to it here on this community. That includes Jane Seville's blog entries, the web stories I'm writing as follow ups to the book, or info about the sequel.

If you wish to be kept in the loop regarding Zero and its subsequent works, you should either check Jane Seville's website regularly (www.janesevillebooks.com) or sign up for the Google Group, which is a notifications-only list, for the most part.

Zero is now available!

  • Apr. 6th, 2009 at 10:20 AM
Well, friends and neighbors, today's the day!

"Zero at the Bone" is now available for purchase.

It's available in paperback for $17.99 or eBook for $6.99. Also, the first 30 copies sold come with an author signature.

I don't think I mentioned this here before, but I'm also offering 11 x 17 high-quality giclee prints of the cover art. I had the first batch printed last week and they look gorgeous! There's a link for that at the Jane Seville Books website. There's also a link on the site to my CafePress store where there are fun items. Kind of an experiment I'm running.

Some of you have read "Zero" and some have not. Be advised that it does contain frank depictions of men having sex. Not gratuitously, it isn't porn or anything, but if it were on HBO it'd definitely be rated TV-MA for strong sexual content. The marketplace for gay fiction frankly expects a certain amount of the sexy time, just like romance novel readers expect their fair share of bodice-ripping. And I find that sex scenes can do a lot of heavy lifting in terms of character and relationship development, which is how I try to use them.

However, I will NOT be offended if you either a) don't buy it, b) buy it and don't read it or c) buy it, read it but skip those parts. :-)

ETA: I've been asked by a few people if it's better for me to buy from Dreamspinner or to buy from Amazon. I'm encouraging everyone to buy direct from Dreamspinner if they can. First of all, the Amazon link isn't active yet and likely won't be for at least a few days. Second, my publisher (and therefore me) make more money from direct sales because the book distributor doesn't take a cut. Dreamspinner does ship worldwide, too.

Yay! Thanks everyone, for your support and good wishes! It's exciting!

Drum roll please...

Introducing the brand-spanking-new online home of Jane Seville Books!

Jane Seville Books

Have a look around, let me know what you think! The Web Stories section won't be active until the book's actually available.

Many thanks to Brian the Art Guy, who designed and built the site because he is made of awesome.

Taking down "Zero"

  • Mar. 21st, 2009 at 10:49 AM
I know I said months ago that I was taking Zero down and well...you may have noticed I never got around to actually doing it.

Well, I am now, since the published version is coming out in two weeks. So I'll give you another week to save chapters if anyone still needs it. Final warning! Last call! You don't have to go home but you can't stay here!

Also, please don't forget to subscribe to the Jane Seville Books email list. This is where I'm going to be sending most of the updates and news about the book and its release and any links or reviews. And merchandise (yes, you heard that right, Zero merchandise). Not to mention news about the sequel, the Web-only short story content that's going to be happening on Jane Seville's website, and any other stories I write that aren't Zero related.

The list only has about 50 members so far and there are like a thousand of you. Chop chop.

Here, I'll make it super easy.

Pseudonyms

  • Mar. 14th, 2009 at 12:42 PM
Hey everybody. A general note, please.

Yesterday I posted about Jane Seville's blog and mailing list. I'm pleased to see people signing up for the list and viewing the blog.

But please, PLEASE refrain from making comments that reference my other fanfiction by title or fandom. Jane did not write HI or TCJ or the fanfiction version of Zero. I just had to delete a comment that specifically referenced Two Crows Joy (WHICH I AM STILL GOING TO FINISH). I don't care if everyone knows that Jane is a pen name, in fact I'm writing her blog specifically from that viewpoint, and there will inevitably be a way to connect her to me, but I need to at least nod my head in the direction of separation.

If you want to reference my other writing in a nonspecific, general way that's fine. Just please don't mention Brokeback fanfiction or a specific story. Thanks!

Jane Seville online!

  • Mar. 13th, 2009 at 10:33 AM
Hey guys...as the April 6th release date of "Zero at the Bone" approacheth, I'm beginning to go live with my several-pronged web presence. I wanted to start linking people to them now.

First, the Jane Seville Books mailing list (which is a Google group). This isn't a discussion list (although it could be, if there's interest) but an announcements list for interested readers to be updated about changes on the website and such.

The volume ought to be very low, and I'd say if you do nothing else, subscribe to this list.

Jane Seville Books Google Group

Second, Jane's blog. This will be linked from the website and all that but it's ready to go now.

Jane Seville's Blog

Third, the website, which isn't live yet. I hope to have that up and running by the end of the month. But see, if you're on the mailing list, you'll get a notification when it is!

Human Interest Chapters

  • Mar. 2nd, 2009 at 2:12 PM
Hey Lori

I have a problem, that can hopefully be resolved with ease.  I have been telling a friend of mine about your Human Interest/Two Crows Joy story/world.  I have tried to get the human interest tag to come up with her new account, but it cannot be found.  Is there a way for her to get to the Human Interest story?

Thanks

Cabkid

Updates

Hello all! A couple of updates.

1. I've said this on DCF, but thought I ought to post it here as well. At this time, there are no plans to continue the Zero universe. At one time I had thought to write a sequel, and I'm not ruling it out completely, but please don't expect further stories featuring these characters. I'm hoping to have some news regarding this soon, but for now, that's all I can say.

2. I will finish TCJ, but it may be slow in coming.

3. Happy news! Jenna, one of our most illustrious and beloved fanfic authors (she wrote the fandom classic "Somebody New," which is sadly no longer available) has had a short story published with Dreamspinner Press, a publisher of m/m erotic stories. Her story is part of a holiday anthology, but she only gets royalties if you buy her story by itself. Here is the link:

http://dreamspinnerpress.3dcartstores.com/search.asp?keyword=Gifts+of+the+season&search=GO

Uh...don't be put off by the beefcake-y cover. :-) The story is only $2.99 and well worth it. The version you probably want is the last one, the Adobe PDF eBook.

So support BBM writers in the publishing industry! Clickie clickie! Jenna will thank you for it.

Two Crows Joy withdrawals!

  • Nov. 22nd, 2008 at 7:25 AM
Hey Lori

I was wondering if you had a time line for when you will be posting new entry in your FABOLICIOUS story Two Crows Joy.  I have been wondering what has been going on with my favorite cowboys. No rush, I don't want to hinder the creative process.  Just curious is all.

Keep us posted

TCJ neighborhood

  • Aug. 11th, 2008 at 5:43 PM
Hey, TCJ fans! I got this idea after reading the latest ZATB update and seeing that MadLori had posted pictures of Jack and D's neighborhood at the end of the chapter. So, I thought, "wonder what the TCJ ranch or town would look like as a photograph?" I know people have made fanart for the subject, but it might put a little more in perspective on the thought. I guess you could just leave a link at the end of a comment, or something. :)

Two Crows Joy, Chapter 38

  • Jun. 15th, 2008 at 6:08 PM
Two Crows Joy
a "Brokeback Mountain" fanfiction by Mad Lori

Prologue -- Chapter 1 -- Chapter 2 -- Chapter 3 -- Chapter 4 -- Chapter 5 -- Chapter 6 -- Chapter 7 -- Chapter 8 -- Chapter 9 -- Chapter 10 -- Chapter 11 -- Chapter 12 -- Chapter 13 -- Chapter 14 -- Chapter 15 -- Chapter 16 -- Chapter 17 -- Chapter 18 -- Chapter 19 -- Chapter 20 -- Chapter 21 -- Chapter 22 -- Chapter 23 -- Chapter 24 -- Chapter 25 -- Chapter 26 -- Chapter 27 -- Chapter 28 -- Chapter 29 -- Chapter 30 -- Chapter 31 -- Chapter 32 -- Chapter 33 -- Chapter 34 -- Chapter 35 -- Chapter 36 -- Chapter 37

Author’s Note: And here it is, at long last! The continuation of Two Crows Joy! I heartily thank each and every one of you for your patience and for allowing me to put this story on hiatus while I finished Zero at the Bone. Now the Zero readers have their turn to wait for their sequel while TCJ is concluded.

A brief recap in case you haven’t had time or inclination to re-read: After a Christmas featuring a visit from Alma and a memorable kiss under mistletoe at Grant’s party, Jack was called to Wyoming to help care for his sick mother and persuade his stubborn father to move south away from the Twist family ranch. In this endeavor he found an unlikely ally in Alma, who struck up a friendship with Grace Twist, now residing in an apartment house for seniors. Meanwhile, the Farmingdale ranch became the target for some homophobic attacks, culminating in an attempt at arson foiled by Lizzie and sheriff Walter while Ennis had gone to Wyoming to spend some time with Jack. Upon Ennis’s return, he was surprised by a visit from his long-lost brother KE, now calling himself Ken. They got along fine until Ken accidentally discovered the truth about Ennis’s relationship before he could be told by Ennis. After a drinking binge, Ken attacked Ennis with a fireplace poker. It was a close thing, but Ennis recovered with Jack at his side, rushed back home from Wyoming and leaving Alma to look after his mother. In the most recent chapter, Ennis returned home where everyone found it hard to balance his need for assistance with his reluctance to accept it, but after a tense evening Jack and Ennis were finally able to sleep in each other’s arms, to their relief.

On with the story!

Question for you???

Will Two Crows Joy ever return?

The Coming Storm, Ch. 3

  • Mar. 30th, 2008 at 11:09 PM
Story: The Coming Storm, Ch. 3
Pairing: Jack/Ennis, AU
Disclaimer: Characters belong to Annie Proulx. Farmingdale universe/ characters curtsy of Lori Summers. “The Coming Storm” is a (fanfic) precursor to the events depicted in “Human Interest” and “Two Crows Joy”.
Rating: R
Summary: (AU) 1980: Bobby Twist, an insecure thirteen-year-old from Texas, reluctantly travels to his father’s up-and-coming Vermont ranch for his annual summer visit. Bobby’s father, an openly gay man living with his partner of four years, is soon forced to navigate the tumultuous terrain of fatherhood while trying to stay true to the man he’s committed his life to.
Feedback: I live for it.

* Note from the author: For those readers who’ve taken an interest in my story, sorry for the wait. This chapter was long (I ended up splitting it in two) and I also had to fix my outline. It seems I made some errors regarding ages and years; the previous chapters have now been amended. Nothing major, except Bobby is now 13 and NOT 15. Thanks so much for the comments and I hope you enjoy this new chapter.

I kinda feel strange posting after the RIP Heath message, I hope it's ok...

Ok, so here is a little fanart for you guys, I hope you'll like it!
This is an humble gift to Lori, who wrote and still writes one of the best BBM fic out there, and it's kind of one vision of our 4 main characters :)
