Who? For now, Fenrir Greyback and Remus Lupin.
What? One weird 'family reunion.'
When? Wednesday night - the full moon.
Why? Because there are many scores to settle, once and for all.

This was it. This was the night he had been looking forward to for weeks. Years, really, if someone were to get technical about things, but it was finally here. He would finally get to face Fenrir Greyback.

Usually Remus Lupin was not a man of conflict, unless it was absolutely necessary. He was also not one to go out of his way to seek out revenge by his own hand, but somehow along the way things had changed for this situation. Too many lines had been crossed, too many lives had been hurt, and Remus saw it upon himself to stop Fenrir Greyback. Not just for him, but for every child he had ever hurt. For Scorpius Malfoy and his family. For Andromeda and for Sirius, for when Fenrir had hurt them back in St Mungos. For his own son.

It was the latter that got to him the most, the one that was helping him get into that mindset he needed for a fight like this. Fenrir had hurt his son. He was one of the reasons why he was still in the infirmary, and adding this to everything else just left Remus furious. Livid, actually, and with that anger pulsing through his veins he set out towards where they had agreed to meet.

He had to win. There was no alternative in his mind.

Prongs and Tonks had come along, in case Fenrir had brought back-up of his own, but they would not interfere as long as the fight stayed how it was supposed to be: One-on-one, wolf against wolf. In fact, they would not even be in plain sight, because this was his fight. This was for him to settle.

As soon as the full moon started to rise, Remus didn't fight the transformation how he usually did. He welcomed it this time, every bit of it; the bones breaking and shifting, the skin stretching, and even the pain. Especially the pain. This was what Fenrir made him go through every month, what he had been living through for so many years. This was what he made many others live through; it was time for him to experience just some of that pain.

Once the change was complete, he let out a long, loud howl to make his presence known and inform Fenrir that he was there and ready.

It was time for Fenrir to meet his pup, as he called him.

It was time for that blasted 'family reunion.'

He had waited.

Fenrir was a patient man, if not accommodating. He was not a being accustomed to obeying any orders, not even the Dark Lord's but he knew something of achieving his ends. Of waiting.

One month. It had almost been one month since he made promise to Remus that he would not attack anyone till this date. It had been a long, hard winter. And he was angry. His fingers ached, his back was coiled, hungry and ready.

He ached.

Fenrir blinked as he approached, catching sight of Prongs and Tonks before blinking once and studying Remus. "To carry home the fallen?" He growled as he squatted a little, eyes blazing. "S'good to see you, pup."

The rage that he started to feel as soon as he heard his voice and caught sight of him was like nothing he had ever experienced. It came very close to what he had felt for Snape and Dolohov just a few weeks past, but this surpassed it.

He welcomed that rage. He let it fuel him. Fenrir had his anger, and Remus had his rage.

All he could see was red, and it was that last word he said that did it. The one that made the beast inside him become unleashed at once and caused him to lunge himself at him for an attack right away.

No talking. No waiting. They had already wasted all this time.

Meet your pup, father.

He hit the ground hard under Remus' attack, and doubling back he rolled. He snarled and jumped forward pinning Remus and going for the neck if he could. Claw reached for throat, stomach, chest anything.

Hate. Fenrir was accustomed to fighting hate, rage, distrust...fear. He had experienced it his entire life. He had used it to his advantage because the role life had given him was simple. Precise.

You will hate. Or you will die.

He could feel the claw making contact with his skin but any pain was lost in him. Rage was a good numbing factor, you see. Add that to adrenaline, and he doubted he'd feel anything for a good long while.

If there was something that Fenrir could say he was teaching his pup was that very lesson. Hate or die.

Hate seemed like the best option.

Swatting at his face with his claws, he used his legs to fight him off. He lunged towards him again as soon as he could free himself, so he could try to bite him; so he could drive the sharp fangs in his throat, or his arm, or anywhere he could land them.

Fenrir howled as the teeth sunk into his shoulder, he growled and jolted painfully, jerking free just long enough to push free and assess his wounds.

His left arm hung limply and he growled.

He doubled around, pulling the weight off his useless arm and diving towards Remus, throwing him down, aiming at the chest.

He would make him suffer before he killed him.

Whatever small sense of accomplishment he had felt when he had seen the damage to his shoulder was quickly knocked out of him. He had tried to keep himself upright to stop him, but the air was quickly knocked out of him with the tackle.

For a moment he just stayed there, sparks of light swimming in his vision as he tried to get himself back to the fight.

No, it can't end like this. So many promises were made, so many things on the line. And if Dora--

The train of thought was interrupted by a sharp pain in his chest and he howled. Animal instincts kicked in then - eat or be eaten and he'd be damned if he landed in the second category again - and he growled as he clawed at him to scramble out of his hold.

Pain.

You can own pain. Or give it.

Hate.

You never understood, that hate was far more powerful then love could ever be. It was thick, all-encompassing and by far more tenacious.

Fenrir continued to growl, and dig into his chest ripping blood and fur and flesh but without use of his left forearm it was lopsided and unbalanced. The first good kick Remus got sent Fenrir doubling back in surprise. He growled and howled once again. Snapping his jaws, at Remus, and backing free.

And for the first time in his remembered life. Fenrir retreated.

And felt fear.

If Remus had been paying attention perhaps he could have capitalized on that point. Perhaps he could have even won then. But Fenrir's attack to his chest left him reeling, and as soon as he was free to stand he retreated back a few steps as well.

It was a sign of weakness, how he limped just in the slightest. It was a sign of weakness, how he almost stumbled down onto the ground for a brief moment.

But he had no way of hiding that, or the way he panted as each breath was a painful reminder of the wounds along his chest.

He just stared at Fenrir, trying to build his strength again before he could strike even if very deep down fear started to grip at him as well.

But Fenrir was paying attention. Even in pain, in hatred, in injury. Fenrir's whole life had been watching and waiting. Wanting. Things he never had, things he could never possess. Because he had been a beast. A monster.

He had gone after their children because they said he would. He was the nightmare they thought him to be. He proved them right every time. He showed them. There was always something to fear, and in war...you can-and will-lose everything.

Fenrir snarled and pounced on Remus, hard. Teeth drove into throat, clenching tight and ripping loose. Fenrir swallowed down the blood hungrily. The rich iron taste was familiar and pleasing.

Everything. He thinks. I take everything. One by one. Pain first.

Then death.

The pouncing and the bite snapped loose memories, and a strong sense of deja vu hit him. In a way it was probably his way of blocking out the strong wave of pain that was surging through his body, but at the moment he felt as if he was back to that night, when he had gotten bitten the first time.

A sort of yelp escaped his throat suddenly, followed by a howl as he tried to fight back the pain and did his best to writhe his way out from under him.

The blood loss was weakening him, however. He knew it probably as well as Fenrir did, but he still kept trying as much as he could.

He was not going to give up, he thought almost desperately. Not now. Not like this.

No. Mercy. No. Thought. No. Humanity. They had driven the humanity out long ago.

This was simple. Want and fulfillment. Need. Revenge. Redress. Fenrir bit hard into Remus shoulder again, snapping bone as he dragged him: teeth shining and bloody.

He dropped him four feet from where they had begun and growled. Fiercely.

Get up. He howled. Get up. I want to see you die on your feet. I want to see you try....and still fail. I want you to see you won't win.

Ever.

The sound of the snapping bone barely registered in him, but the pain made its presence known as strong as ever. There was no doubt that he felt it.

He could feel himself start to lose consciousness, but he refused to give in. Not only because he refused to lose, but because he didn't want Prongs or Tonks to interfere and face Fenrir on a full moon.

This was his fight, he thought stubbornly as he slowly started to stand.

At first he swayed for a moment, the arm where Fenrir had bitten his shoulder hanging limply, but once he was able to see straight again his eyes narrowed as he growled.

With a snarl, and with all the strength he could muster, he lunged towards him again - this time aiming for his neck.

A vein, specifically.

Fangs would try to bite as deeply as possible, but that vein was all he needed. He just hoped he could land on that specific spot.

Fenrir felt the fangs slice into his neck like air. He blinked several times. Not calling out. Making no sound of pain or surprise, or foreknowledge.

Fenrir pulled free, ripping from and tearing his throat as he went.

He tried to howl, before he doubled forward. Snorting he tried to speak, to think. The blood ran black against his neck. He felt the stars burning inside his head.

He turned once more and looked up, where a solid clear moon looked down at him sadly. In all his years, for all it's importance, he couldn't remember ever really seeing it. Strange, he thought idly, for him to see and realize how beautiful it was not. How insignificant he looked against...she had been his whole world. But Fenrir had never seen it till now.

He growled again and tried to walk...

He never knew he died.

Even if the goal of that bite had been to kill him, at the moment everything felt far too surreal as he stared at Fenrir.

Part of him expected him to leap once more; he expected more claws and fangs searching for crucial spots to maim, but there was nothing. Just his own ragged breathing as the adrenaline quickly seemed to disappear into thin air.

As he continued to stare at Fenrir's lifeless form, Remus tried to take a few steps back but his legs refused to cooperate for long and he soon found his way to the ground as well.

The owl could but sit and watch as Remus dealt his bite, and then Fenrir fall down and stop moving at all.

But when Remus fell, she could stay away no more. She swooped down and landed on human feet, running towards him as fast as she could.

Her hands were on his head as soon as she reached him; so many wounds; so much blood... she had seen each of them received... She didn't dare hold him as she longed to.

Her fingers reached for the useless front limb, barely touching.

"Prongs? We need to take him away from here. I think the shoulder's broken, besides all else. Needs healing. Hogwarts..."

She wasn't going to cry seeing him like this. Not while there was stuff to be done. Not till he was properly taken care of. Even if her voice was so very close to breaking.

So hurt. I let him do it...

But.

But he won.

The second she said Hogwarts his ears seemed to perk up, just in the slightest, and he pulled away from her touch as he struggled to stand.

No. No, no Hogwarts, he wanted to say. No.

He couldn't show up like this. He didn't want anyone to see him like this.

But he couldn't get up how he wanted to, so that they wouldn't try to take him back. Instead he did the next best thing and just moved away as much as he could, even if he barely had any strength to move at all.

Since she was touching him, she registered exactly when he moved.

"Not Hogwarts?" Her eyes were on him; whatever she could do to ease the hurt... She knew he needed a healer now...

"I can at least try to heal the bone, but we should get you out of here."

A pause.

"St. Mungo's? Headquarters, there's nobody there, I think?"

Prongs, of course, had been there the whole time. He was standing behind Tonks and Moony, trying not to be too concerned. But he perked up at the 'headquarters' and nudged Tonks gently, nodding. --After a moment, he gave up and changed, looking mildly bewildered.

"Headquarters, yeah. Take him there. I'll tell people what's happened."

No. No, no no no...

Just when he had figured his body couldn't possibly endure more pain, the transformation started soon after. The moon had started to fade as he continued to fight her on that.

He curled into himself as much as he could, his body writhing as bones broke and shifted, skin stretched and adjusted, in what seemed to last an eternity.

As his body returned back to normal, Remus couldn't hold back a sudden strangled scream of pain but it was cut short as he started to cough. The taste of blood in his mouth - Fenrir's or his own he didn't know - caused him to cough even more, but his body couldn't continue with the torture and he soon started to slip into unconsciousness.

"It's over," he breathed out, choked and barely audible as his eyes tried to focus. Tell them it's over. We won one. They deserved to know. One of Voldemort's pets was gone.

But he couldn't continue talking or even stay awake as his body finally gave in to the unconsciousness that he couldn't fight off anymore.

Just a single sob escaped her as Remus screamed. Just one. Then she bit her lip so hard that it bled.

"I... think he needs Poppy. Now. Let's apparate and carry him over, then tell people. Or I can levitate him from the apparition place. I'm..." She took a deep breath. No time to lose. Then held tight against Remus' back (since it was... relatively unwounded!) and held out a hand to James if he wanted them to apparate together.

"Going now."

James took her hand, a little shakily. "Yeah, you -- go on and take him, but I'll apparate with you. Then I'll tell everyone what happened. Poppy'll take care of him." He glanced at Remus, looking worried, and then apparated back to Hogwarts.
