Instead of a chained chair, however, there was a raised stone dais in the center of the pit, on which stood a stone archway that looked so ancient, cracked and crumbling that Harry was amazed the thing was still standing. Unsupported by any surrounding wall, the archway was hung with a tattered black curtain or veil which, despite the complete stillness of the cold surrounding air, was fluttering very slightly as though it had just been touched.

The last Tuesday Photos for April! Wow, has this month flown by or what?
We have yet another brand new quilter this week!
laci_l was coerced convinced to try out paper piecing by her fantabulous sister,
lezlishae. Yay and welcome!
I have been accused of being a crafts enabler, and I will gladly wear the label. I get huge amounts of happy, happy, joy joy sharing what I do and helping others to learn. All the new quilters (and by new, I mean brand new!) that have joined this group and jumped in with both feet have proved one of my favorite points about paper piecing. You do not have to be a quilter to want to paper piece, you just have to have the desire to make something that looks cool, and in my case, to make quilt blocks that look like something. The day my art met my craft was the day the proverbial light bulb went on and it's been full speed ahead ever since. I'm not yet a "professional" (whatever that means!), but paper piecing is the thing I love most and I want to thank everyone that has read to the end of this rather long paragraph for sticking around, sharing feedback and testing out the patterns designed by someone that loves what she does!

And I have something special to share with you all today! Carol K contacted me about using some of my patterns for a fundraiser quilt. Her theme is dragons and fantasy creatures. She was interested to know if I had other patterns that weren't on my website. I have a multitude that are in desperate need of editing and cleaning up, but she took them anyway and made this beautiful quilt! The only block not from me is the center one, which she purchased from Paper Panache. A fun fact about the elf block: it's based on a photo of my son, Gareth.

New Paper Piecing Video
There is a new-ish paper/foundation piecing YouTube from Quilter's World. I check fairly regularly for new and different paper piecing videos. You never know when you'll find a useful technique or a different way that will work better for you. I'll add it to the
hp_paperpiecing links for future reference.

...Hermione was fumbling with the neck of her robes, pulling from beneath them a very long, fine gold chain.
"Harry, come her," she said urgently, "Quick!"

Guest Patterns on Sewhooked
One of the most exciting parts of this group for me was to discover how many of you wanted to try your hand at designing your own paper pieced patterns. I am nothing if not a crafts enabler and have enjoyed giving helpful hints where I can, posting your pictures and cheering you all on. Because of this (and because
hardhatcat suggested it!) I have now added a Guest Pattern page on sewhooked. Guest Designers will retain all copyrights and receive full credits. No money is made from my website, so I will not be profiting from your creativity, but sharing with others. For those interested, patterns need to be in .jpg format, printable on one page of 8 1/2" x 11" paper (or broken up appropriately for printing), have your name on the pattern and have a test block completed. If you have patterns you would like to share and are interested, please contact me.
Until next week.

He opened the crate and there were four different-sized balls.
"Right," said Wood. "Now, Quidditch is easy enough to understand, even if it's not too easy to play. There are seven players on each side. Three of them are called Chasers."
"Three Chasers," Harry repeated, as Wood took out a bright-red ball about the size of a football.
"This ball's called the Quaffle," said Wood. "The Chasers throw the Quaffle to each other to try and get it through one of the hoops to score a goal. Ten points every time the Quaffle goes through one of the hoops. Follow me?"

Bonus Pattern
I hope you don't mind a bonus pattern this week! I have been changing the numbering on some of the first patterns I posted here at
hp_paperpiecing and decided the Quill pattern could use some basic improvement. It's slightly larger, so it fills more of the 5" than the original. The sewing order is also different, which I think created a simpler pattern to follow.

Twenty minutes later, they left Eeylops Owl Emporium, which had been dark and full of rustling and flickering, jewel-bright eyes. Harry now carried a large cage which held a beautiful snowy owl, fast asleep with her head under her wing. He couldn't stop stammering his thanks, sounding just like Professor Quirrell.
Philosopher's Stone, British children's paperback ed, pg 63.
This is the third owl pattern to be posted at
hp_paperpiecing, after Errol and Pigwidgeon. Hedwig is probably my most requested pattern, or at least up there as one of the most requested. I have been looking for a way to sneak her in to our current alphabetical order for some time! I did consider blocks for Ollivander and even obliviate, but kept coming back to my favorite "O" word in the HP universe, owl.
