I found this amongst the new pics on Leaky Cauldron. Being as this is a pic of Karkaroff, could that scarf in the background be a Durmstrang scarf or is it some sort of general Hogwarts supporter scarf? It's probably just a random Hogwarts scarf, but a girl can always hope...

karkaroff

It kind of reminds me of some of the Dumbledore scarf ideas everyone had in [info]yarnguy716's original "brainstorming" post. It's black with what looks like one stripe of each house's main color, well at least 3 of the 4. ^_^

The first thing I thought when I saw that scarf was that it looked like the Dumbledore scarf some of us are working on. Hey if it is a general Hogwarts or Dumbledore scarf, then great minds think alike! That scarf seems to have black or a dark grey as it's MC, I like mine with the bright purple as the MC though.

I thought the exact same thing, and got all excited. I'm leaning towards a general Hogwart's scarf, and am trying to think of who was in that scene who'd wear a sweater and scarf like that.

the more I look at this and the other pic from this task, my brain keeps trying to tell me it is one of the twins. Something about the posture or roundy chin. *shrugs* I dunno, I still haven't gone to bed yet. Ignore my ramblings. ^_^

Whatever it is, I really like the looks of it.

I like it, but I'm almost tempted to say it's just a Muggle scarf for a Hogsmeade weekend. Almost.

Where did you find the picture, btw?

It's from the Leaky Cauldron site, and the scene shown is during the second challenge, at the lake, so it can't be a muggle. In other pictures, the Hogwart's folks were standing to the left, Karkaroff in the one in the middle with the hat, and Beauxbatons is to the right, so it's likely either a Ministry official or someone from the Hogwart's side.

Right, but they're all in Muggle clothes is what I meant, so possibly one of them is wearing a scarf brought from a Muggle home.

You're right, it does look like a great imaging of a general 'Hogwart's' scarf. And seeing it like that, I really like that translation for it. Nice and simple.

(It also looks like the shot is against a green screen. So, like another commenter said: where did you get it, out of curiousity?)

It's from the Leaky Cauldron, and it's a scene from GoF at the lake during the second challenge.

Those are Hufflepuff colors, aren't they?

The dark scarf in the back with the red, yellow, and green (and we're assuming blue as well) stripes?

It's my monitor. I can only see the dark background and the yellow stripe well. There is something that might be red, now that I look at it.

If it's got all 4 house colors on it, I would have to say it's a Hogwarts scarf to distinguish it from whatever Durmstrang and Beauxbatons are wearing.

Certainly could be a pan-Hogwarts scarf - when I get home tonight, I'll try to photoshop it to see if there's a blue stripe up by the shoulder. I doubt it's another school's scarf, since the wearer (whoever it is) has a house scarf - either Slytherin or Ravenclaw - around their neck too.

I blew it up and messed around with the contrast, brightness, and such, but still couldn't get another stripe to show up top. Not sure I saw another scarf, either. Where did you see that? He's wearing that striped sweater, and there is a hint of something else, but I'm not sure it's a scarf since it's only on his left (our right) shoulder.

shoulder, behind the edge of K's hat. Although it looks light to be a house scarf considering the recent shots of Cho wearing a Ravenclaw scarf.

The 2nd mystery 'scarf' is very light, but the MC a sage-greeny color on my monitor; it almost looks like a pale Slytherin scarf. I wonder if the color is off because it's against a green screen.

Looks like a medium/light charcoal grey on my screen, but that could also be from the green screen. Still seems too light to be a Slytherin scarf though, considering how dark the burgundy and deep blue for the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw scarves are.

Oh, also the stripe proportions are off. The trapped bar seems to be 1:1:1, whereas the house scarves are either 1:1.5:1 or 1:2:1.

it's on both sides, but not wrapped very tightly. You can just see it on our left as well. It's sitting on his shoulders more than anything. Perhaps a "stadium blanket"?

This thread is what started the 'Dumbledore scarf' concept here on hp_knitting. IIRC, [info]stephh1 has actually started knitting one and has made a few posts with pictures (which you should be able to find in the archives since the original post).

Short version: something we made up. :)

Just a thought...if it is a general hogwarts supporter scarf, does Hogwarts provide them, or do they temporarly bewitch their house scarf own? hmmm....

There's absolutely no blue visible. Even if it's not visible, its pretty evenly spaced going red - yellow - green - red *color not visible.. probably yellow* then we see green on the other side.. I kinda see the next red, too.
My guess, since the person is behind Karkaroff, it's a Durmstrang student. *shrugs* I could be wrong.

To clarify myself: because it looks nothingl ike the red below. I don't think that's entirely a trick of light or shadow.

I was thinking that this might be a staff scarf for Hogwarts. Staff are really supposed to support all houses equally (tough a bit less so for the heads of house) so they might wear these scarves instead. If that was a Hogwarts Staff member (I can't tell) then this would make sense to me, otherwise, it is possible that (as it has been said) that these scarves were provided to the students to support their school during the tournament.

If I'm not terribly mistaken, I think all four houses are represented there. It looks like it is a light gray scarf with a dark gray trapped bar design, 3 dark grays and then one house color. So that all the "house bars" are together (4 bars) and only one house color is illuminated/colored per repetition. Very clever.
