I finally got around to picking up a ball of the HP sock yarn by Opal the other day.

Now I'm just a bit puzzled on what needle size to use.  The wrapper says to use needles sizes 2,5.  Is it safe to assume that the needle measurement is in metric?  Cause i'm not sure if i should use US size 0 (which is a 2 in metric) or the US size 2.  ideas?

&

Does any one have any suggestions on a pattern to use the yarn with?

thanks in advanced.

I just got a WEBS catalog in the mail and looking at the yarns, the Colrain in chestnut looks like it might make a really good Ravenclaw bronze. Picture on the web is more red than that in the catalog. Hard to tell from pictures so I looked it up on Ravelry and found color variations like I couldn't believe. Due to picture lighting or what I'm not sure. Has anyone here seen it in person or at least worked with the yarn itself? I'm wondering what it's like as well as what the chestnut really looks like.

Hello all, I'm quite new to knitting but recently I've made my own version of Harry Potter scarves. The 'pattern' I'm using is 35 stitches (just normal, beginners stitches - no pearling etc) for 22 rows per colour, for 21 'blocks'. I'm almost finished my first slytherin scarf, and I'd like to add tassels. Would anybody be able to offer me any assistance as to how to achieve this, a tutorial perhaps? I'd like to know how long the tassels should be, how many pieces of wool per tassel and how to attatch them to the scarf in the simplest way possible. Thank you for your assistance, I look forward to hearing from you. : - )

Hi Guys,

For those that are on Ravelry, I've just listed my "Hermione Grainbow" pattern for sale.

Picture of the finished object can be seen under the

So, I posted here a while ago looking for a good Ginny item for my friend's birthday. Well, I found one and gave it to her in March on her birthday. Here it is:
Oh, just a grey Ginny Weasley... )

this is one of those times when procrastination has actually worked in my favor. :) back in december, i asked about yarns to knit a quidditch sweater with. knitpicks cotton/acrylic blend was mentioned, but they didn't have black at the time (and as i'm a hufflepuff, i need black yarn. :D). you lovely people suggested some other yarns, but i hadn't been able to purchase any yet.

well, i just got the new knitpicks catalog this week. and looky looky, there are new colors! i think i see a few other houses' colors in there, too. :D i purchased yarn for my sweater tonight. i'll keep you all updated as to my progress. :D

Alright, both my boyfriend and I are HP fans. I've decided to knit HP inspired things to him. Have you got some other ideas than this? I want it to be a bit special.

House Unity Scarf
Slytherin Instarsia Socks

So I finally managed to finish my second Harry Potter outerwear set for myself. Hufflepuff this time. I only need to sow on the Hufflepuff house crest I even added the fringe which is usually the VERY last thing I do.
Next on the list is Ravenclaw, but I haven't even started the scarf yet, so I don't know when I'll be done with that..

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a Ginny Weasley project other than a Weasley sweater or Ginny's orange hat? I want to make a birthday present for the Ginny of our group but I'm not sure what I want to do. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I've been wanting to try Hermione's cable and eyelet hat from HBP. I wonder what yarns everybody has used for it? I want to use something thinner than worsted, I think smaller stitches would make it look better.

I already posted this in the comm 20'sKnitters and I got some ideas. But I'm asking just incase someone has something else.

I want to make this: http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/features/crafts/knitting/hpuniformsweater

But I'm not a bust 36". Whats the easiest way to evenly subtract the stitches? Someone in the other comm suggested subracting 11 stitches evenly front and back since 22 stitches equaled 4 inches.

Is that easy to do? I'm bad at math and I'm afraid to screw it all up.

I got one of my house mittens done. Although in my brilliance I didn't do the correction for the jog in the stripes. For some reason I didn't think I needed to if I was carrying the yarn up for each change. So I have jogs and I can't decide whether to do it on the left mitten so they match or listen to my perfectionist nature and fix the problem. But part of my perfectionist nature wants them to match. sigh. Anyway.
Ravenclaw! )
And then the other day I was contemplating just how many stitches we make for the house scarves. It's a lot. I did the math for my scarf. 34,580 stitches (70 co stitches*26 rows per stripe*19 stripes). I love HP 34,580 stitches worth. How about you? Mine's probably a little different because I had to adjust my row gauge. It's a little mind boggling but totally amazing that there's that many stitches in that scarf. Makes me love it even more!

Hey guys! I started making the Hip House Scarf in Narrow Stripes from from "Charmed Knits" (I used different colors though), and I got something weird going with the stripes. Because it's a scarf, it should look the same on both sides, but it doesn't. One side (the side facing me when the needle with the work on it is in my right hand)... looks the way it should. )

But the other side... looks like this: )

Does anybody know how I cn correct this? I've completed 18 rows, so I don't want to start over, but I will if I have to. Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I figured it out - I'm just going to knit a second scarf with the diagonal going the other way, and stitch them together so that the WS is on the inside. I may make it reversable by doing the second scarf in mostly purple with black stripes. I haven't decided yet. Either way, pics when I'm done!

Attention please, attention please!

It has recently come to my attention that there has been lengthy discussion recently regarding Gigi Silva. And her death. Or lack of death.

(Gigi Silva, of Socktopia fame, was the designer of Bellatrix, Fawkes, and Nagini.)

I have very little info on this situation but I do expect everyone to act appropriately here. I do not want to hear of any of our awesome members 'donating' money in her name only to find out that those donations are not in fact going to the right charities.

I am locking this thread as further discussion is unnecessary. Any additional posts or discussion will be deleted.

If this wasn't clear, remember ....Google is your friend.

Crookshanks or the Monster Book of Monsters? If yes, which pattern did you use as base?
Yeah, it's one of these crazy ideas, I've been carrying around for a while.
I'd prefer knitting-patterns, but I guess I could also consider to finally overcome my fear of crochet-hooks :D.

Today my Harry Potter swap came in.  Socks.  I'm so excited.  Here's a bunch of pictures of these awesome socks:

I didn't do a good job taking a picture of the ankle.  She put awesome stars on the edge.  It's so cute.  She also duplicate stitched stars n a few places in them.

Recently I finished a vaguely Potter-related object and thought I'd post about it. It's a scarf based on, well, you'll see.

( Follow the fake cut! )

I think it was in the first movie where Mrs. Weasley was wearing a bell sleeve, looked crocheted not knitted, rainbow colored sweater under an apron. The scene was in that tall house in the country after the car settled down and the dishes are in the sink washing themselves and everyone is getting ready for breakfast, I think that is the scene.

I'd like to know if anyone has a pattern and yarn suggestions for this? I am totally in love with that sweater.

Thanks
:-)

My first Harry Potter knit (like so many) was a school scarf. It's a PoA style Ravenclaw- book colors- from the atypically.knit pattern. I started about a year ago, and my gauge was off, so I restarted.

Pretty pictures and more descriptions behind the cut )

As I was looking for some good HP knits, I stumbled upon this pattern, and distinctly remeber reading a post about someone wanting a pattern for this hat. (although, it may have been in the comments somewhere...I can't remember where I read it...) So...here you go!
