Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
With Terminus fast approaching, I am scrambling to get my costumes ready for the big week! As I don't have limitless funds with which to provide for myself a movie-accurate wardrobe, I'm making do with what I can find at thrift shops and what my sewing machine can dole out. As I've yet to acquire a Slytherin school tie, I am also trying my options out on that end. A dear friend (and Gryffindor) mailed me a striped tie that she thought might suffice, so I thought I would throw on what I have so far and see what it looked like. Too juvenile? Too... Muggle? Just wrong? Well, I thought I would let you lot help me decide!

"Specialis revelio!" You never know what horrors might be hidden between the lines of a Poe anthology!

And for another angle, we have a romp in the Forbidden Forest. Where doorknobs sprout from trees, apparently! How fascinating...

It isn't much without the robe, I know, and my badge is still on route following my success E-Bay bid. But there you have it! Any feedback would be wonderful. I suppose the question is, then, do I look quite the dolt, or do I make an acceptable Slytherin without the licensed product?

Posted also to my personal journal, and to the revel_terminus community. Thanks!

Hmm, I'm not too crazy about the tie, but if it's all you have it could suffice. I have a basic slytherin robe I could sell you, if your interested. picture here:

I think it looks ok. None of my costumes are accurate or complete really.

That tie looks completely fine! I would know you were a Slytherin immediately!

Another popular idea is the "rebellious" type of Slytherin who breaks the uniform rules; that makes sense and creates a fun little character.

I suppose as long as it's obvious that I'm a Slytherin, that's really all that matters! I think I'm going to stick with it, as really, the tie is the least of my worries at this point. I still have my DE attire to put together!

I like that you are putting things together from What You Find.
It fits the Books just fine! I know, what a novel concept, make it riff on the books, where one needs to match colors and words, and not pictures from a movie.
Sorry, but I like imagination when it comes to these things.
Anyone can buy a Movie Hogwarts Outfit. But making something out of bits and pieces, THAT takes originality.
And you look very nice. Just add Robe and you're good to go.
PS My character teaches at Salem Witch's Institute so is American, which lets me do whatever I want to, within reason. Besides I'm a teacher, we can always get away with more outrageous stuff. ;)

How fun that you have an original character! Will she be at Terminus, by any chance?

Nope. I have too many other cons on my plate.
Worldcon is the same weekend, Mythcon http://www.mythsoc.org/mythcon39.html is the weekend after, and I'm busy in both!
I'll probably be wearing my St Mungo's scrubs for the MythCon Masquerade. Off the rack, purple and green scrubs with a red, purple and green tie dyed lab coat. The fanny pack is a lovely (slightly sickly) shade of green. I have some hypodermic needle pens that go with it, which I got at the medical supply place I bought the scrubs. And a ton of Mini Chocolate Bars to be handed at As Needed. Then when I wasn't really looking, a handbag the same shade as the fanny pack was on sale at a local store, it holds the other crap I carry around at the cons, and looks appropriately silly.
And according to the books, I'm probably one of the saner looking ward people at St Mungo's. :)

That sounds like a particularly fantastic costume! I love seeint takes on the more "obscure," less concrete (in other words, those who have yet to be standardized through the movies) characters. They're just more fun, as they allow for more imagination on the part of the costumer and more freedom for character development, which should always happen when you have good lit. I've always wanted to do Madame Malkin... but Bella's just too much fun!

Have fun at Worldcon, and Mythcon! Make sure to take plenty of pictures, or else: "Crucio!"

I think this tie is lovely-and I don't think you look muggle at all.
Great job!
