Well, it's that time of year again - MOVIE RELEASE TIME!

Most of you are in the know already, but here's the low-down:

15 July 2009, Southbank Cinemas: 10:00am

There has been no official release of the Showing Times at Southbank, but it's a safe bet to say it'll be around 10 in the morning. I'd strongly suggest buying tickets online (when they become available - still no luck on the site). If I know you and you don't have access to a Credit Card etc to purchase your tickets, please let me know and I will arrange to buy yours for you. If I buy your ticket and you do not come along, I'll still need your money. FYI ;)

Costumes are entirely optional, so don't feel pressured. I'm feeling rather lazy this year myself, so I won't be dressing up :P

(x-posted to Holly & Phoenix)

FYI, for those that aren't able to make the first session, Kate has organised a Meetup Group event at 8pm at Balmoral Cinemas.

[info]dienacht may also be planning a night-time event if she is unable to take the time off work, but I'm sure she'll let y'all know when she finds out!

Anyone in favour of postponing the July Meetup (due this Sunday), since the movie release is a fortnight away?

Still no update on the Cineplex Website regarding session times for the movie, but their other movies tend to start around 10:00am, so I'm confident HP will be at the same time.

18 June 2009 @ 10:12 am

Hey guys,

Tickets have officially gone on sale today at Greater Union. Is anyone interested in taking the Wednesday (15 July) off of work/uni/whatever to go see the movie?

There’s an 11:00am session at the Regent, and a 10:00am session at the Myer Centre. There’s been no times announced yet for Southbank Cineplex Cinemas. Alternatively, we could go to the ‘burbs and watch it in Gold Class :) :) :)

Anyone keen?

What: The Holly & Phoenix June 2009 Meetup
When: Sunday, 7th June 2009, 3:00pm
Where: Mick O’Malley’s Irish Pub, Wintergarden

We’re starting with a later time this weekend - 3:00pm. At the moment having the meetup on the first weekend of the month is easier to remember, so it will stay as is for now. This may be discussed more in future, though.

27 April 2009 @ 10:22 pm

It was mentioned at the last meetup that the first Sunday of the month, 1:00pm, was not really the best time for a lot of people. So we are now opening up the floor for suggestions! (except the floor is actually a comment form)

What recurring day/time would suit you best? First Sunday? Last Sunday? Saturdays?

Since new Harry Potter sources are few and far between, we’re also widening the discussion at Holly & Phoenix to include other fantasy movies, books, tv series etc. Yes, that includes Twilight. Even WE have a love/hate relationship with it.

Another great idea, and potential source for lively discussion, is the inclusion of a bookclub or recommended reading list. There are lots of great fantasy books out there, and quite a good deal of Australian fantasy authors waiting to be re-discovered.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on both issues.

EDIT/UPDATE

Please note that we will not be having a meetup this weekend. We will wait for feedback before scheduling the next one.

Hi all, just a reminder the the April meetup will be on this SUNDAY, APRIL 19th at 1:00pm.

Same bat time, same bat place.

April 12  is Easter Sunday *slaps self*

You know, I think we’ve done this every year…

Anyway, the meetup will be SUNDAY, APRIL 19th at 1:00pm.

Just on another note, we will be expanding Holly & Phoenix to become a general Fantasy (and occasional SciFi) meetup group this time around. Our reasons are that.. well, Harry Potter is essentially done with at the moment. There are a couple of more movies, but not too much by the way of new information. By expanding the group to include other fantasy discussion, we hope to be able to keep the conversation flowing with the new information, movies and books that are available!

We aim to keep Holly & Phoenix a casual meetup group, where people can come along and relax and share their love for fantasy and the occasional Guinness Pie and/or Chocolate Brownie.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve the group or the website, please feel free to let us know!

I’ll be there, digging into the Nachos. Or the Chocolate Brownie.

The Infamous Harry Potter 20 Questions Game will also be making an appearance. Hope y’all can come!

EDIT: Forgot Supanova was on this weekend. If everyone is busy, how do you feel about having the meetup 12th April instead? if I could have your answers by Wednesday night, please - we’ll make a decision then.

Due to the lack of response about the March meetup, we’ve decided to postpone it.

Will have an update during the week with a new date.

What: The Holly & Phoenix March 2009 Meetup
When: Sunday, 1st March 2009, 1:00pm
Where: Mick O’Malley’s Irish Pub, Wintergarden

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make this meetup. If there are any problems with this, please let me know - I’m more than happy to re-schedule the meetup for the weekend after on either Saturday or Sunday. But since the gathering has been pretty small lately, I’ll leave it up to you all!

Just on a related note, the Brisbane Scifi & Fantasy Group are having their meetup on Saturday, 7th March at the Plough Inn.

What: The Holly & Phoenix February 2009 Meetup
What: and Guinness Pie Eating Contest
When: Sunday, 1st February 2009, 1:00pm
Where: Mick O’Malley’s Irish Pub, Wintergarden

Guinness Pie Eating Contest! Since it was only Ashley & I last time, it wasn’t much of a contest, but now… If you can eat an ENTIRE GUINNESS PIE (Large) and drink a ENTIRE PINT OF GUINNESS (or other beer), you win! What do you win? Well.. respect. Yes, that’s it. Quite a prize, right?

O’Malleys has a vaguely dungeon-like feel to it, so Snape lovers will feel right at home! That being said, sometimes it gets a little cold in there - don’t forget to bring a jumper.

Under 18’s are allowed at the venue during the day, so don’t worry if you’re underage.

December Meetup!

This is the last meetup for 2008, so it would be great to see faces old and new!

Bring your $7 for O'Malley's Chocolate Brownies - they're absolutely divine, and you won't be able to say no once your neighbour's plate is delivered, anyway!

On the subject of meeting up... is anyone doing anything for the release of The Tales of Beedle the Bard? I think it's December 4th - I've preordered my copy from Borders at Chermside already (it's costing all of $12-ish).

October Meetup! Hopefully this time I'll remember to bring a camera for the website ;)

We've got a few "YES" RSVPs through the Brisbane Harry Potter Meetup Group, and we're looking forward to meeting some new people.

Hanna (not on LiveJournal, sadly) is quickly becoming a fixture of the club - part of the furniture, and all that ;) She's bunches of fun, so hopefully some of the members who have been absent of late might like to come along and meet her!

We also had a new guest at the last meetup - thanks for coming along, Leigh! I personally enjoyed your accent a lot, and hope we get to hear it again!

Hi All - the first Sunday of September was FATHER'S DAY, so we pushed this one back to the 14th.

After a few picnics, we've decided to start going to a venue where we can buy our own food and drinks, rather than bring along a plate!

O'Malleys has a vaguely dungeon-like feel to it, so Snape lovers will feel right at home! That being said, sometimes it gets a little cold in there - don't forget to bring a jumper.

What: The Holly & Phoenix August 2008 Meetup
When: Sunday, 3rd August 2008, 1:00pm
Where: Outside the Plough Inn (On the Grass), Southbank, Brisbane

Hi Guys!

Picnic time!

We'll be sitting on the grass-side of the Plough Inn, hopefully under a shady tree. I'll have a Harry Potter Box of some description sitting on the picnic blanket, just to make it easier to find us!

Please bring along a plate of food to share with everyone. Bread, Cheese, Chips.. it don't matter! If you forget to bring something, it's a quick walk to the shop to grab some hot chips or pull-apart bread loaf.

Please let me know by Thursday if you are coming along, as so far there is only one other confirmed person besides myself. If there is no-one else coming along, we may need to postpone the meetup til next month.
