Ginny scowled at him. “I don’t think so. Plenty of people saw you. Hermione’s been crying all afternoon.”

“It was business! Undercover, for work! Oh, god, I can explain it all later, but please, just put them back!”

Ginny swore, but flicked her wand at Ron. He collapsed with relief. “It was top secret; I couldn’t tell anyone.”

Ginny sighed. “Well, at least now you know that I was serious when I said I’d hex your bollocks off if you ever repeated the Lavender fiasco.”

It was the liquid that would make him forget. Firewhiskey. It had been days since Stephen had last been at home, and Anthony began to realize their forever was gone. He was left behind, with a home to keep and a child to parent alone.

At least it was one lonely night he wouldn’t remember later. He tossed his head back, draining the glass’s contents. He shut his eyes, and the tears began.

“You said you’d never leave,” Anthony sobbed to himself.

A hand gently brushed the hair off his face. “I know. And I’m here,” Stephen promised.
