A Way Out

Title: A Way Out
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100
Character: Neville Longbottom
Challenge: Port
A/N: I had a little too much fun with the prompt. :)

Just once, Neville asked the Room of Requirement for a way out.

This was back when he was still free to roam the halls, the air thick with the portentous silence of missing students. He had humbly requested a portkey, but the Room had ignored him.

Months later, when Neville discovered the portal leading to the portrait leading to the outside, he wondered why the room was only now giving him the opportunity to escape. Maybe it was simply so he could transport back some food – or maybe it was the Room’s way of showing him the importance of staying.
Challange: Port

Title: Battlefield Triage
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100 per Word
Characters: Harry/Hermione
Note: Set during DH.

Ron believes them when they both insist that their feelings are those of siblings; they could never want each other in that way. It is perhaps a credit to Ron’s open heart that he never considers the bleak chill of the English countryside or their shared grief over his abrupt abandonment.

Hermione never disabuses Ron. Nor does Harry. They both believe they were taking only temporary shelter in each others’ bodies. They speak of it once, after Hermione’s first child is born; Harry says guiltily, any port in a storm.

Ron never discovers why Hermione wept so bitterly that night.

She always stayed after class, unwilling to leave her beloved stars.

She didn't turn, only one person would climb up there to seek her out.

"Any port in the storm," she commented, scornful, but even to her ears her words sounded too harsh.

"You're being unfair, Aurora. You know it's not like that."

His steps were silent as ever behind her. He touched her shoulder and she turned around, remaining at arm's length, hesitating to close the distance.

He needed her strength, but did she have enough for them both?

Challenge: Too Busy - Sometimes, Not Being There Can Be The Better Part Of Valour.

Their days were spent experimenting, advertising their business and shipping goods to their mail-order customers whenever Molly wasn't around. It left them little time for cleaning, tidying or picking up the Wheezes scattered everywhere in the Burrow; after all, everyone in the family had learned the hard way to pay attention when picking a pastry or a quill.

That is, everyone but Arthur.

Arthur, who had left the Burrow for his very important interview with the Minister with two ink-spitting quills of very explosive temper…

"Hu-oh…"

"Run?"

"Fly!
Title: Too Late
House: Hufflepuff
Word Count: 100
Character: Percy

When Voldemort appeared in the flesh, he thought about admitting to them that he'd been wrong, but preparations for choosing a new Minister were already underway and he couldn't take even an hour off.

At Dumbledore's funeral he considered offering his sympathies, but decided leaving to help Scrimgeour would ultimately be more useful to everyone.

When the Ministry fell he was too busy finding a way to safely escape to even spare thoughts towards reconciliation.

And when Percy watched his brother fall, he realized that all the times he'd been too busy had made him as good as too late.

Broken Promises

Title: Broken Promises (yes, I know how to be original ;o))
House: Hufflepuff
Word Count: 100
Characters/Pairings: Snape
Author's Notes: It's overdue, but since no new prompt has been posted, I figure it's still fair game. *g* Also, I'm eating scandalous amounts of chocolate. This is of the utmost importance.

“We’ll always be friends,” she tells him, again brushing her fingers over the moving pictures in wonder.

“Yes,” he says, and almost smiles.

***

“Be a good boy,” she says, as though he’s five instead of seventeen. But she’s dying and all he says is, “I will, Mother.”

***

“Now, Severus, do you promise to serve and obey till death do us part?” There are warm fingers on his neck; the voice is amused and hypnotic and - “I do. I do.”

***

Dumbledore sighs, looks at him tiredly and says: “At least try and be happy, Severus.”

“Fine,” he snaps, walking out.

A Little Fall of Rain

Title: A Little Fall of Rain
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100
Characters/Pairings: Pansy
Author's Notes: This is my first post, and I really had trouble cutting it down...the last five words were torture.

He’s coming. He said he would come.

Pansy paced the small garden, glancing often toward the entrance. An hour had passed since she had first entered the garden, giddy with happiness. She wasn’t smiling now.

He said he loved me.

She had told herself that, over and over, as the sun set and darkness fell. But it had gotten harder and harder to believe.

He lied to me.

She could not stop the thought from forming, and she knew it was true. A single tear ran down her cheek, mingling with the light rain that had begun to fall.

Draco…

The Wand Chooses the Witch

Title: The Wand Chooses the Witch
House: Slytherin
Word Count: 100
Characters: Petunia

Petunia Evans studied every tree on the block before choosing.

Three times on the way home she tossed the thing into the gutter, embarrassed to have taken it, and three times she thought of that stupid letter and that stupid train, and picked it up again.

She knew it was babyish to pretend like this. She knew she couldn't use it to get free sweets at the shops, or to avoid her chores, or to keep her mother from being so nice to stupid, special Lily.

She knew it was just a stick. But she cherished it just the same.

Relics

Title: Relics
House: Hufflepuff
Word Count: 100
Characters: Remus Lupin
Challenge: Stick

Remus Lupin took his torn photographs from the envelope with a feeling of relief. For too long he had seen only betrayal when he looked at them, but now that was over.

Carefully he poured out the smaller pieces, and Sirius’s smiles suddenly covered the table. It must have been twelve years since he’d looked at these scraps, twelve years since he’d torn all evidence of Sirius’s existence from his pictures. He’d never known why he kept the tiny pieces, but now he was glad he had.

Remus spread out the fragments and began to glue a friendship back together.

New Prompt: Stick

This week, Ravenclaw and Slytherin tie at 30, followed by Gryffindor at 20.

New Prompt: Stick. That might be something sticky, a literal stick, or a metaphorical threat of a consequence (e.g., the stick versus the carrot), or whatever else you come up with.

100 words exactly, pick your house, and have fun.

They were threatening to overpower her bronzed skin. One could spend a lifetime counting them. Not that she would. Or that she ever pictured Ginny laid out on a green silk bed the colour of freshly cut grass. She probably smelled like a meadow, her neck long and soft, her skin freckled everywhere –

“Pansy?”

“I, yes?”

“You were staring again.”

“I’m sure I don’t know what you mean.”

“So it wouldn’t interest you to know that she’s asked about you.”

Pansy smiled, already planning a use for her collection of silk scarves.

Then again, you could always substitute yourself into Lucius/Severus's shoes. :] If you wnat more of my work, check out my journal! Please comment!

Five minutes earlier Severus had been walking down the fifh floor corridor, pondering his newly gifted hour of freedom after Divination. If he had known he'd have been spending it in a broom closet, maybe he wouldn't have washed his robe last night.

The two boys fumbled together, roughly, knocking brooms and objects from the shelf behind him. The urgency in their movements muffled from outside by the walls around them. He was kissed passionately and powerfully, his robe falling to the floor.

"Sick of me yet, Sev?" Lucius smirked. There was no such thing as too much time with Lucius.

So many things were flooding into his mind. It was November First and all he could see was James and Lily. Their wedding and Harry being born. Oh God, Harry. Where was Harry going to go? Sirius? “Yeah, okay,” Remus thought to himself. There was just too much going on through his mind. He just wanted to escape the pain. Escape reality. For the first time in his life he prayed for the full moon. “Too many memories,” was all he could think. Holing himself up in the shrieking shack, he just curled up tightly.

Names/Seeing Differently

Title: Names
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100
Characters/Pairings: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley
Challenge: Too Many

Ron might think he can act the part well enough, but Harry easily sees through it. He knows that Ron has never been as tough as he thinks he is.

He walks the length of the room with Ron. They don’t say anything for a while. They just keep walking.

Finally Ron mutters something to himself. Harry suspects Ron can’t decide whether he wants Harry to hear. “Too many bloody names.”

Harry doesn’t respond. But he’s thinking the same thing. Too many bloody names.

He notices that Ron stops and starts walking the other way before they reach Fred’s name.

Title: Seeing Differently
House: Ravenclaw
Word Count: 100
Characters: Sirius Black
Challenge: Too Many

When he first came here, all he saw was how little there was of everything. Now he sees differently.

There are too many prisoners. Too many walls. Too many doors. Too many nightmares. Too many memories. Too many bars. Too many stones. Too many days of hunger, weariness, and cold. Too many bad smells and tastes. Too many feelings of loneliness, emptiness, and despair. Too many chances to remember guilt, and too many times he has to force himself to remember innocence. And too many bloody Dementors.

He often wishes he could go back. Too few things is much easier.
