Muriel's Wedding

Muriel Heslop/Mariel Heslop-Van Arckle - Toni Collette

Then:

Now:

2006

Since starring in Muriel's Wedding, Toni Collette has been a very busy girl, working on such films as:

Cosi
Emma
Velvet Goldmine
The Sixth Sense
Shaft
Dinner With Friends
Changing Lanes
About a Boy
The Hours
Japanese Story
Connie and Carla
In Her Shoes
The Night Listener
Little Miss Sunshine.

Like Minds is due for release in July and she is currently filming The Dead Girl with Brittany Murphy, Giovanni Ribisi and James Franco.

Rhonda Epinstalk - Rachel Griffiths

Then:

Now:

2006

Rachel has had a lot of success since Muriel's Wedding, and is best known for her part in Six Feet Under. Other work she has done:

Cosi
Children of the Revolution
Jude
My Best Friend's Wedding
My Son the Fanatic
Once A Thief
Among Giants
Divorcing Jack
Amy
Hilary and Jackie
My Myself and I
Blow Dry
Blow
Very Annie Mary
The Rookie
The Hard Word
Ned Klly
Plainsong (TV)
Angel

Work she has coming up: Brothers and Sisters (TV), Step Up and Comanche Moon (TV).

Bill Heslop - Bill Hunter

Then:

Now:

2005

Bill Hunter is an Aussie acting legend, having worked since the late 50's and appearing in so many homegrown films it's difficult to count them all. Some examples of his work since Muriel's Wedding:
Race The Sun
Road to Nhill
Seachange (TV)
All Saints (TV)
Water Rats (TV)
Crackerjack
Kangaroo Jack
Finding Nemo (voice of the dentist)
Bad Eggs
Tom White
Stingers (TV)

Betty Heslop - Jeanie Drynan

Then:

Now:

1999

Jeanie Drynan is probably best known for being in Prisoner: Cell Block H back in the 70s. Since Muriel's Wedding, she's worked on a few films and some TV series.

A Season in Purgatory (TV)
Paperback Hero
A Kind of Hush
Soft Fruit
Dossa and Joe (TV)
The Cooks (TV).

She currently has a film, Wallflowering, in production. It stars Christopher Llyod and also features Sigrid Thornton

Deidre Chambers - Gennie Nevinson

Then:

Now:
I've unfortunately not been able to find a recent picture of Gennie.
She has mostly worked on TV series since Muriel's Wedding, appearing in All Saints and Water Rats, amongst others. She provided the voice of the sheep in the 1995 film, Babe.

Joanie Heslop - Gabby Millgate

Then:

Now:

Gabby has not done too much since Muriel's Wedding:

Full Frontal (TV)
Petals (TV)
Dags
Babe: Pig in the City
Totally Full Frontal (TV)
The Bob Downe Show (TV)
The Ball
McLeod's Daughter's (TV)
and her most recent film is 2005's Feed.

Tania Degano - Sophie Lee

Then:

(best pic I could find)

Now:

Sophie shot to fame as the presenter of the Bugs Bunny Show and has done small amounts of work since Muriel's Wedding.
The Castle, a fantastic example of atypical Aussie film-making is probably her best work, however He Died With A Felafel In His Hand is also a great film. She was with comedian, writer, actor Mick Molloy for six years.

Brice Nobes - Matt Day

Then:

Now:

Matt is another recognisable Aussie actor that just seems to be a natural addition to any Aussie film or TV series. Probably because of A Country Practice. That show will make events blend in pretty easily. But I digress. Since Muriel's Wedding:

Water Rats (TV)
Dating The Enemy
Kiss or Kill
The Two-Wheeled Time Machine
Doing Time For Patsy Cline
Fetch
The Sugar Factory
Muggers
Farscape (TV)
My Brother Jack (TV)
Shackleton (TV)
The Hound of the Baskervilles (TV)
Hell Has Harbour Views (TV)
Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee (TV)

David van Arckle - Daniel Lapaine

Then:

Now:

Since Muriel's wedding, Daniel has featured in:

Lucinda, 31
Dangerous Beauty
1999
Say You'll Be Mine
Brokedown Palace
Elephant Juice
Double Jeopardy
The 10th Kingdom (TV)
Ritual
The Journeyman
Helen of Troy (TV)
Collusion
Poirot (TV)

Daniel married in 2001 and has one child. Damn.

Coach Ken Blundell - Chris Haywood

Then:

Now:

2006

Chris Haywood hasn't exactly been out of work since Muriel's Wedding, doing a lot of TV stuff.

Snowy River: The McGregor Saga (TV)
Cabbie of the Year
Shine
Water Rats (TV)
Lust and Revent
Kiss of Kill
Blackrock
Oscar and Lucinda
Change of Heart
Farscape (TV)
Innocence
The Monkey's Mask
One Night The Moon
The Diaries of Vaslav Nijinsky
McLeod's Daughters (TV)
Black and White
The Nugget
All Saints (TV)
Stuffed Bunny
Subterano
Paradise Found
Human Touch
The Widower
Through My Eyes (TV)
Jindabyne
Jewboy

He has one film in production, 8.

WOw, and I thought I was the only one... ;-j

I saw this in high school when it first came out and my friends who saw it with me were all 'there's no way people like those girls exist' meaning the four awful girls who "Mariel" makes her bridesmaids. Loved Rachel Griffiths ever since.

This breaks my heart. I watched this again just the other week and fell in love with him all over again.

Think he's also directing the screen version of 48 Shades of Brown.
