TUK has a sale going on right now where everything on their site is 25% off until December 7th!
TUK not only carries shoes, they carry clothing & accessories from subcultural name brands like Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, EC star, adeline, Rock Steady and more!
https://www.tukshoes.com/
enter code "hohoho" at the checkout to get your 25% off Also, I don't think I've posted here about how I've been blogging on my livejournal now about things I would've covered on my former website, Get Up Edina! I'm posting sales like this, recipes, some product reviews and little things here and there that may be of interest. All of these topics will be public, whereas my personal journal will stay private. Please feel free to add me if you're interested in one or both. It's much more simple for me to post one thing on there than cross posting to communities. This sale just had to get out to everyone!

Alton Ellis performing in Los Angeles, 2006...Accepting a lifetime achievement award
http://djgreedyg.proboards77.com/index.cgi?board=music8&action=display&thread=13699 http://dancingmood.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1869 http://www.drumandbass-rec.com/event/event.html?c1_s=1&c2_s=1_1
A very reliable source....not the Jamaican Gleaner, but his own son Owen & Jim Obasa (close friend of the Ellis family) have confirmed that Alton Ellis passed away at 4:45AM on October 11, 2008.
Unbelievable.
Thank you, Alton. Thank you for all the music that you've performed that has changed the lives of more than you could ever fathom!
Why birds follow spring Like the sun follows the rainbow Now why some people sing When others bow their heads in sorrow But oh, why some trees are so tall While others they stay small Why's yesterday like today It follows tomorrow But oh whoah, lala ladada la Lalala da dadada laaaa laaaa Oh, why some trees are so tall While others they stay small Why some trees, oooohh, are so tall While others they stay small Why's yesterday like today It follows tomorrow Why, ladadadada, why, somebody please Why some trees are so tall While others they stay small La ladada la la lala Laa lalala la la lala Ladadad la la lalala....

There is yet to be a confirmed news source on the passing of Mr. Alton Ellis. For now, I will only consider this a rumor until a reliable news source posts it to be fact. There have been many rumors of his passing before, but all i've heard that is confirmed to be true is that he is fighting complications of Myeloma in London.
Alton Ellis was supposed to tour Japan later on this year, and I checked the rock-a-shacka website to find this -

This pretty much states that Alton's shows in November of this year will be postponed until after the new year due to his health, and to please pray for him.
This statement had to be posted relatively recently (as in, the last week or so) since I frequent both the R-A-S and D&B sites for podcasts.
Alton Ellis is 64 years old. Please pray for him & his family.

| music for sale |
[01 Sep 2007|04:00pm] |
It is a very sad day for me I am selling part of my record collection to keep my head above water I'm keeping my cool albums and rarities I've decided to sell these off (mostly compolations) because I know I'll be able to find them again more easily than some of the other records that I own. So I wanted to post these on livejournal to my friends and people that may care FIRST rather than tossing them up on ebay and paying all sorts of fees. Some of my first records are in this mix. As you know, compilations are the best way to hear new and different tunes that you wouldn't normally hear if you just got single artist albums. Not to mention all the classics
If you're interested in purchasing, please inquire and I'll get you a deal. First come first serve kinda thing. If I get more than one inquiry, you'll have to duke it out....or make me an offer I can't refuse. I always ship out priority mail. Depending on weight- you'll be looking at about 4.50-7 bones for shipping.

| Ska weekend in Knoxville TN |
[27 Aug 2007|09:05pm] |
So, its about 5-6pm or so, and I was chilling on a roof with the lead singer for the Voodoo Glow Skulls. They are the only ska punk band that I would ever like, only cause they are old school. We are sitting there talking about who knows what, and he looks over the ledge and pours his beer on some dude downstairs. The cops see him do it, and start shouting at him from below. I look over and I see them comming up. I look back to say something to the guy, and all is left is his beer, and I see his foot disapearing into a nearby window. The apartment was filled with hippies and skins. A weird mix, but it worked. It was $5 all you can drink PBR all day. The apartment was right above one of the stages. As the party went on, somebody said I was Obi from westbound, and this dude was like "man, you guys rocked, duuude!" I said nothing and just went with it. I see a beautiful skingirl in the crowd earlier. As I got drunker I got bolder. but being who I am, I did nothing as usual. Instead, I drank more beer and headed to the Tavern down the street for the after party. I got into a minor fight with this girl that I was, well, you know. and out of nowhere maud_amanda pops in, and says "Hey! are you Justin!?" I say yes..and she intros herself, and at first I was like "holy shit, a livejournal friend" and then I was like "lets have more drinks". I ordered 2 shots, a newcastle, and a german beer for Maud. Somehow I ended up with 2 newcastles, so I drank my shot, and drank my beers. Dave Hilliard is chilling down the bar from us, I had yet another drunken conversation with him that I dont remember. Come to think about it, I dont even know what me and Maud talked about. 2am rolls around, the after party band is still playiing, everyone is tapped out. Im trying to dance a bit more, but it was definitly bad news bears. My friend Kelly went to go makeout with my friend erin whom he met earlier at the party. My friend Mark and Erika were tapped out. I was somehow deemed an asshole by the end of the night by the girl I was, well, you know... how could this night end? We went to the pizza parlor down the street, I ate 4 slices of pizza. next thing I know, Im waking up in the backseat of my car, in the downtown parking lot that I parked in. its 6am. and Im hungover..what to do? what to do? I just grabbed my sack, and drove home that was 4 hours away.
________________________________________
The show itself was alright. I missed eastern Standard Time, and I had already seen the other bands. It was like the Warped Tour of Ska though, and even though most of the bands were shitty, it was still put together pretty nicely. I give props to the guy who organized it. the streets were blocked off, and it had a great vibe.

ULTRA RARE! Ladies Blue Gingham Ben Sherman! I bought this and barely wore it - too small for my bust. I did however, sew in some hook & eyes so you won't get any sort of puckering, and you'll avoid playing "peek-a-boob".

"Global Reggae: Jamaican Popular Music A Yard and Abroad" February 18 - 24, 2008
CALL FOR PAPERS (http://www.h-net.org/announce/show.cgi?ID=157777)
The Institute of Caribbean Studies and the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of the West Indies, Mona announce an international conference on “Global Reggae: Jamaican Popular Music A Yard and Abroad.” The conference, to be held February 18-24, 2008, at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica and other venues on the island, is the third in a series focussing on Caribbean culture. The first, held in 1996, honoured the distinguished legacy of Professor the Hon. Rex Nettleford, Vice-Chancellor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies. The second, held in 2002, celebrated the work of the Barbadian griot/historian, Professor Kamau Brathwaite. This third conference, to be held in association with the Recording Industry Association of Jamaica (RIAJam), the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, the Bob Marley Foundation, and the Jamaica Tourist Board, pays tribute to the generations of musicians who have created reggae – Jamaica’s distinctive contribution to world culture. These icons include: Count Matchuki, Don Drummond, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Count Ossie, Mrs. Sonia Pottinger and Prince Buster.
The conference and associated reggae concerts will consolidate and disseminate knowledge on the global impact of Jamaican popular culture. The third Conference on Caribbean culture will amplify the soundings from the 1995 symposium, held at the University of the West Indies, Mona, and co-sponsored by the Reggae Studies Unit and the Bob Marley Foundation, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of Jamaica's premier cultural ambassador, the Hon. Robert Nesta Marley.

| legends of ska video |
[22 Jul 2007|12:45pm] |
Hey everyone -
I had a very odd encounter this past week at a party when I was in MN.
I was just hanging out with my fella friend, as his band was playing a party for a plastic surgeon's 40th birthday party (yeah...ska band playing at a plastic surgeon's party...weird), but then he just grabbed me by the hand and said, "there's someone here I want you to meet!"
Guess who it was? THE GUY WHO ASSEMBLED THE LEGENDS OF SKA SHOW AND WHO IS MAKING THE MOVIE.
I know a lot of you were wondering what was going on with this, as the show was in 2001, but he's been running into a lot of difficulties in funding. However, it is still in the works, and it sounds like a grand project. It will be a full length movie with performances and interviews, and will possibly have some screenings. Also, he mentioned possibly another show of the like in Fall of 2008. ISN'T THAT FREAKING AMAZING??!
Just thought you all would appreciate some info on it. The legends of ska video WILL eventually be released!
Here's more info:
http://www.legendsofska.com/ (the full trailer is on the site, just take a gander at all the artists!)
