Oh, Christ.

Okay, so this couple came in yesterday morning at about 6am. The girl was sloshed. She couldn't even stand up straight. The guy was considerably less drunk.

Anyways, they come back downstairs about 45 minutes to an hour later, and the guy says they've changed their minds, they want to get their money back and go home. And I was like, "Um, no. You stayed here for almost an hour." It was pretty obviously a booty call, and besides, my security guard was gone for the night, so it's not like I could send someone up there to check on the room.

I don't think he's going to make a big deal about paying for the room now. He's got bigger problems.

Yesterday, she filed a police report. Now she's saying that he raped her. I believe her. I don't see how anyone could consent to anything in that state, and she was only about a hundred pounds.

My question is, hopefully, I won't have to testify in court, right? The computer print outs prove what I know: what time they came in, and what time they left. Everything else is speculation/hearsay. Right?
Ya' know what I hate most of all about this job? Other than the fucking morons I work with that is, I hate when people call to make a reservation and don't have the credit card there with them. Why did you call? You knew I was going to ask for it and no you can not put me on hold so that I can hear your screaming baby, loud ass dog and you screaming at them both as you run to the car to grab your purse. Call back when you know what in the hell you are doing.

Chat is back online via another server. Since it is a different server and not our regular private system, you might not be able to use your regular name.

To access the chat room in your web browser: http://chat.crazyhotelworkers.net. Please note that this is not the regular .com domain.

If you would prefer to use mIRC, Ircle, or another IRC client you may connect to irc.freenode.net and join ##chw-lobby.
Just found this comment for a guest coming in in a couple of weeks:

Comment type: GEN[general]:PAIN IN THE ***!
Comment Type: RMPR[room preferences]:"please make as double, Do not move as guest was very insistant on having this room specifically" this comment was on a previous res. If he gets insistant again tell him he can have another back facing double but not room 2, if he wants a double he needs to book one! Our housekeepers were running round like idiots because of him last time, NAFF OFF!

BTW he's booked into a back facing double this time, not a twin with zip'n'link beds like he insisted on last time.

Just thought I'd share that.

Our department is now closing on the 14th. We made reservations for 40+ Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Marriott properties, so those of you who now have to do that at your front desks or deal with the bullshit central resv. can bring, I'm sorry. Believe me my co-workers and I would love to be here doing it and not have to face this life disruption and stress. Thank Lodgian.

As for me, I got hired at Time Warner Cablevision in downtown Cleveland. So now if your cable bill is messed up or you don't know how to work the remote, lol, you might get me on the line if you call.

Hasta La Vista Amigos!!

It's Texas/OU weekend and a lot of people are staying at the hotel including a Fraternity group. Fortunantly the frat group has their own floors and their own security. If we hear one complaint about one of their rooms, we get to kick that room out of the hotel.

Last night, people kept coming into the hotel thinking it was the hotel they had checked into. It wasn't. I had to call a cab for a number of people. One guy got halfway to the elevator when he suddenly yelled 'This is the wrong hotel!' I couldn't help but laugh.

Man comes to check in and asks my co-worker where he can plug in his boats. When she stares at him blankly, he informs her that our manager and the chief engineer both assured him that he could plug his boats in in a secure location. Now, this is 30 minutes after she was supposed to go home, but after failing to reach either of these little gems, she goes outside with a flashlight to look for outlets. While she's outside, my manager calls, and apparently she just took the engineer's word for it without finding out where these things are.

Co-worker finds the outlets and we think we're ok, though the boats will have to be partially blocking the loading zone and the handicapped parking. But the outlets aren't working. I find a flipped breaker, but when I tried to turn it on, it immediately tripped again- which usually means a short. Our engineer is still MIA, so I get co-worker to call his assistant. He says "Oh yeah, those outlets don't work- engineer told me they were shorted out!" SO GLAD that engineer knew this and yet promised someone they could use them. But there are outlets on the light poles. So I go out with the boaters and find them. But they don't want to put their boats in the back of the lot. We finally ran extension cords through the side door into the men's room- which means the building isn't secure, but since my "superiors" have made such a cluster of the whole thing I was trying to deliver something of what they promised. At least the guests were appreciative.

1. I am really getting tired of being taken advantage of in the sense that all kinds of poo are dumped on my head because I am competent.
2. I'm kind of over my manager.
3. I'm going to start keeping a record of the times when I call engineer and never hear from him. I don't think his 19-year-old assistant should be expected to cover for him every night. Our GM does not seem to be aware that he just isn't available most of the time. I like the guy, and when he answers the phone, he cheerfully comes right in, but about half the time he neither answers nor returns calls.

Pedro. I adore you, man. You know this. And I appreciate that you have an extremely respectful attitude towards women, don't get me wrong. But this is America. Just because I am white and we work for the same company does not mean I am your boss. And even if I were, you do not need my permission to do every little thing. You do not need my permission to sit next to me. You do not need my permission to go get a drink out of the kitchen. You certainly do not need my permission to come in out of the cold.

That is all.

So, goin' through the lost & found items Housekeeping turned in at the beginnin' of my shift, I find the usual stuff...a shirt, a single shoe, some cellphone chargers, a pair of shoes, and then, a Nordstrom bag.

The bag is kind of heavy when I pick it up, so I open it, and find a six-pack of Tecate.

And now I feel like singin' Barry Manilow tunes...

Everywhere I have worked, sooner or later there has been a character there who... "tells stories" a lot. I don't mean that they necessarily lie about anything happening at work, but they have these fantastic stories about their pasts. Like "I fought in Korea, Kuwait and Panama- where I broke both ankles jumping out of a helicopter. That was when I got my 3rd purple heart..." or "I was emancipated at the age of 15 and I ran away to New Orleans where I was the most popular gigolo in the city." Stuff that just doesn't add up- I mean, if you own a multimillion dollar construction company, why are you working night audit?

Has anyone else worked with these people? Is it a hotel thing, or have I just not been lucky enough to meet them in other industries?

Praise for Central Res !

I've just booked my New Year break.

Don't all faint - because we're self-catering apartments & caravans we can get away, even at peak times.

It's only 1 night away at a local hotel - but there's a drinks & canapes reception at 7, followed by a 4 course dinner and cabaret from a a Beatles tribute band (my favourite music) and late breakfast on 1st January - so I'm at work till lunchtime 31st December, and back by lunchtine 1st January. There'll just be my daughter around in case of emergency.

However, I tried to book direct with the hotel - sorry, twin rooms only. That's all that's remaining. Hmm. Mrs Meldrew will not be happy.

Tried the hotel website - plenty of double rooms available, but not with the party package.

Central Res - "yes, we can get you a double". Me - "is that a request". Central Res - "no, we can guarantee that room type, because the package is pre-payment and non-cancellable". Me - "are you sure". Central Res "I'll phone the hotel and double check".

Central Res phone the room co-ordinator at the hotel - and I've got my guaranteed double.

If I leave work at 1pm I can be there by 2pm.... I'll check in early - just in case.........

;-)

Economic Reporter for Canada Stabbed by State side Night Auditor

I welcome all the people that approach the desk, no matter how shitty they look or well dressed- to me, a guest is a guest, everyone is treated like a VIP... so when Miss Priss came in, I treated her no different.

Me: Good evening! How are you tonight?
Her: Good thanks
Me: What's the last name on your reservation?

Priss, P-R-I-S-S

What brings you to Wichita?
I'mma reporter.

Her tone made it sound like I was interrogating her instead of being nice, so I stopped asking questions.
I finished the check in process and since I had only two rooms left and she was in one of the two I ended up checking the guy who was behind her into the last room. She must have been in that room for a total of 5 minutes before she came flying back up to the desk shaking her head saying that the room is horrible! We have a sunken atrium and so at the bottom of that atrium is a waterfall and our breakfast restaurant. We have rooms on our lower level and some of the windows face these areas.

That is an awful room, why did you put me there?!
Yourself and the gentleman behind you at check in were the last two arrivals and we are fully booked. He was also booked into a lower level room. I'm sorry.
That room makes me feel like I'm sitting in a public space... blah blah blah blah! WAH!

I didn't want to explain to her that she wasn't a rewards member so there were no room preferences listed or go into the whole process of making special requests when you book a room reservation. It would have turned into a complete mess.

You HAVE to have something else for me, this is unacceptable.
M'am, if I had something else to put you in I would certainly do so, however I can arrange to have you move into a different room tomorrow morning.
Fine.

After she left the desk I decided to play Nancy Drew and find out who she is. All I did was type in her name into google and found out that she is indeed a reporter for major canadian news, on... guess what......

THE ECONOMY!

Ugh! If you are in WICHITA of all places to do a story on our economy you must be mistaken...cause Canada is doing a hellovalot better than we are...even though we have been one of the least affected places in the US, which is probably why you are here, and that still doesn't make any sense because it should still be some US reporter doing the story in the first place and NOT YOU!

What the hell?

So I just checked in this couple. One from Japan, one from Mexico. I am trying to check them in and they are of course, arguing in half spanish half japanese as I take it. Neither of them speak english, imagine that. Well, I get them checked in after 10 minutes or me trying to explain what a party policy is. Then she precedes to point at the gentleman and then back at her and says, married. Congratulations!! She asks, one bed? points to him again and says married. I say, yes, you are in a King Suite. Married! she says. wow....ok go look at your room and leave me alone. AFTER I check them in the lady asks me :

Lady: Do you speak Spanish?
Me: No
Lady: Do you speak Japanese?
Me: No

Wouldn't you ask that before hand?? Hmm...I thought it was funny.

I hate talking to the backs of peoples heads

I'm not really sure where the aapostrophes should go in that title and I'm too tired to think about it!

So my building is big and I have to give directions all the time. Problem is people don't want to listen for too long so they always start to walk off before I'm finished. This bugged me for a long time before I came up with a new stratagy. Namely if someone turns their back on me whilst I'm answering their query I just stop talking. The looks on their faces when they turn around again are priceless! And the ones that don't turn around and just walk off? Well, they usually come back in 5 minutes or so after wandering around aimlessly looking for a magical solution to the situation they created themselves by being rude and turning their back on me while I'm talking. Then they listen but if they don't hey I don't care they can suck shit!
