Please tell me as much as you know about Hot Gimmick S. ^_^;
Hello~

Like any fan of Hot Gimmick, and especially ShinoguxHatsumi coupling I'm very interested in the Novel "Hot Gimmick S" that recently just hit shelves in Japan. Does the S stand for Shinogu? xD I'm guessing.

So far, all I know is that it is a "What If" Scenario showing what would of happened if Hatsumi would of choosen Shinogu. The cover art is <3~!

One *Big* Question I have is...Is it like the novel made for ".Hack" called "AI BUSTER" in which it was a novel that also included some pages of Manga style art here and there? o_o;

Another thing: I heard there is a Bonus Manga Extra comming out just about Shinogu? o_O;; Or...did I mishear this and its actually about the Novel?

Also, any other information is welcommed too~

I am very, very, very pleased. How often do manga-fans of alternate-pairings get their wishes answered officially? Such is what happened in the case of Hot Gimmick.

"Hot Gimmick S" is an official novel (continuation? Alternate ending more like) of the manga Hot Gimmick telling the what-if story of what'd had happened if Hatsumi had chosen Shinogu. It has been out in Japan for 2 weeks. I'm going to be doing some research on the matter with my limited Japanese language skills and connections. For now, what I've gathered is that:

Most reader reviews on japanese book store websites and blogs appeared disastisfied that in the novel, Hatsumi does not clear-cut end up together with Shinogu as a couple, rather, that she "confirms" her feelings ie Shinogu is the one she loves. That, or the story appears inconclusive. I think that means that she doesn't act upon it, at least not within the story.

The blurbs and sales pitch on the cover and bookstore sites generally say: "What if Hatsumi and Shinogu...? A completely different ending from the manga, only in the novel! Shinogu's bitter childhood experiences revealed!" So I believe we'll be getting some Shinogu back-story as well, excellent.

I had fun reading about how some of the Japanese fans got so pissed at what happened to Shinogu in the original; some of them considered stop buying the manga in the middle of the series(laugh), which, in the culture of Japanese manga fans, is one of the harshest gestures of scorn they can show.

Looks like for the most part, most people weren't too happy about how the novel came out; some complaints about how the novel rushed Hatsumi's realization of her feelings for Shinogu, lack of conclusiveness, etc, etc... and these were Shinogu fans for the most part too. One reader mentioned looking forward to the sequel, but I can't verify that.

PLEASE help me here..i'm dying to know what's the story all about coz i'm a BIG fan of shinogu&hatsumi!!! the ending from the original manga is so NOT suitable.. i mean shinogu can't be a priest!! he's so cute and caring and bla,bla,bla and so on... Hello! Your icon and SN look very familiar. I believe I've seen you over at the Onesecret commmunity. ^.^;~! <3 Thats where I saw the Cover art for Hot Gimmick S first and whatnot.

I do admit that this is indeed a dream come true, I was expecting after the Manga was over that was that. Nothing more would ever come out except perhaps the Hot Gimmick Series being turned into an Anime.

From your research that you have gathered and whatnot perhaps this novel will be somewhat a let down to us hardcore Hatsumi and Shinogu Fans...o_o;; I'm interested more about the back story of Shinogu and how his love for Hatsumi grew, but I was hoping for a complete confirmation, lovey dovey happy ending between the two of them as well...o_o;;

I'm glad to see there are other ShinoguXHatsumi supporters out there though! ^o^!!!

hmmm...

I think this is actually really interesting. Not just because of the fans being mad about Shinogu losing, but moreso because of the way HG was: a classic love triangle. Triangles can always go more than one way, so I think it really 'completes' the series to know the full potential, either way, of the ending.

I'm a Ryoki fan *dodges bricks*, but I'd be interested in hearing more about this anyway ^^ But a novel? Why not a manga?! *SIGH* XD

Maybe it's a novel to emphasize the alternate ending aspect of it, like when a movie comes out and has clips on the DVD of all the extra endings they didn't pick, but the ending they did pick is the one that's actually shown in the movie. Showing the alternate ending in novel form rather than manga form is maybe like saying, "Here's a great ending that didn't make it into the manga"? o_O; Not too sure.

*secret whispers* I am also a Ryoki fan... *holds up umbrella to protect from bricks* =P

	Yeah, I think creating two different mangas at the same time and meeting the deadlines would be quite difficult for the Mangaka. ^_^;; Is the Novel Actually written by her btw? o_o (Reply to this)

personally i do like the thought of the alternate ending...

but i have to agree that hot gimmick's ending with ryoki was rushed. It seemed exciting at a point about Ryoki and Hatsumi with a love triangle with Azusa. When that died down and started up on the arc with shinogu... it was fine till a point when she realized she did love Ryoko but the ending was too rushed for them i think. Should've gradually ended and not just them sleeping together like a nice ending of them leaving together or something hand in hand... but that's just my opinion =P

One thing I don't think anyone's mentioned about HG:S is that the novel is not written by AIHARA Miki. Aihara-sensei provided the illustrations while someone by the name of NISHIZAKI (?) Megumi is the author of the "original work," as per the Shogakukan site. I wonder why she opted to go with someone else to do the story, and I wonder if the characterizations that Aihara-sensei does so perfectly will stick in the novel format. I want Shinogu to have a better ending, but I don't want his character ruined by someone who doesn't recognize the importance of nuances in his story either... Still, I'll be buying it 'cos I'm an HG dork. :)

I think the mangaka didn't write the novel, because when she's writing for her manga series, it's all dialogue. A novel has to include descriptions, explain their actions in such a way that it is understandable to a reader. It's much more indepth than what's written in manga. As well, she has an upcoming series in Betsucomi right? If she's already starting a new series, I very much doubt she would have had the time to write the novel, even if she wished to :)

It's one of those things when you're obsessed with a bishie. It doesn't matter WHO they end up with, as long as they're happy. :D I haaaaate it haaaaate it that Hatsumi ended with Ryoki! No no no!! [anti-ryoki. don't worry, I don't kill those who support!] But yeah. Anyway. I personally feel sorry for both Azusa and Shinogu, because it's just like Hatsumi: 'marriage yaaaaaay love sex whoo' and Ryoki: 'sex sex sex whooo' and then the other two characters are totally blown off. Whaaaat the heckkk was that?

	i'm not really sure the 'S' stands for shinogu... i think its just a thing to say its another level, kinda like how sailor moon has a sailor moon S. and this might be a totally 'out there' connection but in japan, at concerts there theres S and SS levels for seating. so maybe its just a japanese thing, and they love the letter S hehe. 	yeah just as passivesoul said, this isnt written by aihara miki. this was written by the same woman who did supplemental vols for watase yuu's fushigi yuugi. she did eikoden, genrou den, and all these for watase yuu. i personally didnt like those compared to the original authours work. on that post i think you can request her translations of her other works... 	Granted, a lot of this is really public knowledge if you're up to date on the manga, but it's also kinda spoiler-y... ... please put a spoiler tag up? Please? I was planning on buying this so I didn't look up online the opinions of those who HAVE read the novel. But after reading cal_reflector's comment and alot of people share the views she uncovered.

Here is a translation of some key points of one girl's blog about Hot Gimmick S: "it was a disappointment...the writing is too childish...she did end up choosing Shinogu, but her feelings changed too quickly...Ryoki didn't appear in the novel at all...not to mention, suddenly a rival arrives...I was looking forward to it, so it was even more of a disappointment...there seems to be uncemented plans to release an 'Azusa' novel as well, but they don't have to release it [because the Shinogu novel was so horrible]..." [note: all the "..." are other comments she made that I didn't think were as important ^^]

Several other comments: "there are two many scenes of her reminiscing.." "even though the she is a writer, she can't write good sentences..."

I haven't actually come across any positive POSITVE comments about the novel...even those who liked the writer for her previous works (with Fushigi Yuugi) said they were disappointed with this work.

I'll still buy it though. Any ending other than Shinogu ending up joining priesthood is good in my opinion :) But I'll save my other feelings for after I've read the novel ^^

Thanks. Yeah, seems like the readers so far for the novel haven't really enjoyed it much and have been throughly disappointed. Perhaps if it was done by the actually Mangaka it would of been better...

Still, since I'm a big ShinoguxHatsumi fan I'm sure I'll enjoy it just for the fact it'll be an ending I preferred to Shinogu going into Priesthood as well. o.x; He deserves a better ending! Poor Shinogu! *Sniff* ;_;

Yeah, i haven't seen any comments about how Hot Gimmick S was really
good or something, but i'll still buy and read it because I really wanted Hatsumi to end up with Shinogu. I mean, after all he did for her, she gave him up for Ryoki (sorry Ryoki fans!), and that sort of pushed him into a corner, so he decided to become a priest. (how sad....*sniffsniff*) so even if it's not good, i'm still going to buy it, because, like some of you might have said, any ending is better than Shinogu becoming a priest.... i mean, after all he's done, he's just gonna give up? that's really sad. so, even if it's a terrible book, i'm still gonna buy it.

	I am so against the hatsumi and adopted brother coupling. Come on people is there anyone else who supports hatsumi struggle with ryoki. They went through alot of stuff to be together. I don't support Hatsumi and Ryoki because he is physically and emotionally abusive. People who are that way sometimes proclaim they are in love with that person they torment, and they really are. But it is no excuse to abuse a person. Anyone who has gone through such recognizes this behavior and should not accept it.

But apart from being serious, I do think Ryoki has good intentions. He just has little emotional IQ and people skills, due to his being raised wealthy. Someone needs to help him, not feed his disability with submissiveness. And he is quite cute, and he does love her, and without Hatsumi he would have no other human being to connect to. I feel for him in this respect.

But I think Shinogu is more compatible personality-wise. He is what she NEEDS. Ryoki is what she wants. (More appropriately, Hatsumi is what Ryoki wants.) Maybe. Just a guess. But I understand the incest taboo ( I have a bro ) but I can put that aside for Shinogu.

So I am a Shinogu + Hatsumi fan.

...And what about Azusa? Her father is absolved. Flowers, anyone? He still cares...and no incest taboo.

oh cmonn....... of course ryouki's character did seem harsh, and emotionally abusive. blah blah blah WHATEVER. LOL. i loved his character to death! i thought he was absolutely adorable, and his character definitely was what made the story oh so interesting to read =) unlike the idealistic nice guy, sweet, loving boyfriend, we have in fact quite the opposite, which just kept me hooked =) someone who wasnt boring and just.... AHHH LOLL!! RYOUKI X HATSUMI!! I DONT CARE LOLL XD

	Heh! Ryouki doesn't deserve her! She deserves someone like Shinogu! does not avoid bricks Ryouki is just a spoiled brat! I didint really like him, he's cute and all but sheeeeshhhh.....! He's annoying. But, why on earth did Miki-san made Azusa look like the 'bad guy'......I liked him when he was still hatsumi's 'hero'. Hmmm.....Shinogu is still my hero! (Reply to this)

I honestly don't plan on touching this book. I just can't see Hatsumi ending up with Shinogu. I mean he was her brother for crying out loud. There is no way you can jump feelings so easily. She has thought him her brother since she was a little girl, and then he says I'm adopted and I'm romatically in love with you. I personally would be creeped out. There is a big difference between sibling love and romantic love. For her to just switch emotions just because he's good boyfriend material doesn't make sense to me. Ryoki may have been a jerk but at least he wasn't her brother. As for Azusa he tried to get her gang banged not really someone I would want to date either. Honestly none of the guys were good choices lol. I loved this series but the choices she had weren't all that great. But I would have taken Ryoki if I had to choose lol.

	Ryoki only needed someone to love him. Even this controlling type can change =P I wish there was a novel for more RyokixHatsumi~ revealing their life as a married couple. ^^ (Reply to this)

I support ShinoguxHatsumi, but the manga would suck if she didn't end up with Ryoki. Sure, Shinogu is obviously waaaaaay more perfect than Ryoki (personally, I'd take him if Hatsumi didn't, but then there's the problem of him considering me *lol*) but I think I won't love him as much if he DID get the girl. Besides, a manga like Hot Gimmick deserves such ending. (I meant that in a good way, though that was said in the point of a ShinoguxHatsumi shipper).

Unrequited love just rocks. Especially when it's a bishounen like Shinogu having it.

(Just my opinion.)
