---------------- S. Califoria Fires [23 Oct 2007|03:00am] illshoptilidrop This post is completely off topic, but I hope it's okay. I'm sure all of you know about the horrible fires that are burning in Southern California. I spent the last 8 hours volunteering at an evacuation center in Escondido at Escondido High School. There were an estimated 4,000-5,000 people at this evacuation center alone. I was put into the high risk area, working in the gym where all the elderly and sick people were sleeping on cots. I was completely shocked as the very, very small amount of volunteers that showed up. Most of the volunteers were from the Red Cross, but aside from my dad, brother, and I there weren't many. I'm just some random college student that showed up and asked what needed to be done. I ended up working with one other woman, having the job to pass out bedding, shampoo, toothbrushes, etc to the thousands of people that came to us. It was the most insane yet rewarding thing I have ever done. I know there are a lot of SD people here, and I hope you're all safe. If anyone is able to help out, PLEASE, PLEASE, you are seriously needed. I cannot express how hard it was to see all of these people who have just lost everything, some of them had just watched the homes they lived in their entire lives go up in flames. If you can drop off donations this is what is most needed: ***TOOTHBRUSHES/toothpaste ***PILLOWS Blankets Socks Clothing Mats to sleep on *Food (Calling up restaurants to donate would be awesome if anyone can do that...my dad got some local McDonalds and Little Ceasars to donate, but that certainly wasn't enough to feed 5,000 people.) It is so sad to see that a majority of the people had nothing but the clothes on their back, as the fires came up so quickly. in one year (13) | out the other

Im kinda sad that Chicago doesnt have a Delias, because I love their shoes and I just got their new catalogue and theyve got some cuuute stuff.
