WE NEED TO REGROUP! [08 Nov 2008|10:10pm]

ali_coholic

I posted a thread about how I bummed the hell out I am, and it seems that everyone else feels the same way. So, now I'm posting a decidedly more positive thread.

We're in the after. Brooke is gone, Callica is over, we still haven't got any real information about what happened here and the media buzz is dying down. This sucks. We all feel awful. So let's do something about it.

Firstly, DON'T GET DISHEARTENED! It's inevitable that we all feel badly about this, but we CANNOT let it stop us from what we're doing. Make sure you still send in your leaves, your letters, your emails. Don't lose the faith. It's so important that we don't get discouraged to the point of quitting.

Secondly, LET'S GET PROACTIVE! Everything we're doing, everything we've done is brilliant. BUT WE CAN DO MORE. So let's formulate some new plans, okay.

THINGS TO BE DOING:

FACEBOOK/PETITION The rate of new signatures going up on the petition is dwindling, and we could use more attention on the Facebook. We need to spread the word of this even more. Make sure to mass email all your friends. If there are any school/colleges/gay organizations of any kind near you, go to them and try and get them involved. I'm going to visit my sister at university, and I'm heading straight to the gay/lesbian society to get them in on this. There's bound to be groups like this near you too, so contact them somehow and get them on board.

- REPETITION MIGHT NOT BE A BAD THING. Let's reinforce the things we've already done. Let's email ABC again, and let's definitely email Ellen again about getting Brooke on the show, or at least discussing the topic. Patrick Dempsey is going to be on her show again soon. You never know, we might hear something. Let's beg her to bring it up in some form.

AFTERELLEN. They have been very quiet about all this mostly. But they have some pull and can garner some attention. Let's get them on our side. Let's contact them and ask them about contacting Grey's/ABC about getting them to address our issues. Let's ask them if they have already tried to push for an interview with Brooke (most likely to happen) or Sara Ramirez, or even Shonda to talk about what happened. They could be a useful ally.

- MEDIA ATTENTION IS DONE. The buzz is dying. Unless we get some new behind the scenes info, or Erica really does die, we're not going to get any attention on this issue unless we GET IT OURSELVES. So, let's think of a new, attention grabbing project. I still think BurningEden's suggestion over in hope4hahn of taking out a page in Variety and getting a bus with a message on the side to drive around the ABC lot is a great attention grabber. How do we feel about doing this?

- JENNYO's CAMPAIGN. Go here (jennyo.livejournal.com/) to find out more and begin to pitch in. We've already opened a wordpress site (http://notokaytv.wordpress.com/) but both it and the campaign in general are in their very early stages. LET'S DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO GET THIS UP AND RUNNING ASAP. She already has a list of tasks than need to be done up, so let's join in and help out.

We're aiming for a big impact here. This campaign is about standing up and saying what happened here is NOT RIGHT and demanding some ANSWERS. You all care, so join in and get everyone else you know who cares to join in too.

These are just some suggestions off the top of my head. I know you can all come up with your own so if you've got one, voice it here and we can take them all into consideration and decide what to do next.

This is the time where we need to keep united and defiant. It's time to stand our ground. Are we serious about this or what? It's going to take effort, but if we don't put the effort in we'll never get anywhere.

We have to keep our spirits up, or at least use all these overwhelming negative feelings constructively. They inflicted this blow on us, so let's strike one back!

(I posted this at erica_callie, feel free to post it everywhere and anywhere that might help.)

Brooke and Sara News [05 Nov 2008|12:54am]

caddieluver89
I found this earlier today. http://s11.zetaboards.com/Callica/topic/7058557/2/  Personally it really pisses me off. I want you all to go and read it if you haven't already or if you're not a member at the forum. Comment if you like it's open to guests. Please get this out to whoever you can because this is discrimination. I don't care what anyone says. This needs to stop and we need to find someone who can take that and put it into action. We need to get this out. We need to be heard. So please do whatever you can to get the word out. Brooke was fired because she wasn't pretty enough. Sara quit and will be leaving after the 16 episode mark. This is ridiculous. Not her quitting I fully support that and I have the utmost respect for her. I'm glad she told ABC to fuck themselves. Personally I would have too. The entire cast has been gagged. So please, please, we are all that's left. We are the only one's who can do something. So please, do something.

Also here's Patrick Dempsey at his finest really I never wanted to hug the man so much in my entire life! http://www.afterellen.com/blog/sarahwarn/greys-firing-updates-11-05-08

Hope 4 Hahn, a petition. Let’s save Erica Hahn and Callica! [03 Nov 2008|09:05pm]

Hope 4 Hahn: The Petition.
The Erica/Callie Campaign.

On 11/03/08 Michael Ausiello posted an exclusive interview with Brooke Smith, Dr. Erica Hahn of Grey’s Anatomy, in which it was revealed that Brooke Smith had been fired. The article can be found at Ausiello’s EW.com blog by clicking this link. Within the article it is explained that “I’m told this was not Shonda Rhimes’ decision but rather an order that came down from the network. According to one Grey’s source, the suits ‘had issues’ with both the explicit direction Callica was taking (think: undiscovered country, south of the border, etc.) and, more importantly, with the Hahn character in general.”

That network is ABC, and it is believed that ABC’s order to have Brooke Smith fired was due to the fact that Dr. Erica Hahn had been written into a lesbian story line alongside Dr. Callie Torres, played by Sara Ramirez. During the Grey’s Anatomy episode that aired on 10/30/08, Life During Wartime, Erica and Callie decide to give their romance another shot, and Erica discovers a new part of herself after having spent the night with Dr. Torres. Erica tells Callie that she is “so, so, so gay.” And apparently, that story line made ABC uncomfortable enough to order that Erica Hahn be removed from Grey’s Anatomy, hence having Brooke Smith fired.

When Michael Ausiello asked Brooke Smith when she found out that she was being “let go,” Brooke replied, “I found out in mid-September soon after shooting the monologue that aired last week where Erica has the revelation that she’s gay. They even came down and told me it was a great scene – one of the best they ever shot on the show. So I was really, really shocked. I was floored when they told me [I was being let go]. It was the last thing I expected. In fact, when they told me I asked, “When is this happening?” And they said, “The [next episode] is your last,” which is the one that airs this Thursday. So it was very sudden.”

Firstly, I’d like to mention that it is horrible to know that ABC has been so harsh towards Brooke. It’s ridiculous to think that an extraordinary actress – and if her short “you are glasses” monologue isn’t enough proof of her potential, I don’t know what is – is being treated so unfairly. And why? Because of the groundbreaking and beautiful story line in which Erica Hahn and Callie Torres have found themselves in. You can watch Brooke’s groundbreaking monologue by playing the YouTube video below, uploaded by LeslieRevolutionary on YouTube.

You may be a Callica fan, you may not. But please realize that this isn’t just about the fandom, this isn’t just about your like (or dislike) for Erica Hahn. This is about the fact ABC ordered for Erica Hahn be written off of the show because she is being written as a lesbian, because they felt uncomfortable with the direction of the Callica story line. And that is not only homophobic, but it is obviously and ridiculously hypocritical. Did they not fire Isaiah Washington due to his gay slurs? And now this? This isn’t a slur, no, but it is an obvious slap across the face for all people within the GLBT community, particularly lesbians. Lesbian visibility is important just as visibility of all people from all paths of life and sexual orientations is important, and unfortunately lesbians are disappearing from primetime television. (Although, quite honestly, there wasn’t much visibility to begin with.) Why is a possible lesbian relationship making the network uncomfortable? Why is it okay for all other characters to engage in sexual/romantic relationships with each other and yet a relationship between Erica and Callie is unacceptable? This is discrimination and it should be stopped.

Please sign the following petition. I created the petition on 11/03/08 at 11:47 PM and it currently has 1,940 signatures. I will be keeping track of the petition and would like to see it reach 5,000 signatures within the next week. The petition has received approximately 500 signatures per day and I will continue to update everyone on it’s status by frequently editing this blurb. Once the petition has reached 5,000 signatures, I will be printing copies and sending them to ABC and Shonda Rhimes. Our voices need to be heard. Please remember to be polite while signing the petition. Be polite, expressive, and remember to be professional about it! We want to be heard and not ignored.

Hope 4 Hahn: The Petition.

News:

Apparently, ABC plans on writing out all GLBT storylines that are currently on the network, that which includes the upcoming storyline on Grey’s with Melissa George, and Rebecca Romijn’s transgendered storyline on Ugly Betty.

What to do: If you can, it would be helpful if you left comments here letting everyone know who you have contacted/written to, this way we know just how many people are putting effort into this.

Follow this link and fill out the form provided. Express what you feel about the choice that ABC has made regarding Brooke Smith/Erica Hahn. Please do so in a polite manner! Don’t curse! ABC isn’t going to listen to anyone who is cursing and/or showing disrespect towards them/the network, no matter how disrespectful their choice to fire Brooke Smith has been.

• Write to AfterEllen.com expressing your concern/anger over ABC’s choice to fire Brooke Smith. You can use the following e-mail address: comments@afterellen.com

• Spread the word. Link the petition in comments and on your Facebook and MySpace pages using the widgets provided by PetitionSpot on the petition’s main page. Let your friends know! Sign onto Grey’s Anatomy message boards and let the fans know that we need their signatures on this petition!

Follow this link and contact/e-mail Disney – they own ABC – and let them know how disappointed you are due to the decision that has been made. Tell them they will be losing your business because of this! Tell them that you will not shop at Disney stores, that you will not be tuning into ABC, The Disney Channel, and other Disney owned shows/channels/networks.

Follow this link and write to Ellen. Let her know how you feel about the choice that ABC has made! Ask her to do something about it, to use her celebrity power in order to help us! She can do it!

• Join the Hope4Hahn Facebook group.

• Join the Hope4Hahn Skype chat.

• Contact GLBT activists and let them know how disappointed you are due to ABC’s decision. You can find a list of activists from the United States by clicking this link. If you live outside of the United States and would like to take part in this, I’m sure that you are free to write to any of these activists. Nonetheless, if you would like to write to an activist from your country, I encourage you to do so as well!

• Please join in on the campaign that is taking place at [info]erica_callie. Click this link in order to join the community. Please be sure to check out the campaign update post for more information regarding what to do and who to contact.

• Write to and/or call Brooke Smith’s agent. Any positive letters are bound to reach Brooke’s hands! Express just how much she will be missed, how talented she is and how disappointed you are in ABC, and just how groundbreaking her role on Grey’s Anatomy was.

If you have any suggestions, please comment this post.

(When writing to ABC/AfterEllen/Ellen/etc. please be sure to mention that this is not solely about Brooke Smith being fired, although it is rude and ridiculous that the network has done so in such an unprofessional manner. Be sure to let them know that ABC’s actions show blatant discrimination towards the GLBT community.)
