Coyote Author: nwhepcat Fandom: Supernatural, gen; Rating R (probable) Spoilers: Set shortly after S3 "Mystery Spot," but spoilery for S4 "Heaven and Hell" Summary: Even with the clock ticking toward death and hell, Dean insists on taking on a routine job. | I was excited (but sad at the same time) to see that zatnikatel has completed her brilliant fic, The Killing Moon. (You may want to read the prequel, The Woods are Lonely, Dark and Deep, first.) Anyway, if you haven't checked it out before because of it being a WIP, you should totally give it a try now! You can find the fic master-post HERE, and my previous rec of it can be found HERE in a post I did a few months ago of WIPs to watch. zatnikatel is going to be writing one of my prompts for hoodie_time's Dean-focused h/c fic challenge, and I'm already like a little kid on Christmas morning over it, I swear. Yay! - Tags:!recs, [genre: gen], [genre: het], [pairing: dean/ofc], hospitalization, injury, mental illness, psychological damage, ptsd, sexual assault/abuse, substance abuse, tetanus

| I wasn't a big crossover fan, honestly. I usually didn't know the other show well enough to understand what was going on, or the character voices of one show seemed to work better than the other... Well, these are just a few fics that have turned me around on the subject! I only knew one of the crossovered shows reasonably well at the time of my first reading, but that didn't hinder my enjoyment of these stories at all. And I've since gotten into all of these shows (A&E airs a Criminal Minds marathon, like, every day; it's GREAT) and can vouch for the fact that all the character voices are in fact, awesome. So now I'm all about the crossovers, baby. ;) Break My Fall by chemm80 (SPN/Sons of Anarchy crossover) Author's notes/summary: Jax can’t put his finger on it, but something about Dean is different; he’s changed in some fundamental way. Dean’s always been a hard man to know, doesn’t give up his secrets easily, and most of what Jax does know about him he’s learned from observation... There’s a strange energy baking off of him now, like he’s wound up, engine revved to the point of overload and getting ready to throw a rod any minute. Set mid Season 4 Supernatural, post Season 1 Sons of Anarchy, so possible spoilers up to there. Warnings: NC-17 for sex and language. This is slash ya’ll. Boys having sex. With each other. Rimming, PTSD!Dean, Bottom!Jax. Slightly messed up sex. There's a knife, but no blood play. Also, did I mention the boysex? Dean/Jax My notes: Featuring PTSD!Dean, this is hot and painful. Both characters are sharply written, and they play dangerously well off of each other. This fic is part of a Dean/Jax series, btw, which you can find here. Defect by Kikkimax (SPN/Criminal Minds crossover) Author's notes/summary: Dean is finally captured by the FBI just as his time runs out. Takes place in the SPN universe at the end of the second season and goes in a different direction than season three. AU. Word count 39,686. Warning for character deaths. Rated PG for language and adult situations. Gen. My notes: SUCH a cool AU, and plotty and character-driven besides. If you've never seen Criminal Minds, it's about a team of profilers with the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. Here, Dean is captured by them just as his deal is about to come due, and is the subject of a psychological evaluation. Someone like Dean being anaylsed from this perspective is super-fascinating to me. Just a wonderful read through-and-through. Hell, and Back by Kikkimax (SPN/Criminal Minds crossover) Author's notes/summary: Sequel to Defect. Dean's having a little trouble adjusting after his return. Sam's going to help if it kills them both. Word count 42,006. Rated PG for language. Gen. My notes: I seem to have a thing for PTSD!Dean. When Dean starts having flashbacks from his time spent in hell, Sam enlists the help of Agent Gideon (Criminal Minds) to help. Lots more getting-inside-Dean's-head and brilliance follows! How to Survive by spectral_scribe (SPN/House crossover) Author's notes/summary: When Dean comes down with a mysterious illness, Sam unwittingly hands him over to Dr. House - a man they don’t trust and who doesn’t trust them. Meanwhile, the doctors race to figure out what’s killing Dean and end up digging a little too deep into the lives of the Winchesters, getting a frightening glimpse of a world beyond their own. Dean, Sam, House, Chase, Cameron, Foreman, Wilson. PG-13, gen. My notes: It's interesting to see an outsider perspective of the boys like this, to remember that to the outside world they're accused serial killers, among other things. I enjoyed this a lot. And I've never read anything from the House fandom before, but I can't imagine that it's easy to find fics where his character is written this well! Note: These are my personal recs, and to my personal tastes. Please leave any other crossover recs that fit the comm theme in the comments to this post so that others can check them out. And of course you're always welcome to leave these or any other Dean-focused hurt/comfort-y recs you may have at our rec submission post. | |

| Title: Reality Check Author: nong_pradu Rating: R (for language, violence, and occasional bits of nekkid Dean) Disclaimer: Not for profit; nothing's mine. Don't own any of it. Pairing: Sam/Jess, brief mentions of Dean/OFC(s) Summary: After a bad hunt, Dean wakes up to find that nothing is as it should be. Rubber rooms and padded walls, with no hope of escape, unless he can convince Sam that he's not crazy. Story Notes: This is set during season 1, some time after "Faith" but before "Shadow." No spoilers for the present seasons. We've got hurt/comfort, drugs, pain, and Dean in a straight jacket. All of you Dean!whump lovers -- it is ON! Part 4 | |

| Abandon (Part 1 of 8) Title: Abandon Author: nong_pradu Rating: R (for language) Pairings: none Summary: Sam's ready to leave for Stanford. Everybody's coping (sort of). Story Notes: I've always been intrigued by the whole family dynamic and wanted to take a stab at exploring the Stanford years for the Winchester clan. Here's my take on what happened when Sam left, and how everybody coped. I've never been quite sure about the timeline for this, since I got the impression that Sam left for college when he turned 18 (having gotten the full scholarship to Stanford and what not), but we're also told that he was gone for just over 2 years... So either it's a continuity error, or Sam started uni when he was 20 and not 18. This story assumes that Sam left at 18, and that the time that he was gone was actually 4 years instead of 2.
