Hey there, Olga here! Us girls over at House Unity chat decided we wanted to do something fun, so we're going to play an epic round of Marry, Shag or AK

RULEZ:

Someone posts a comment with three people (can be male, female, real or fictional, doesn't matter). Using the three people provided, you must decide which person you would marry, which you would have a one-night stand with, and which you would Avada Kedavra faster than a speeding Snitch. FAQ & Rules  
Hey Guys!

Rules & FAQ for the community have been updated. Took out some bits that weren't relevant (why did we have a sorting guide in there?!) and clarified some of the remaining rules, also those that were posted as reminders can now be found in the rules. And it's not on loads of different pages any more. And, neater! With clicky things.

In order to get a blanket shot of all HiH Officials and Club leaders and Ward leaders it's posted here.

Could all Officials, Ward & Clubs Leaders comment here to the correct post saying they understand the rules and agree to follow them.



Any questions can also go here. For regular community members the general rules are also in the userinfo.

and those just watching for the commercials: [BTW, shiny layout is SHINY!]

Universal Studios is rolling out a commercial for the new section of Islands of Adventure with a commercial for the new section.

Apparently, DanRad is in the commercial, too!

The article from the Orlando Sentinel can be found HERE... but I'm sure that someone out there has already put the full commercial online. Somewhere.

Or not.

Survey For All :D  
Hey, guys! I have two different surveys for you. They're not long. If you don't feel comfortable answering a question, you can skip it. My sister and her best friend are doing this for their high school Psych class and they need to interview at least 100 people so I'm helping them out. If you could answer at least one (text boxes provided for your convenience ;D), that would be forever shiny! :D And if I'm not allowed to post this, mods feel free to delete it [^_____^] ...just let me know so that I know not to do it again [x_____________x]

PART 1:
If you could, would you genetically enhance your baby (think of the movie Gattaca)? Why or why not?


PART 2:
You're a high school senior. Your parents are willing to pay however much it takes for you to get into the college you want and they have plenty of money to spare. You sent in an application to your dream college and did interviews and everything that was required. You did your best on all of them. However, you were rejected. Would you use the money to bribe your way in or not? Why or why not?

Timezones  
Hello all!

So, I had a massive rethink of the timezones page and I present to you:

Sas' amazing timezone thing



It tells you your current time, the current time in UTC.

More importantly it now also lets you enter a time and date in UTC and see it in your timezone, or enter one in your timezone and see it in UTC.

No more thinking is required!


If you feel it didn't live up to my H1 hype, tell me what you think can change :)

Just a quick check, did anyone get a different amount of knuts deposited into their account than can be found on the knuts sheet?

I've got one inconsistency, and I'm sure there's a logical reason, but if there's more than one it'd really help me spot it because I could compare them.

Just comment here with what you got and what you expected.

ETA: Ok, one problem down, the results on the knuts sheet are correct. The figure in 'your activity history' reads the dates from the 1st of last month until the 1st of this, however last month we didn't end until the 4th, therefore it's included the last set of December top sorters, etc.

Still got a problem of a difference between what was deposited and what the knuts sheet said you should get.

All problems sorted. Someone bought a book at the exact second I deposited the knuts.

Hey, guys! My friend was going around Facebook and she found an event for Voldemort's Defeat Day (I'm still trying to get her to join the comm but she still has to join LiveJournal first; that lazy bum)! :D I even pimped our community XD Haha. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys wanted to celebrate it? I don't know if we already do this but it looked like fun [^___^] The event is an actual event that you go to. It's just something to unify the world. But yeah, just thought if you guys wanted to join, you could and maybe we could do something on HiH? I have no idea. Little random claw is being a little random.

As the graphic (photoshop skillz: I has them) says, we're doing this all night. No silly things like stopping when Europe/ESTers/random venezuelans go to bed; this thing is lasting 24 hours. Even if I have to talk to myself for most of it.

Hey,

The main comm just had a bloody annoying spam attack but I managed to get the bugger banned in 2 minutes from all our comms, so the main one only got ~10 comments, but if any of you did, just delete them, the spammer should be taken care of. Which, reminds me, possibly I'll change the security settings of the main comm. I don't even know why we're not flocked. Hm.

Anyway, it also made me realise that the layout contest results hadn't been posted. Sorry guys! I don't normally do it and keep forgetting that I've taken it on this term. Results will be up in a moment along with the layout.

Sorting Hat Personality Quiz!  
So we were chattin' it up in the puff chat room, and we all started taking this sorted hat personality quiz: CLICK.  It's really in-depth and stuff, so it might take a while XD  But the results are interesting!

My scores were Gryffindor: 71, Ravenclaw: 83, Hufflepuff:83, Slytherin 59.  So I guess I'm really a Ravenpuffdor XD (I'm a Puff, btw)

So yeah I thought it was a really cool quiz.  I had actually taken it a long time ago, but I didn't remember what I got and besides, I've changed since then. XD

January Debate Results  
Firstly, thank you to everyone who participated. Thank you also for staying classy.

Talking of staying classy, I’ve been thinking about off-topic debates. Just about ¾ of you indicated that you’d like the idea, but a large proportion were worried about the potential for Drama. I also had a few of you make some good points in the debate about it (and am giving you guys 2 points for those comments because they were really useful), so here’s the conclusion I’ve come to. I’m not going to abandon the idea completely, but it is going on the back burner for now.

I’ll be back in a few days with your January Text contest, and back in February for something perhaps slightly different.

Help Haiti - A Fandom Auction  
I’m sure by now everyone is aware of the terrible earthquake that’s struck Haiti. If some of you, like me, have been wondering what you can do to help, please, please pay a visit to [info]help_haiti

It’s essentially one big fandom auction, and all of the proceeds go directly to help the victims. You can bid on actual items, just as you would in any other auction, or you can bid for fics and graphics (only of course a ‘bid’ is a promised donation to charity). It’s a way for everyone to help – if you can’t afford to donate, you can still afford to open up photoshop or grab a note book, and help that way. There’s so much talent here at HiH, let’s show the world how we can use it.

I personally have a fic thread here, so come on, buy my brains!

Now, if Quidditch or Hogsmeade would like their dates on there, I'll add them, and anything extremely large and community wide like that I'll consider. It's mostly a guide for when points need to be handed in.

Just a quick reminder that you have just 2 DAYS remaining to sign-up for THE QUIDDITCH WORLD CUP and for a spot on HOUSE CUP QUIDDITCH TEAMS. Deadline is the 13th January - so don't delay, sign up today!

Also, be sure to check out the current QUIDDITCH FAN ACTIVITY! So far we only have 2 GRYFFINDORS, 4 RAVENCLAWS and 1 HUFFLEPUFF.

HiH Awards  
Hey guys!

Now, before you all go shouting 'not fair!' I'm giving you all one day to sort your votes out.

Things that should be clear to you:

1) Like any contest in HiH, you can't vote for yourself.

2) If a poll is split in half, e.g. 'Favourite Ravenclaw' because there were too many people for one poll, then you only get to vote once in each half of the poll. If you're thinking 'omg I voted in both and can't undo my vote', just reply in a comment telling me which one you'd like to keep, or I'm discounting both.

3) I'm taking down the voting 6pm UTC Tuesday 12th Jan.

4) Banner makers? Any offers?

I think that's everything.

Myers-Brigg Personality Types?  
I've been contemplating this for awhile now, but what is everyone's Myers Brigg Jung personality type? (If you don't know, you can take the test here).

I'm not a huge fan of psychology, but I was curious to see if there are any similarities or majour differences among our four Houses.

House Unity Banner Contest  
Hello again!
 
Wow guys, the discussion is going really well! It's really great to hear your thoughts and suggestions for House Unity!
I have a feeling we're going to do a lot of great things together this term!
 
Do you remember when I said that I was going to post a Points Earning Activity soon?
 
Well, this would be it!
 
Even though the old House Unity Banner is lovely, this is a new term, and we need a new banner.

Rules and Information:
 
*Standard Banner size rules apply. No more than 400px height and width.
*1st/2nd/3rd/Participation Only : 50/40/30/10 points & 20/15/10/5 knuts, respectively
*Submission beings today, ends on the 15th. Voting will begin on the 16th.
*Banner must include the words, "Hogwarts is Home" or "HiH", and "House Unity".
*Make it something colorful, in celebration of all of the Houses coming together.
 
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask away! All comments are screened.

House Unity: Discussion Post  

Greetings everyone! I'm Luna Rose, and I am your new House Unity Mod!
 
Before I begin, let me say a big Thank You to the wonderful MC [info]potionmistressm  , for
being a fantastic Mod! I have big shoes to fill, but I'm hoping to make you, and MC, proud. =)

I know there should be the pretty House Unity Banner up right now, but I'm posting this from work,
and do not have access to it. I may edit this entry later when I get home to include it.
 
That being said, let's start off this term with a Discussion Post, shall we?
I would like to know what you would like to see and do with House Unity this term.
 
*What are your thoughts and feeling on the subject?
*Do you have any questions?
*Suggestions?
*Random word association? (House Unity = Pudding to me because...)
*Really anything, as long as it has to do with House Unity.
 
There won't be any points for this, but do not fret! I will be posting a Points Earning activity soon, so keep
a close eye out for it!
 
I really want to make House Unity something really great for all of you guys, because really guys, you deserve it! =D

I have many ideas for fun activities,and I'm hoping for a fun filled, drama free term!
 
Note: If drama should occur, you will be tarred, feathered, and poked with a stick
tied to the whomping willow like a Christmas ornament I will be very disappointed with you. =(
 
Glad we got that out of the way! Now, on to fun and friendships! =D

SORRY FOR THE ONE OR TWO OR TEN OR TWELVE TYPOS IN THE AWARDS. AND THE ONES THAT WEREN’T EVEN TYPOS (POT_OF_COFFEE/3WHITEROSES=3WHITEWHORES ANYONE?)

None of them make the intended nominee illegible I don’t think, but yeah, feel free to point and laugh ^_^
