Meanwhile in New Jersey...
I see that the Devils still haven't filled their vacant head coaching position yet. I've been looking a bit on the net to see if there's any news on this but I guess I haven't looked in the right places. Any word on who will fill the position? This year she is blogging for the American Special Hockey Association. Below is her request for pledges. If you don't have a blogathon account you'll want to get your "authorization" email before you sign up to sponsor a specific blog or it just assigns you to a random one. Today....I officially feel old
So the report says Joe Sakic is announcing his retirement Tuesday... I remember when I saw him play a few games when he was in junior playing for Swift Current and I was just a kid. He was amazing then and became one of my two favorite players for a very long time in the NHL (along with Stevie Y). I still hold out hope that they would announce him playing one more year especially considering he would have probably been on the Olympic Team and he's from Burnaby BC , which is either part of Vancouver or really close, my geography lessons are failing me at the moment. Anyway on the wonderful career of Joe Sakic, I say thank you for being an amazing player a quiet leader and stand up person always. You'll be missed. Now that I've put this out here, he probably isn't retiring...lol |

Marian Gaborik signs 5-year contract with NY Rangers
Free-agent forward Marian Gaborik has agreed to a five-year contract with the New York Rangers. TSN reports that the Slovakian forward will earn $7.5 million per year. Gaborik has played his entire seven-year career with the Wild, scoring 219 goals and 437 points in 502 games. Injuries limited Gaborik to just 13 goals and 23 points in 17 games this season. Gaborik set career highs in goals (42), assists (41) and points (83) in 77 games during 2007-08 campaign. The 27-year-old was the No. 3 pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. As a MN native/Wild fan.. good f*ing riddance. SAYONARA glass vagina!! Source: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=43316 7 Current Mood: thankful |

In the 1974 entry draft, Buffalo Sabres General Manager Punch Imlach deliberately selected an imaginary Japanese center, Taro Tsujimoto, supposedly of the Tokyo Katanas of the Japanese Ice Hockey League, in the 11th round (183rd overall). Only after weeks had passed did the league discover that Tsujimoto did not in fact exist. Imlach later revealed that he had played the prank because of his frustration with the excessive tedium and length of that year's draft proceedings. Today, the league officially records the 183rd selection of the 1974 entry draft as an "invalid claim". hahaha I've never heard that story before. |

On Gary Bettman
Do you think he's the most hated person in all sports? And how must it feel for him to be booed every damned time he appears in public? |

Okay, I'm going to have to throw myself on the mercy of the mods with this non-hockey-related post, but I didn't have anybody else I could ask...and knowing how kind and knowledgeable you hockey folks are, it seemed a natural choice. If you need me to delete it, I will, no problem...but I'm really hoping I can get some help/directions, cos I really need them. I'll put it behind a cut, even, if that'll help. >_> ( Important question about New Jersey. Not the team, but the state and places to stay therein. )Thanks so much for hopefully not yelling at me for posting this, and thanks so much in advance for any help! :) |

Kings twittering from Montreal
Members of the LA Kings organization are in Montreal getting ready for the draft and some of them are twittering, including GM Dean Lombardi and Asst. GM Ron Hextall. http://twitter.com/LAKingsHockeyThe sole highlight so far: Just spoke with Hexy about what OTT is asking for in exchange for Heatley. He said "1 or 2 players and our fifth pick." DEDE is Daryl Evans, the Kings radio color commentator. I went ahead and set up an LJ feed for the Twitter for anyone interested at kingstwitter. Tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day.
