The UK publication date for TDK is June 25th. Robin is doing a book tour in the UK betweeb July 4th and 12th.The details are still a bit sketchy but some dates and locations have been confirmed - I'm gathering and posting them at thePlenty.net as they come in.
x-posting like a mad serpent, please forgive me. ;)
Also, the cover because it looks like I haven't posted it here either! O_o
Since the topic of "these lyrics remind me of the Fool etc" comes up so often, I started a RH group at last.fm (and there wasn't any before, so that was a good reason too!) For those of us with last.fm accounts this should make it easier to compare musical tastes, find new favourites, discuss lyrics and tag (label) songs. Come join us at: http://www.last.fm/group/Wolves+sing+together
(And if you don't have a last.fm account and have no idea what it's all about, see the quick tour or ask questions and I'll try to explain.)
Just to keep this community from really dying, I thought I'd share a Finnish song with you that once reminded me of the character Fitz. Particularly Fitz in Tawny Man. See if you'll agree.
Again, another Hobb model. This was a huge project and took me about six weeks to put together. The tattoo is hand drawn and grafted onto an invisible catsuit.
( short introduction to fanlistings ) Here are the currently TFL-listed fanlistings related to all things Hobb. If you're interested or even curious, join away to show your support.
Authors & Writers: Robin Hobb (oh noes! Eddings is leading over a hundred! ;))
Characters Book & Movie: Burrich (this one seems to be pretty dead so there might not be much point in filling those forms...) Chade Verity (please note that this is a NEW one) The Fool (covers all the facets) Kettricken Nighteyes
Relationships, Book & Movie: Fitz and the Fool (someone should start one for Althea/Brashen!)
I think I got it pretty close to the way he's described in the books. I managed the badgerlock and the scar but not the broken nose. There wasn't a morph for that.
Maybe I should change the sword for an axe.
Fool/Golden Character Model
I had a lot of fun with this one. Golden is such an arrogant creature and I think maybe I caught some of that.
I reworked him because the original figure I posted was anime and If I used that one I couldn't do projects that included other characters who weren't anime. I'm not sure he's androgenous enough. In the book he's able to pass for a woman.
The Fool I've not posted here for yonks but I've been ill recently and confined to the house so I've been re-reading Ms Hobbs' books and doing some 3D modelling. I hope people like this one. I intend to do one of Fitz in the near future. The Fools costume isn't quite right, it should be far more flamboyant but I don't have a figure like that to fit him. I'll have to make one!
Jaydee here, and I'd like to invite you all to the Fool-Trivia deal thing we're having over at a_fool_too_late. Test your knowledge! Win a prize! Okay, not really. Test your knowledge, anyway. You can also ask to submit new questions, and see if the other members' knowledge of the books is as totally awesome as yours. And of course, much Fool-Drooling all around. This set of questions expires on Friday the 21st, so get your butts in gear already!
I know that during many years, there's been lots of talk about a need for the kind of character list that would link characters together and help people who are looking for quick info like "who was Ekke again" or "how were Wintrow and Althea related". I finally decided to start the project, and chose a "weapon" I hope many are familiar with, the MediaWiki script which is also used at *the* Wikipedia. I'm quite new to the script, only having contributed to one small wiki in the past, so I'm still learning things about it as we speak. However, I wanted to let you all know about it at this point, so I can hear suggestions and improve things towards something that would serve as many needs as possibly. So, without further ado:
I'm a bit paranoid about spammers and other vermin, and having experienced getting hacked through scripts before, I've made registeration necessary for those who want to add and edit articles. It's really easy to register though, you don't need to give any trivial info like your shoe size or subscribe to any newsletters. ;) It's just a username-email address-password procedure. I hope it doesn't discourage anyone from participating. :)
I just finished reading Fool's Fate this morning, and my heart gave a deep deep *sigh*. I was late from work because I couldn't stop reading the book, but it was worth it. Then I found this hobblings group in livejournal, and I was so happy to meet you all! I love Robin Hobb's books! (As I guess we all do...:))
Ok, so this was a topic at Robin Hobb's Newsgroup (which I have issues navigating because I'm very dense like that). Why is there a total lack of Robin Hobb or Farseer merchandise? I'd be so into a Farseer shirt. If I wasn't so completely design illiterate I'd try and come up with something for personal wear...however, since that's not a possibility I'd be willing to fork out some cash to deck myself out in Hobb apparel.
What think you? Would you be willing to part with some money for some Farseer clothes?
Vote for Robin Hobb's work! You can vote in the 2006 Locus Magazine's Poll here!
Please note that you do NOT have to be a subsciber of the magazine but you HAVE to submit your name and email address. Don't worry about filling every field, you can leave them blank (and you do NOT have to fill that terrible survey at the end of it either! :D) Here's what you should look for ;):
- Shaman's Crossing is listed in the best fantasy novel category - The Fair Folk (Kaye) is listed in the best anthology category (Megan's Grace Notes is in it.) - Michael Whelan and Stephen Youll are both listed in best artist category. John Howe isn't listed (!!!) but you can add his name in the free field.
I just re-read Assassin's Apprentice keeping an eye on any food mentioned being eaten in/around Buckkeep and listing them (I didn't add any Chyurda stuff this time.) If anyone feels like writing a recipe for any of these and sharing it with us, that would be great. I would also be happy to publish them in the recently started Sara's cookbook so please let me know how you want me to credit you (your name and website and/or lj username etc).
Be creative!

Happy Finnish Name Day to Fitz! In Finnish calendar today, 19.10 is the name day of Uljas, which is the translated form of Chivalry and basically means brave and gallant, even though the word implies more to valour than to courtesy of manners. (Correct me if I'm wrong in understanding the content of the original word.) So good day for FitzUljas. It never fails to amaze me that such a wonderful name is still in use here.
Does anyone know what happened to the French site http://www.rivages-maudits.com/hobb.php, Rivages Maudits? All the pages (including the incredible fan art galleries!) are gone and the domain index http://www.rivages-maudits.com/ doesn't mention anything about it. Does anyone have any clue of what happened? Did it move, close, get hacked... or what?
If you are at Worldcon, we're having a group lunch. I just ran into Robin, who thinks that it's happening tomorrow (saturday), but The 40ish Man has been making plans for one today (friday). Hit the voodoo boards for more info.
Sorry not everyone is fortunate to have read it yet.
Let me just say it is good, very good. You can see on the Hobb Board my comments on the book, so I do not need to add them here.
For those of you in the UK, WH Smiths appears to have a 3 for the price of 2 on Hobb's paperbacks at the moment. So if you have any gaps io your collection, now would be a good time to plug them. The offer is only on the paperbacks, of course.
The board is now functional again, a lot has been lost though at the moment. Behind the cut I've placed a copy of indylead's assessment of what has gone, and what is left.
At the moment Willem's Board is still totally non existant. There has been a lot of emailing going on trying to keep in touch with various members. As we don't have our own board at the moment we have annexed the old Six Duchies board as a refuge, this board has been inactive for some time, and somewhat surpringly has survived that attack. The downside is that there is no chat. Also apparently as a result of the attack some people who have global accounts have been unable to log on at 6D. The link for it is:
It is for Hobb Board members only, so when you sign up, notify them of your board username, and they will add you.
These things are only temporary measures, a quick fix until our own dear board is back up and running. If anyone has any questions, or problems regarding the board problems, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks all,
Dilir
PS I'm seriously hoping that the board will be back up in the next few days, but I'm not sure how much will have been lost. As you can imagine, with 9000 boards to deal with, the ezboard support staff are busy campers at the moment, but hopefully they'll get around to us soon.
