With the agreement of the member writers of the Hobbit Smut Fan Fiction Challenge Community, the moderators have decided to archive the entirety of hobbit_smut using the LJArchive utility and to provide the archive, as a little Yule gift, to all of you. The Hobbit Smut archive includes all the challenge stories and comments posted in the community from the very beginning in an easily accessible and searchable format. In order to read or search the Hobbit Smut archive, you will need to download and install the LJArchive tool here. It is very easy, very quick, and works well to archive both individual and community LJs. (Also an excellent tool for backing up your LJ no matter what your reason.) Excellent instructions for downloading, installing and using LJArchive are here. The hardest thing about it is finding the right file to download on the LJArchive site, but elke_tanzer covers it in her post. The archive is almost 10 Mg, so come equipped with bandwidth and PLEASE Right Click/Save Target As . . ONLY!! CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE HOBBIT SMUT ARCHIVE. (We also have a PDF file created by LJ Book available. Not quite as user friendly or pretty or easy to search and navigate as the LJArchive version, but if you prefer PDF, contact the mod. It is 15 Mg though!) Thank you again for your interest and your support! Have a wonderful holiday season! ETA: As the lovely mews1945 points out, you cannot use LJArchive unless you have Microsoft.NET Framework installed. Easy to fix if you don't. Just go here and install it for free.

Back in December of 2003, at the Gathering of the Fellowship in Toronto, an idea was born that came to fruition, after much work and many emails and IM messages and phone calls, with the birth of a challenge community called hobbit_smut -- a place where writers and readers who adore our beloved hobbits and love to see them in romantic, exciting and sexy stories could come together and enjoy those stories. We threw down the challenge to some very talented authors who took it up willingly and followed us down that road on our adventure, and many readers came along for the joyous journey. Well, dear friends, now, after 22 challenges and 269 stories, comes the time for this particular Fellowship to part and go our various ways. The road will go ever on and on, but it is time for hobbit_smut to depart gracefully through that next secret gate and allow our lovely member authors and readers to continue on their various journeys. The stories written by hobbit_smut's wonderful authors will remain archived in the community as a testimony to their talent and the community. And we know those authors who "cannot but write" will continue to produce exciting, romantic and sexy stories whether we are here or not. But the most important element, besides the author's own need to create those stories, is the need for the readers who enjoy them to take the time to comment and let those authors know that you are there and you are reading and you do appreciate their efforts. Now more than ever, as there are fewer and fewer of us remaining in the fandom and all manner of "real life" issues rearing their ugly heads to steal time and energy, we must be even more supportive of each other in our efforts to keep telling the stories that must be told. This particular mod offers very special thanks to all those who played an instrumental role in the community through it's lifetime -- conniemarie, shadowfax8, willow_wode, teasel, and many special kisses and snogs to abby_normal (she knows why). But most especially to all of our member authors, who have made hobbit_smut one of the best places to come for terrific hobbit fanfic. They are fabulously talented and generous ladies who have offered up their hearts to the community and kept us all entertained for many, many months. And to all of you, our readers, thank you for your big-hearted support of these authors and for your willing participation in the community. So, the road goes ever on. Farewell, dearest of friends and fellows! Go in peace!

The hobbit_smut "Ash Nazg" Challenge is complete at last and our wonderful authors have proven themselves worthy of the challenge as they responded to the One Ring in their own unique ways. For this very special challenge, our authors were asked to write a story in which one of the characters in The Lord of the Rings claims the One Ring for his, or her, own and to show us what happens as a result. And, since this is hobbit_smut, at least one of our beloved hobbits must play some role. To make it easier for you to enjoy again and again, we have provided a list of links to the "Ash Nazg" Challenge stories below. And, for this challenge, we have a very special web site for everyone to enjoy. If you do pick and click, please do be sure to let the authors know if you enjoyed their work. -- The Ice Palace by igraine1419 - 8623 words - Rated NC-17 - Frodo/Sam - "Frodo wakes from a long illness to find things are not quite as they seem." -- Shadow King by claudia603 - 1100 words - Rated PG13 - Frodo/Aragorn (implied) - "A shadow version of the King’s coronation." -- Seeing in the Dark by sophinisba - 7000 words - Rated PG13 - "What? Me, alone, go to the Crack of Doom and all? Me take the Ring from him?" -- A Perfect Circle by danachan - 5847 words - Rated NC17 - Frodo/Merry, Merry/Pippin - "But you loved him first, you loved him best. You still do." -- Birthday Present by teawith - 3412 words - Rated PG - Frodo/Merry - "Everything at Bag End is perfect, isn’t it? But wouldn’t you know - the devil’s always in the details." -- To Serve the Prince by ladysunrope - 6948 words - Rated NC-17 - Frodo/Merry, Merry/Pippin - "The First War of the Ring ended with Frodo claiming the Ring. (Part I of a series.)" A big THANK YOU to our authors who have proved to us once again the Ring of Power is indeed perilous . A big THANK YOU to all the readers who are still, at this moment, reading through these unique and captivating stories, especially to those of you leaving comments. You are the best and we appreciate your support for these hard working writers! Tags: challenges
