Mods?
Hi everyone,

I'm sorry I have to announce this but I suppose I have kept it dragging for long enough.

I am no longer interested in modding this community, and was wondering if anyone is interested in filling my shoes?

I want to explain; first and foremost I am an Arsenal fan. I know I am a fan of Alex but this has diminished dramatically since he left for Barcelona (and best wishes to him; really), and I no longer have the heart to prioritize the maintenance of this community. I must admit I have never followed the Spanish league at length as I barely have enough time for Arsenal right now, and that is my numero uno.

So yes...if someone loves his droopy socks and his crooked smile enough to hunt through gettyimages/jamd/flickr etc for Barcelona and Belarus pictures, if someone enjoys continually checking his website, if someone has greater access to news of his personal life, then by all means feel free to contact me. (Comments are screened).

You can always give it a try and I can always be here for advice.

Of course anybody is welcome to post anything Hleb related.

I will still hang around, I will just not be posting anything frequently; and I suppose it would be sad to leave this community to die out.

Cheerio,
[info]unembraced

The inevitable happened - Hleb moves to Barcelona

Hleb arriba avui a Barcelona

www.fcbarcelona.cat

I don't speak the Catalan language but I guess it's easy to understand the statement from Barca's official site. He's arriving in Barcelona today and is signing the contract tomorrow...

Update. He's already there:

"I'm shocked by some media-reports"
Dear Friends,
I am shocked by some media-reports. In some newspapers it was mentioned that I have attacked Arsene Wenger and Cesc Fabregas. But let me tell you: This is not true! The statements in the papers are definitely not my statements.
I would never ever say something disrespectful about them. And there is a simple reason for this: Cesc is a very good friend of mine and Arsene is one of the persons, I respect most.
Yours,
Hleb

Just a short update on Russian pages of Alexander’s official site.

In three or four recent posts he gives his opinion about the performance of the Russian team on Euro 2008.

He predicted that Russians would win over Swedes 2:1. They won 2:0.
He then said that Russians would definitely win over the Dutch, 2:1. They won 3:1.

Alex, please, please predict that Russians win over the Spanish squad in the semi-final. I’ll be more than happy with 2:1 !!!

PS. And yes, I am Russian.

Hi guys, you're rather inept mod is back.

First things first. We still don't know whether or not Aleks is leaving, and I suppose we'll just have to be very patient about it. Arsenal seem reluctant to let him go.

Secondly, there is a horrible amount of articles about Aleks in German. Is someone willing to translate them? If not, we'll have to rely on google. Apparently Aleks is doing a commentary column on www.spox.com or something. Oh yes, and he respects what Andriy Shevchenko's done for the Ukraine National Team. And he's currently lying on a beach somewhere. Let's hope he brought sunscreen.

Now finally

Guys, I know, some (if not most) of you are mad because of Hleb's (most) possible transfer from Arsenal but I just found pictures from his wedding party that took place last Saturday and decided to show them to you.

Alex and Nastya got married a year and a half ago but didn't celebrate the occasion until last week. Nastya's very beautiful, don't you think?

Hello guys,
As I promised I translated one of the interviews recently posted on Russian pages of Alexander's site. I chose this small interview because it contained something about Arsenal. Nothing is clear yet but at least here are Alexander's words. (Disclaimer: my English's not very good, sorry about that.)

Alexander Hleb: Tired

— You spent most of your career in Germany. What can you say about the friendly match with Germany?
— I think this is a special match. We haven’t had such a strong rival yet. I hope we’ll be on our best, will be able to show that we are a strong team and in the future such teams as Germany, Italy, England will invite us to friendly matches.

— How do you feel after such an intense season?
— It isn’t over yet. As I’ve already said the game with Germany is very important for me and I’m going to concentrate on preparation for it. Only after the game I’m going to take a rest. I’m really tired and I need to recover and start preparation for a new season.

— Have you decided yet where you start it?
— I have a contract with Arsenal for the next two years but whether I stay there or move to another club I cannot say for sure.

— The rumour has it that Arsene Wenger is unhappy that Arsenal players do not want to get back their own after an unsuccessful season and tend to scatter around.
— There was only Flamini who left for Milan. I’ve already told you about myself and Fabregas for example stays in Arsenal.

— And to conclude our conversation, who did you support in the Champions League final?
— Chelsea.

News - Early end looms for Hleb
Arsenal's Alexander Hleb faces being banned for the rest of the season if the Football Association call for video evidence of his clash with Reading captain Graham Murty at Emirates Stadium.

Television replays appeared to show the Belarus star slapping Murty in the face in the second half of Arsenal's 2-0 win on Saturday and although it was missed by referee Peter Walton and his assistants, it was spotlighted on BBC TV's 'Match of the Day'.

An FA spokesman said: "The first thing is to wait and see the referee's report but that is not necessarily the end of the matter."

No matchpics with Aleks on this one.

Another 1-1 against Liverpool

The match: Arsenal FC – Liverpool FC 1-1 (0-1). For the second time in four days, Arsenal and Liverpool played to a 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium. The draw on Saturday severely dents the Gunners' Premier League title hopes. Part three of the Trilogy, the second leg of the Champions League quarter final, takes place on Tuesday at Anfield.

The goals: 0-1 Peter Crouch (42), 1-1 Nicklas Bendtner (54).

Quote from Arsene Wenger: “In my brain it's not over because mathematically it's not over (to win the title), but it is frustrating today because I feel we had again another blatant penalty for us, that was not given, on Fabregas.”

Alex’ workday: Arsene Wenger gave Alex a rest (“I felt that Hleb finished tired”). The Midfielder came on the pitch in the 81st minute.

Quote from Alex: „Again, the win was possible. But in this title race, we won’t give up.”

PS, Alex, you're nowhere near your 10 goals a season target. :(
