WELCOME to

historicons, an icon community for historical/pre-WWI icons. It's focused mainly on historical films, television series, and books, but icons of other historical things are also accepted (artwork, poetry, archaeological finds, photographs).

This is the place to post your icons of recent and upcoming epics [Troy, Kingdom of Heaven], as well as classics [Gone With The Wind, Ben Hur, Spartacus], adaptations of the works of Jane Austen, William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens et al, and ancient stories, myths and legends. This means that films and books that are "pure" fantasy don't belong here, but historical fantasy do: that is, they take place in a real place in our world, but there might be fantasy/supernatural elements [e.g. Mists of Avalon, Excalibur, and other films dealing with the Arthurian legend], or they are best described as "alternate history". Also acceptable are "flashback" scenes in an otherwise contemporary film or show [Highlander, Buffy, Angel].

As long as the people in the icon are wearing pre-WWI costumes, or the object/artwork featured can be called historical/pre-WWI, you can post it here (although I'm not going to yell at you if you do include post-WWI/WWII icons - just make sure it's nothing too "modern", hmm? ;). If you have doubts whether your icons belong here or not, just ask me about it before you post them.

GENERAL RULES
Posting:

If you post more than four icons, any animations, or nudity, please use a LJ-cut (<*lj-cut text="your text here"*>your content<*/lj-cut*> without the *). Also, if your post contains nudity, please include a warning.

If you use a LJ-cut, or link to your own journal, please include one or two icons as teasers/preview. This will help people see what your style is, and they'll know if they're interested in seeing more of your work.

Remember to include your own rules! Should people comment when they take? Can they edit the icons?

Don't post any unrelated icons. If you post a link to a multi-fandom batch in your own journal, try not to include any unrelated icons in your preview (make sure all icons you post here belong here).

Posting of other kinds of graphics are (at the moment) allowed - but please use a LJ-cut, and state in the post title what the post contains (e.g. "3 friends-only banners", "1 Gladiator mood-theme").

Likewise, requests are allowed, but put those under a cut as well, and state in the post title what you're looking for ("Request: Ben Hur icon").

Please don't promote unrelated communities here.

Taking:

If the icon maker has included rules with their post, please read and do as they say. Respect the icon maker's wishes.

Save all icons to your own space.

If you usually have trouble remembering who made what, here's a tip: add the icon maker's name to the icon when you save it (PC: select icon, press F2, type new name). Or, create a folder, call it "icon maker's name", and put all icons made by that person in there.
