I'd like software that lets me:

-input recipes
-randomly generate a week's menu from them
-print a shopping list for that menu.

Anyone ever found something like that?

I use all recipies just like this. I imput my recipe, add it to my "box" and make my shopping list. It's free, and fairly secure as it's not on my hard drive.

I think the part where everything I've ever seen is going to break down in your preferred process is the randomly generating part. By "a week's menu" are you meaning all meals, or dinners only, or..?

My non-techy solution to the "randomly generating" part: a D&D-esque D20 roll chart on my fridge of main dishes, side dishes and veggies. *facepalm*

(hey hey!)

I'm basically looking for a replacement for eDiets.

I really don't care for any of their meal plans, but I love how on Sunday with one click I generate every meal for a week, and have a shopping list for those meals.

Hmm. That would be lovely. And it might be extra nifty if the ingredients in recipes could act as tags and if you wanted, the software/service, could generate weekly menus that are not totally random, but which instead try to use some overlapping ingredients (i.e. recipes that share some of the same tags). So that you don't end up with, say, half an avocado rotting in the fridge.

Might I suggest menumailer? Savingdinner.com. You don't pick the meals yourself, but Leanne (the lady who runs it) picks out a dinner for 6 nights, based on which mailer you subscribe to (vegetarian, menu for two, low carb, etc), and e-mails them to you. This includes your menu list and a shopping list showing everything you need! It's really a great service if you use it (I don't cook often enough, but I have tons of recipes saved up from this). She also has a book, with the same premise (same name too).

None of those seem to allow you to make a one-click menu... like after the recipes are all put in you click and it randomly assigns a breakfast, lunch, and dinner meal to each day of the week.
