This could be the most inane post ever....
....But the bed partner and I are at a standstill in negotiations.

We seem to have entirely different temperatures when it comes to sleeping. Last night, I went to bed in socks, tee shirt and pajama pants, and the Boy was in bed in boxers. He is laughing at me for being cold, and many nights I need an extra blanket. It only seems exagerated in the winter.

We have consider getting an electric blanket with dual controls, but the Boy seems to think he will be too warm, even if his is off. Has anyone had any experience with this? I usaually warm up and kick the extra blanket off later, and was thinking I could just turn the blanket off anyway. Any good brands for the blanket?

When we first met, I was the flannel sheets and down comforter girl, and he had the 180 thread count sheets and generic comforter. He is opposed to the flannel sheets, and the jersey ones too (I know, there is something drastically wrong with him) and although we have upgraded to high count sheets, I still miss the down comforter.

I was wondering if we got a cooler comforter and an electric blanket if that would be a good compromise. Any suggestions for where to get a down comforter? Has anyone used the ones from IKEA? I love their stuff, but the comforters are so much less than other places that I am wondering what the difference is, or if it just good old IKEA engineering.

We have our own sets of blankets. I freeze under 2 blankets when he can sleep with none. Plus, no blanket hogging issues.

that's what we do too, along with having an electric blanket with dual controls underneath us (right over the mattress pad). We just sort of overlap in the middle when we want to cuddle or... ;)

My Hubby and I have separate blankets, mostly because he's a terrible blanket hog. But it may work for you, too - so that you can have your down comforter back.

We have the same problem at my house. I like it COLD when I sleep (I put hte thermostat at 62, and even then sometimes I wake up hot and push off all of the covers (I'm perimenopausal so that doesn't help either). What we do is just put extra covers on his side.

My boy and I also have separate blankets. He likes to steal them when we share. :(

I am the hot one and my ex was the cool one.

SO, I love flannel in dead cold winter time and that is it. I like the softness of jersey but I always pulled them up off the mattress. So my recomendation is this, get the down. He can always kick it off at night. For me being the overly hot one, down actually lets me breathe at night if that makes sense. And down will keep you warm. Or just go for separate blankets. I did that too until the blanket hog took EVERYTHING. Damn he was difficult to sleep next too.

We have the same issue, although I was successful on the flannel and jersey sheets. What we do is we share the same sheets, but then he kicks the duvet on to me so he's only under the sheet. It's a hypoallergenic down'ish comforter, so it's very warm, which makes me happy and he likes just the sheet.

We used to keep our own sets of blankets, although we have finally learned to share now, after almost 6 years. I don't have the comforter from IKEA, but I do have a down pillow and other bedding from them. They seem to be fine quality to me, although I wished I had gotten the firmer down pillow, myself.

My husband and I have the dual control electric blanket- and it saves me in the winter! I can turn on my half to whatever temp and he can have his side completely off. In terms of warmth you could get rid of the comforter entirely and just use a blanket- I rarely have it over the lowest level, but it still makes a HUGE difference. I love having both, but it might work if your SO is resisting extra blankets.

My husband and I have always had seperate blankets. We tried the one blanket thing for about one night. No go. He rolls over about fifty thousand times and I'd wind up wihtout a cover. This way, we each have our "stach" of sheets, blankets and whatever and we layer up with whatever, or without and everyone is happy.

Separate blankies. It's the only way to go. You can snuggle parts under each otehr's covers, but each stays comfy in their own cocoon.

Me and my boy are like night and day with our sleeping warmth levels. I get super cold at night during the winter and end up sleeping in the same clothes that you mentioned, when he sleeps in just a sleeveless t shirt and his shorts. He has a fan that blows on him at night on his side of the bed. I have extra blankets on my side of the bed. This seems to work fine for us. He tosses the covers off and I sleep under like ten. lol!

we also have seperate blankets.. i am the cold person and i can understand his need for no flannel it get very warm when you sleep and with 2 people radiating heat it gets worse.. i sleep closer to the window with it open all year ( save for ac issues) and that seems to work. i have a very old flat comforter and he has his fleece and new comforter and it gets too warm when sharing.. we do our deed and usually after he goes to sleep i go back to my blanket.

IKEA seems to sell feather comforters as opposed to down comforters. They're still warmer than your standard poly-fill comforters, but heavier and less expensive than down. I've got one, and if I had to do it over, I might have gotten several twin-sized ones instead of one big king sized one. The king sized comforter is HEAVY.

How about a single size electric blanket for yourself.

Try getting a comforter that is more heavy then thick. I was in the same boat as you until we bought a new blanket that is very heavy. For some reason it keeps me very warm but it doesn't affect my husband so he can stay cooler.

Sounds just like here. Twin size down comforter for you. He can sleep under just the sheet if he likes, pull the conforter over your side of the bed.

A bonus is that my cats all come and keep me warm too. They love my electric blanket.

Oh make sure you get a real down comforter, if that matters to you. And they're not cheap either. Land's End used to carry some very good ones.
Land's End down comforters They stand behiond all of their products, whether clothes or otherwise.

HTH..

We're opposite -- I'm the hot one, the boy is always cold. We're in a queen sized bed, and the solution is usually that I wear next to nothing and he's in flannel and socks. We have a down comforter, but I add a twin size (or even a kid-bed size) blanket on his half for extra if he wants.

As for Ikea down comforters, I got one a few years ago and LOVE it. I got one that was in the middle for the cold-level & never regretted it. Can't beat the price!

We've got the electric blanket with dual controls - the blanket directions even say that you don't need any other blanket with it (and they're right, the only time we needed another blanket was when the heat wasn't turned on yet, and it was 30 degrees outside at night - and we only had a thin, thin quilt/comforter on top of it).

If he can sleep with a sheet and a comforter, he should be fine with the blanket and the sheet instead. If you each sleep on your own sides of the bed, he will not be affected by the heat on your side of the bed (a few times, I've woken up with my blanket turned off and my feet poking out for some cool air only to discover my partner's got the blanket at medium heat while wearing clothing). However, we've got a queen size bed, and I don't know how different it would be in a smaller bed.

my bf and i laughed at this since we're the exact same way...including his dislike of flannel sheets and everything! I usually sleep in socks (which I end up taking off by morning), pj pants, and a tee or long sleeve shirt...with flannel sheets (yes even though he doesn't like them), a comforter, a throw blanket, and a down throw on. he's over there in boxers, flannel sheet, and just the comforter on halfway. sometimes he'll just fold the blanket over so it's on me twice and not on him at all, but otherwise i can't really think of anything that would work short of getting twin sized blankets/throws and just putting them on your side.

Wow. I am so glad we are not the only ones, but I guess it isn't that unexpected.
Thanks for all your ideas.

I think I am going to push the electric blanket idea a little more.

My husband and I share a King size bed made up with a King fitted sheet, no top sheet, and two twin comforters. I also have a velux blanket and a body pillow. He has a ton of little pillows. It gets made up to look like one set of stuff, but we are happy and hog-free at night.

We have the dual-control blanket, and we love it. We also use a down comforter we got from Tuesday Morning, and he sleeps with a fan blowing on him, which seems to work to keep him cool enough with the down comforter. We haven't had any problems with the dual-control blanket -- I stay warm and he doesn't sweat to death :-)

my boy and i have basically the same problem. i am always cold, he is always hot. i go to bed in fleece pajama pants and a tank top and fleece sweatshirt in the winter. by midway through the night though, i kick off the pants and the sweatshirt. we have a down comforter from ikea and its okay. it tends to be really heavy though (weight wise) and i would almost say its a lightweight down comforter because its not nearly as warm as it should be for that many feathers. growing up, i always had down comforters and this one is nothing like they were. someday ill splurge for an super extra warm one from the company store or something.

Just another chime in with the same issue! We both have compromised. He gave in to jersey sheets 2 weeks a month and I gave in to flat sheets 2 weeks a month. Then we have a basic knitweave blanket and a light comforter. Then he bought me a nice thick fleece twin size blanket, and one of these baby down throws from target (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=sc_pgc_r_5_0_1041492/602-2014361-4983830?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0001M8RI4) I put them over me but they aren't big enough to drift to his side of the bed. Works awesome for us and I get my down!

have never purchased a blanket from Ikea. May I suggest searching racks at Ross or Marshalls? They have good prices, but alas. You must dig.

I have a suggestion if you're ever in Germany, or know someone that is. It's a bit of a longshot though.

Germany has the best blankets ever. Is it German engineering? Why doesn't the US have it?

The down blankets there are the absolute -best- ever, and their synthetic blankets are great too. I use mine (we brought it back in a pillowcase) in So CA in winter and summer, and also in WashDC in the winter. It's light, yet warm. It never gets too warm, but stays at the right temp.

anyways. My label says "Centa-star", their website is http://www.centa-star.de/. I, sadly, do not understand German, and that is as far as I can go.
