| Tokyo, January 6th, Late Afternoon
This is a Special Weather Alert
A severe blizzard blew into town, dumping an unspecified, but ample, amount of snow on the city of Tokyo late this afternoon. May heaven help anyone who was caught outside in this mess, or is away from their home.
Although the day started fairly well weather-wise for a January day, the situation began to deteriorate around noon when some very thick, dark gray clouds drifted in. By mid-afternoon the weather situation looked positively threatening. Snow started falling later in the afternoon, and at the moment the wind is blowing, and it is a real white-out, out there.
Take shelter where ever you can, batten down your hatches, hide in your storm cellars (oops, sorry, this isn’t Kansas, Dorothy). Anyway, you get my drift (No…I did *not* plan that pun).
This stuff is not going to let up for the rest of the day, and will stick around for most of the night. The wind chill factor (Do we have that in 1882?) will make the temperature tank, so cuddle up to your dogs, cats, wolves, roosters, rurounis, wanna be samurai, mountain men, and ice blocks (Yes, compared to the outside temps even he will feel *hot*.) and try to stay warm.
Rumor has it that nine months from today the maternity ward at Tokyo General is going to be overrun.
(OOC: Due to the unexpected weather event, all HG players will have two weeks to put up January 6th after and/or during the blizzard threads or placeholders. January 7th will arrive promptly (I hope) at 3:01 EDT on July 15th…this time for real, lol. Please -cough- direct any complaints issues about today’s late afternoon blizzard snowstorm to the Newsboy. His sister, the Weather Girl, is home snuggled up trying to keep warm with her wolf husband. ) | |

| Friday, January 6, 1882
Okay, so don’t blame me. I just *report* the weather; I don’t make it!
Are you tired of the boring, bone chilling cold we had for the past two days? Well, you may *not* be, but I sure am!
It was good for one thing though. It did make for some nice, up-close and personal moments in the futons around town, because there is nothing like a warm body to snuggle against when both the outdoor temp and the temp inside your house are the glorious, below freezing same.
I wonder if there will be some crowded conditions in the maternity ward at Tokyo General nine months down the road. Oh, sorry, that only happens during blizzards.
Hey, it isn’t MY fault if your husband didn’t buy enough wood to keep the fire in your kitchen stove burning all night long. Maybe next fall *you* should be the one to order the winter wood supply.
I could report a blizzard; someone did request that didn’t you dear brother. But don’t you think that having cold and snow for three out of the last five days was enough?
It is still January, so a blizzard could be a brewing somewhere down the line, but *not* today.
Speaking of today, we have a change in the weather! It will be 41 degrees when you wake up, and warm up to a balmy (for January) 46 degrees and stay there for the rest of the daylight hours. Not quite short-sleeved yukata weather, but better than staying below the freezing mark for 24 hours in a row.
(So dear brother, just give the word and we will have a complete white out in town on Jan 7th! It would be a great way to start the weekend, and fill those maternity ward beds nine months from tomorrow!)
--- News ---
Who was asking for a blizzard? I wasn't asking for any kind of blizzard, sweet sister! even though I waited all night outside the flower shop in hopes one would come by and I would get to cuddle up to the flower girl. boo hoo.
But yes, news:
Another officer found dead, this one found hanging in a stable by a groom this morning, though curiously not a stable belonging to him. The authorities are pretty close lipped on this but are ruling it a suicide. As for the other deaths over the past few days they want to assure the kind citizens of Tokyo that they are making headway into finding out the culprit.
In other news, a thief broke into the Migawa Hotel last night and broke into the rooms of three foreigners. So far nothing has been reported stolen except three pairs of silk bloomers from a certain Mrs. Leginraldu- Reginradu-- gaijin. would that make him a bloomin theif?
Finally some strange rumors are spreading around town. I don't know who found out made up the story about me being found wandering around Yoshiwara at 3am in nothing but a loincloth but I can assure you it was completely fabricated!
And now a word from our sponsor of the day:
Want soba? Love soba? Crave soba? Than come on down to Tanaka's Soba Stand and Eat Eat Eat! We have a special on cold soba lasting just two days, that's right, so if you like your cold soba and like it cheap, we have a deal for you! In light of the recent tragedies we are also offering a small discount to our brave men of the police force! | |

| Thursday, January 5, 1882It’s only the 5th day of the new year, and I am already sick of reporting the weather for 1882. We are having a repeat performance of yesterday’s weather. Yes, those that control what comes from the sky must have been quite pleased with their handiwork yesterday, since today will be exactly the same. The temps were below freezing last night and will stay that way ….all….day…..long. Ugh. Will that hurt the sake we have stored out in the shed?At least you should have your winter haori out of storage to keep you warm, IF you bothered to listen to me yesterday. But if you are like MY husband, you are probably still waiting for your wife to get it out of the trunk for you. Men…sheesh! At least they make great bed warmers when they bother to come home at night. That is it for me. Let’s see what my clairvoyant brother has for you today! P.S. Oh, I almost forgot! I heard a romantic rumor around town, something about a marriage proposal merger, or something like that, but alas, it is my brother who is the purveyor of juicy gossip news, so I guess it isn’t my place to say anything about it unfortunately. ----- ----- newsboy Exciting news coming out of the Tokyo University lecture yesterday. No, really!. I can honestly tell you that you will really want to hear this news! Unfortunately due to intimidating police forces certain pressures I'm not able to tell you what I know. yet So you'll have to find out from the people who have gone. (and when you get the news you know where to send it) Three young laborers have been missing since late last Tuesday night. Police are looking into the matter but as there is no money involved, they probably aren't looking very hard Their names are being withheld for the time being but if anyone has seen any suspicious activity around the Rakunimura please report it to your local precinct station. In other news, I would like to take a moment to honor my dear sweet sister, the weather girl, who, not only brings you mostly accurate weather forecasts but also is always willing to help her dear, loving, desperate brother find his winter haori... | |
