Blind Go inspired me to write a post about Sai depictions in fan fiction - or rather, the lack of serious Sai fic as I see it, as well as the lack of historical fic in general in this fandom. This may or may not be the first in a series of whiny rants questions or analysis on HnG fic, but since Sai is my favorite character, I'd really like to see more talk, writing, etc. about him in particular.
I'm interested in opinions, recs, arguments, whatever - my involvement with the fandom is minimal, so there could be caches of fanfics I don't know about, or I could be off-base with some of my assumptions, and I'd like to know.

So I've been monitoring the concrit thread on the anonymeme (yes, actually, I have many better things to do with my time) and it seems to have been something like a success, including the "anonymous" part.
So here's what I'm wondering: should we have a community for this? Here's what I'm thinking:
- All comments anonymous.
- Fic can be anonymously submitted or not as submitters prefer.
ETA: There was a line here about the posts being locked, but as was pointed out in comments, you can't comment anonymously on locked posts. You suck, LJ.
Would you join? Would you use it? Would you participate? No point setting it up if it's only going to be used by three people.
(I absolutely and forthrightly disclaim anything resembling disinterest in this because I love to talk about the craft of writing and I am a feedback junkie, so I would be all over this like wax on kaya.)

Wrote this a week or two ago, as a response to two-year-old prompt from ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) flonnebonne; have sat on x-posting this for a while mainly because Hidaka (and flonnebonne) seriously deserves something better and spunkier.

Something I noticed on the anonymeme, in amongst the usual anonymeme pollution, was a bunch of people saying "I don't know if anybody in fandom actually notices I exist..."
So I propose an underappreciated author recognition post.
RULES:
1a. Comment with your username. LURKERS ESPECIALLY WELCOME.
1b. AND/OR nominate other people who you think deserve recognition. Specific recs particularly welcome with nominations.
2. People will say nice things about you and your fic. Even if it's just "We see what you are doing there! Keep on doing it!" Ideally these will be people who have not commented on your stuff in the past. (Perhaps they always meant to and didn't get around to it, we know how it goes.)
3. Dickery will be rigorously policed and terminated on sight.
4. Pimp far and wide, all across the fandom.

NOTE TO THOSE WHO WERE LINKED HERE: This is kind of awkward because I actually believe everyone deserves love and don't want to discourage its expression, but this post is for Hikago fandom. Please take note.

I'm just dropping by to let you know that I recced Hikaru no Go at crack_van this month. If you are interested, you can see the eight fic recs under this tag. I had a really hard time trying to decide which ones to rec, since the fandom is so full of amazing fics :D

Summary An antique goban nets Namikawa a ghostly housepest (along with something Sai had lost for 1000 years)
Story type: Supernatural, friendship, AU, slash/yaoi, crossover.
Characters/Pairings: Shingo Midou/Reiji Namikawa + Fujiwara no Sai, possible others.
Spoilers: Yotsuba arc, maybe whole series. Post-canon Hikaru no Go.
Disclaimers:
Set in the Death Note universe, Yotsuba arc, with Sai as supporting actor (or is he really the male lead?). It's Yotsuba-centric, particularly, Namikawa-centric, off-camera. HnG characters and events may be referenced, have cameos or more but that remains to be seen. Namikawa's 4-dan wasn't in go. Whew. Writing about characters with limited roles and little backstory is a job. This story has or may have: character death, undead characters, canon diddling, substance use and abuse, hair care, violence, incoherence, neurological conditions, dream sequences, alternate universe, crossover, bad swears, sex over thirty, angst, hurt/comfort, silliness, lamery, sappiness, earworms, woodwind instruments, shogi, go, sabers, amorphous house plans and did I mention incoherence?
Death Note is the paper baby of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Hikaru no Go of Yumi Hotta and Takeshi Obata (same dad, different moms) and all current rights holders. Any media, product or slogan referenced is also the property of its creators and current rights holders. I'm just letting them play in my brain for awhile. I promise to send them back unhurt and not soaked in cerebrospinal fluid.
Feedback: I'll take it all, happy, indifferent, critique, flames, pointing out gaffes, plot holes, punctuation errors and so on. All except projectile vomiting, I'm seriously emetophobic. Eww.

In the shadow of an old-fashioned tower speaker, Namikawa Reiji knelt in front of a quartet of boxes and sneezed. His once-black Harley T-shirt was purchased in OOP S AV LL NO, according to the dissolving screenprint on the back. A safety pin struggled to hold up dingy gray sweats and failed, resulting in downward creepage and a view of boxer waistband. Their broken drawstring did no better a job securing his long black hair in a messy ponytail.

I first stumbled on HnG in 2003(?) I think-- my grandnephew had bought Shonen Jump at the White Hen. I was flipping through it and there was the chapter where Hikaru was given his first goban and Sai was bouncing off the walls. I became a Sai fan without knowing it. I read some scanlations online later and I stored him in my brain and forgot about him until I was reading Death Note scanlations in '05ish and thought, "Namikawa looks like some other character..." in the Yotsuba short dossiers (4-dan shogi pro? *ping* reference). I kept thinking Namikawa should be more animated and flailing around dramatically, didn't know why at the time (especially since Namikawa would only flail and cry if he was under control of the Imperius curse Death Note). It took me awhile to find Sai hiding in my brain! So I reread the manga, watched the anime (skimming through a lot of the go game footage, which for me was like watching paint dry). I've actually played go and shogi on boards from time to time since I was a kidlet but I'm not real good at either.
I'm working on a Death Note crossover fic where Sai returns-- and haunts Namikawa. It's in mostly off-camera Yotsuba arc but Sai's very present. Other HnG characters may be referenced but it's squarely in DN universe rather than HnG. I noted there's slash/yaoi here but my backreading is fail. Are links to mature/adult content rated fics allowed here? There's adult content and will be more adult but most of the action is no worse than a few bad swears and adult dialogue-- sex will happen but it's not the main plot.
If this isn't the appropriate comm, let me know.
