Week 048: 'Duelly Noted'

                While then students are slowly returning to normal life after having their daily comings and goings reported by one Miss Rita Skeeter to the rest of the wizarding world, a certain few teachers are in a slight panic.

                Word has come along the wire about a possible mass-attack on Hogwarts. Of course, those teachers who are members of the Order of the Phoenix were originally un-daunted. Such possible attacks have been reported every week since the vanishing of The Boy Who Lived. However, this particular report came from a very strange and very unlikely source. The discovery of the source, of course, has lead to much in-fighting between members of the Order: is this person to be believed or not?

                Some members, however, have created a third faction: the “Let’s-Get-Students-Prepared-For-An-Attack-Just-In-Case-You-Never-Know” faction. They figure that if there isn’t an attack within the next month, what’s to say that there won’t be the month after?

                Their idea was simple: start a brand new dueling club at Hogwarts, open to any student wishing to learn the ultimate magical ability: how to defend one’s self. Of course, saying and doing are two totally different things. While Former-Headmaster Dumbledore would be more than pleased to have a dueling club within the school’s grounds, no doubt Newly-Instated Headmaster Malfoy is not so pleased.

                To get what they wanted, the Order knew they would have to play the game by Malfoy’s rules. In a private meeting with the headmaster, a certain greasy-haired double agent proposed the idea, saying that it would be in the best interests for all involved. Students would learn how to defend themselves, and maybe even be able to be taught how to apply these skills in order to ‘better serve the Dark Lord when the time is appropriate’. Parents and patrons of the school would be pleased to know that their children were being taught how to keep themselves safe. And the Headmaster could look in at any time he wished.

                Malfoy agreed.

                As for this supposed attack, the Order of the Phoenix was not the only group alerted. A message was sent to the ‘agents’ of Dumbledore’s Army, unbeknownst to many members—including their leaders.

                Whether they get it or not is entirely up to one Master Seth MacCarthy.

                Meanwhile, the Ravenclaw and Gryffindor House Quidditch teams are preparing for a big day on the pitch on Saturday.
