I know that all the mods out there (there very few of them here in virginia) think that punk came from motown but anyone else with half a brain knows that it came from jazz like Sun Ra. Well doo wop and the delta blues helped out too but most punks can't master the blues. Lets face it even if Jack White has that killer Son House cover he is still no Eric Clapton. I am going to make a request. I keep reading about this band that has the word knight in it. They supposedly influenced bands like the cramps and other bands who in turn influenced The Misfits. I forgot their name. Please help! Please!

Does anyone else own the new DVD, "Sonic Revolution". I think its pretty cool. I like the promo for "Kick Out The Jams", "Looking At You" and "The American Ruse" on the Lively Spot and the 1968 Democratic National Convention footage. The rest is mediocre, in my opinion.

I am going to a documentary tomorrow nite at a bar in Dearborn, MI about the life and times of John Sinclair, and then one on the MC5 live, by Leni Sinclair. John Sinclair, Larry Plamondon and others will be there. I'm going with my friend, who has met and interviewed Larry Plamondon, hopefully we'll be able to meet some of them. I'm assuming Dennis Thompson will be there, since he still resides in Lincoln Park. It should be a real cool time. When purchasing the tickets we stumbled upon an interview with Larry Plamondon
I just bought The American Ruse, what does everyone think of those versions?

Yesterday I dragged vocodeformat to see The MC5 Movie at the Brattle. We got free popcorn and hung out with Mikey ( Bratface ). It was such an awesome experience, to relive those days of dope, guns and fucking in the streets would be magical! I learned so much about my favorite band, and as a celebration of the freedom of the late sixties, I slept until noon making me a full 2 hours late for work! Today is so nice out, I want to set up a stage on the waterfront and Kick Out The Jams! Nothing has been this inspirational to me all winter. I've been so looking forward to that flick and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. I have a newfound respect for Wayne Kramer and only now do I realize that John Sinclair was just a crazy bastard with too much control over the minds of youths in Detroiut at the time! GODAMN! I'm gonna be reeling about this for a while. Catch it on DVD when it comes out, it reads better than a Behind The Music. ( And, well, no band has or ever will be a truly unique experience like the MC5 was, they could have only existed in thier time, with those 5 cats, in Detroit ) The MC5 were truly great, and this chronicles the high Highs and the low Lows. Someone pass me a i-got-to-work-and-it's-boring-and-I-haven't-been-high-in-a-long-time-joint!

Well, aren't I an asshole. I created this community years ago under an old username. And then I ignored it. I came back to LJ once just to read my old shit, and you know it was funny, someone had commented in one of my entries that I should join this community - my very own MC5 community. The very first LJ community I ever created. Heh.
Anyhow, hello all. Sorry I have been absent since pretty much the start of this community.

I just read that the MC5 documentary A True Testimonial will be released on May 4, 2004. I saw it in October, when I met Dennis, and it was amazing so I am looking forward to this.

Hey I found this community and I joined it because the MC5 are my favorite band and I think they are the greatest. I really got in to them about a year and a half ago and I have been fucking addicted ever since. In context to the music of the time the MC5 are so truly pure and original. I look at all that boring shit that was out at the time and then I hear them and I wonder how the fuck they were not the biggest thing in the world. Perhaps the true greatness of the MC5 is the fact that were never that big and they remained a local sensation. I am from Royal Oak, Michigan which is near Detroit and I am really proud to grow up so near where this band started. I've seen MC5: A True Testimonial. I've met Dennis and have his autograph. I own Kick Out The Jams, Back In The USA, High Time, Babes In Arms, Breakout 66', Teenage Lust: Live at the Saginaw Civic Center 1970, Starship: Live at the Sturgis Armory 1968, Live in Phun city UK and Extended versions. I need to find some more MC5 live CDs so if anyone can recomend some good ones please do. Yeah thats it. Kramer's solos in "Looking At You" are the greatest guitar solos ever.
