    Well, before we start getting in much better artwork than mine to use for our opening credits sequence, here's a few more I did.

    Still going
    So, it's been a while since we've updated here, but that's only because there hasn't been much to say. Obviously, we're still not done yet. I think Ryan and I both got a little burned out on High Adventure! for a little while and got distracted with other projects and whatnot, but are now in the second-wind stage and ready to head into the home stretch. That said, there's still a lot left to do and I don't feel like making the mistake of trying to guess when we'll be done yet again.

    What's left, off the top of my head:
    * roughly a quarter of ADR work
    * sound effects
    * the score
    * tightening the edit
    * a very, very few simple pick-up shots (Henchmania)
    * open credits sequence

    So, yeah, kind of a lot. But we're back at it.

    Also, here's another Tales of High Adventure pulp cover:

    Man, next month it'll be two years since I started the script.

    Not to be confused with DDR
    Started ADR work last night. That's audio dialogue replacement, right? I thought that was it, but now that I'm thinking about it, it's kind of an odd terminology. Dialogue replacement would probably cover it. Anyway, it's weird. I don't know how normal people do it, but I'm finding it easiest to just loop a short clip over and over and speak along with it until we synch. It's kind of fun, but we'll see if I still feel that way after several more sessions.

    Anyway, there's your latest thrilling update of adventure: ADR work. Please keep your excitement to a minimum.

    Whew!
    Well, it's official. We have a rough edit of the entire movie finally done. Don't get me wrong, this was probably the easy part, as we still have audio mixing, audio dialog replacement, foley/ambient sound effects, scoring, special effects. However, all that aside, this is a huge step. At this time, the running time is 1 hour 58 minutes and 54 seconds. Not after trimming and credits, it will run about 2 hours, as we had anticipated.

    Thank goodness, we've made it this far

    Kirby by Kirby

    Howdy folks. Just a quick update. With The Fifth Contingency DVD very, very nearly completed, editing has begun on High Adventure!. Ryan has a rough edit done through around scene 8 or 9. I've seen it. You have not.

    And I have heard some interesting news about a possible new recruit for the Junior Adventure Scouts, but I think I'll mention that later.

    And it turns out it's Paul, who appears in High Adventure! as Rockabilly Hitler (and as a henchman):

    That's a wrap
    Principle photography wrapped on High Adventure! yesterday. Finally. It took a hell of a lot longer than our initial estimates, and then a little longer than our adjusted estimates, but we made it.

    This last weekend, we crammed a lot in. Saturday we shot a brief scene in a jewelry store and another scene with Wombat and Danny. Beau Hutchings gets the award for having the most spread-out shooting schedule. As Danny, he's in two scenes in the movie. One was the first scene we shot, late last June, and then Saturday. This was also the last of our untrained animal actor scenes, this time with a cat. Unlike the dog and the horse, the cat didn't have to go anywhere or look at anyone or anything, it just needed to be held. Naturally, this was the most difficult of the animal shoots yet. The cat did not like Beau. So, in addition to the scene we got some good blooper-reel footage.

    Sunday we shot the scenes that take place in the office, shot in the same location where we had the initial script read-through. Then we watched an 10 minute segment that we'd edited and people seemed to enjoy and ate some pizza. It was a pretty lackluster, low-key wrap party, really, but Ryan and I were so beat I don't think we much minded things getting over earlier than we expected. Besides, we'll be getting together before too long for the rough-cut viewing which should be more fun.

    And now, lots and lots of editing, which is always (not) my favorite part, but thankfully more Ryan's problem than mine.

    I can't say enough about how great our cast has been. Most of them don't live in Ann Arbor and have driven in several times to shoot their scenes. And this goes at least double for Matt Rodgers who is in almost every scene in the movie and had to drive all the way from Kalamazoo. He's had to make that trek probably more weekends than not over the last 9 months and never complained even when, like I said above, things wound up taking a lot longer than we made him expect at first.

    OK, it's in the can. Big weight off my back, and lots of hair off my face.

    Begin Phase II.

    Nepotism rules
    Well, this is fun.

    Brodie and I are going to be on the radio, Friday, March 12 at 6:45am to discuss High Adventure. It's going to be on 1600AM WAAM, right here in Ann Arbor. Yes, I know. I thought AM radio was a myth too. Something my parents scared me with, but it really exists. In fact, since it's public radio, and occurs during morning drive time, we might actually have a couple of listeners. I don't know how many, nor do I care. I'm just glad the guy at WAAM knows talent when he sees it (Shout out to [info]madush69, since he's the guy interviewing us. In fact, I think I just saw his scene in the movie get a little longer).

    So if any of you happen to be awake during the hours of 6:45 and 7am on Friday, March 12, could you please make sure I'm awake too? Great thanks.

    Allllllllmost (stop me if you've heard this one) there
    Man. I think at some point shooting High Adventure! became less like a project with an actual end goal and more like a permanent lifestyle.

    the wiggles
    We shot a certain sequence for High Adventure yesterday. 6 hours of shooting for about 2 and ½ minutes of screen time. Sometimes I'm sore the day after shooting a more active, stunty day. Last night the soreness decided to come right away. Nice big bump on my back.

    No pictures for you from yesterday, though. Instead here's this nonsense:
