HEY. WHERE IS MY SNOW DAY, WISCONSIN?
You know the hilarity of going to bed with your car coated in snow and waking up to it all melting?
Yeah.
I wonder how the weather people are feeling with egg on their face this morning?
eta: also, windows, you are such a piece of crap. Now I have to try to remember all the things I had OPEN. Bah.

( Twelve Days )
Meme Sheep should do a wishlist, y/n? I'm a girl with pretty simple wants, really. But I'll think of a few more things.
Also, Better Off Ted came back tonight! YAY. One of the only sitcoms I can tolerate.

Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile." I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity Update your journal with the answers to the questions Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.
1. I haven't watched Sons of Anarchy, but I know you love it. Tell me why you love it so much.
well let's see. i've always loved bikes and would like to have one one day, so a show that shows that subculture attracted my attention. and there is the usual answer of: superior writing, acting, filming style, etc etc etc. which is all true of course, but it's mostly the characters. in a way it's a lot like Firefly actually. meaning this, by the simplest definition, mal and co. are criminals, but because we get to see the humanity of the crew, you end up rooting for them. same thing with SOA. yes, the Sons are criminals. they're gun runners, and loan sharks, and have even done murder for hire. but we get to see their human side. we see them as husbands and fathers, who love their families. so end the end, you find yourself rooting for the bad guys. such a great show.
2. What do you look for in your favorite characters in any fandom? Is there a particular type of person you're drawn to, or does it depend on the show and the story lines?
hmmm let's see. i guess it's a mix of all of these. sometimes it's feeling a connection to a character, relating to them. sometimes it's the storyline. sometimes it's something as simple as a single personality trait that makes me like a character. so i guess there's no single answer for this one. =)
3. I realize that I don't know what fandom you first wrote fanfic for? Was it BSG or something else?
well it was way before the internet, i was a kid. but the first piece of fanfic i ever wrote was for star wars. i can't remember it in detail but i remember part of it was chewie dying. funny, since years later in the novel New Jedi Order: Vector Prime they did kill chewie off. that's also one of the fandom deaths that bummed me out, heh.
4. What do you *really* want for Christmas?
to be happy again
5. (And the one serious question) Tell me what you are most proud of about yourself: an accomplishment, decision, characteristic, whatever that may be.
well, right now i have nothing to feel proud about. i look at myself in the mirror and see "failure". so, i can't answer this one very well. sorry.

WILL IT SNOW FOR CHRISTMAS SUBS ARE NOT WORKING WOE WOE WOE WITHDRAWAL NEED MY ANGSTY GO SOO FIX NOOOOOOOOOO!
ETA: I know I can watch Innocent Love or whatever, but I want my Xmas fix! There is no way anything can compare with a Lee Kyung Hee drama (especially if it stars Go Soo). To expect me to put up with IL (nice as it is) instead is like inviting someone for filet mignon and then giving them hamburger meat. Not satisfying in the least.

1. I suck because I yesterday I kept trying to send people snowflake cookies but for some reason the network at school would not let me do this, so I thought I'd do it today, no biggie. LJ sucks because apparently the free vgifts were a mistake in the first place and have since been discontinued. FROWNY FACE.
2. Did y'all know that in Japan, KitKats come in vegetable flavored varieties? Yes, that's a KITKAT, FLAVORED so it tastes like VEGETABLES. AHAHA AWESOME.
3. This set of pictures of Levi Johnston (still father of Sarah Palin's grandchild) is... pretty hilarious. Take a look and watch out for the hockey stick of non symbolism.
4. AHAHAHAHAHAHA
5. I know this is old, but I just rediscovered it, so: Kanenko tries out a US Military MRE and reports back with hilarious results.
6. I said this in a post earlier today that got deleted, so I'll repeat it here, in the spirit of random army references: A. one of our favorite bitter-like-the-best-whiskey jokes at my base (and was popular in Intelligence in general, where the NCO/officer relations were often strained at best) was: What did the officer say to God when he got to heaven? "Get out of my chair." AHAHAHAH oh sweet, sweet inner politics.
B. I was sitting with roga in my favorite class today - the one that brightens up my day immensely (the fact that today the presentation for the class had a giant picture of Keller and Beecher from Oz on it might have something to do with that). In front of us sat a dude with a funny image on the back of his Tshirt.
At the top it said "if the archeologists hadn't discovered the City of David and on the bottom: "we surely would have done it". In the middle there was a picture of Superman mid flight, holding a shovel.
Me: LOL, that's... so weird and random.
roga: *reads* AHAHAHAHAHA oh my god that's an end-of-Officer's-Training shirt!
I would now like to remind our readers what the verb "digging" also means in modern Israeli Hebrew. AHAHAHAHAHA
7. Status update for those keeping score at home: I am still incapable of reading... more or less a single passage from Nate Fick's "One Bullet Away" without being overtaken by the horrible... something bubbling up from inside making me feel like I'll explode if I dwell of what being a commander has meant for me and what it has taught me and how those things do and do not affect my life today. I'll never be able to write a book about it - not least of the reasons being the confidential nature of Intelligence work - and I just... whenever I think about it I need to be able to express my feelings and I need people to understand what I'm talking about and yet I have no sane way of sitting down and explaining things out loud, in a structured way, to give people a chance to follow my story. Not yet, anyway.
Ugh I can't help but feel it is somehow unhealthy for perhaps insane to be like "reading this book would be a therapy session so... IMMA NOT DO THAT RIGHT NOW" but that's totally what I'm doing. It's just a but hard when one is actually following Generation Kill fandom.
8. I finished watching East West 101 and have recorded my thoughts on the matter, but shall post them at a later date. Overall, excellent, excellent ending.
9. I am physically incapable of turning down an offer that starts with "hey do you wanna co-author..." especially when it's writers I adore. PHYSICALLY. INCAPABLE. This will result in some honest to god WTFery this holiday season, mark my words.
10. Yeah seriously you guys I love you and I love talking to y'all on DW/LJ and I promise I will get to actually answering those comments and having conversations as soon as I can breathe.

I posted some time ago that I find the very concepts of some dramas off-putting. Well, I found one that takes the cake - just reading the synopsis gives me RAGE.
Koibumi is a very well-acted series that stars Watabe Atsuro, Mizuno Miki, and Wakui Emi. The story is based on the 1984 Naoki Award-winning short story "Koibumi" by Mikihiko Renjo that addressed the subtleties of male and female relationships. It was made into a film the following year. The story was adapted for the screen by renowned scriptwriter Okada Yoshikazu.
Shouichi (Watabe Atsuro) is an art teacher with a very eccentric style. He basically has the personality of a young boy who does things that he feels are right, and doesn't really think too much about the consequences of his actions. Shoichi's wife, Kyouko (Mizuno Miki), is a no-nonsense mother figure that always has to clean up after Shoichi's mistakes. Their two personalities strike a balance and they enjoy a happy life together with their son, Suguru, who has grown up to be more responsible to make up for his father's childishness.
One day, his former lover Etsuko (Wakui Emi) shows up at his school, and tells him that she is dying from a terminal illness and has only six months to live. Shouichi decides to be with her until her death, so he quits his job, leaves his family, and finds a new job so he can spend more time with Etsuko at the hospital. Kyouko wakes up to find her husband gone with no explanation, and goes out in search of him...
Apparently when she finds him, she agrees to the husband's request to not only let him go but to visit the girlfriend so she won't be lonely.
DISHRAG DISRAG DISHRAG.
I want to find the male character and set him on fire! Sure, go ahead (*&^%, abandon your wife and young kid to play house with some dying chick - so noble of you! And with the nerve to ask your wife to help!
If I was the wife in this scenario, not only forget acquiescing in his insanity, I'd serve him a meal with tacks and nails in it and send the videotape of him choking to death to the girlfriend.
WTF!
Seriously.
Which insane male fantasy is THIS?????????
SO MUCH RAGE

[08 Dec 2009|10:44am] |
You know your lead character's voice is, um, STRONG, when the story shifts to first person in the middle of what you're writing.
I'm gonna have to fix that. But on the plus side, I have the minimum for Yuletide. Story, of course, isn't done, but it's always a good feeling to at least have SOMETHING.
On the negative side, I must go face the wild hordes at Best Buy. If I don't return, you'll know I was trampled in the Harry Potter aisle!
ETA: Amazon has 30 Seconds to Mars, This is War, on sale for 3.99 download. That's practically free!
However, I already purchased the special t-shirt edition. Kidlet wants to be a truck driver, he doesn't NEED college! *g*

| I have a new drama love |
[08 Dec 2009|12:42pm] |
I haven't posted much yet about Will It Snow For Christmas but I really should, seeing how much I love it.
What i really love about it is, despite what I am sure will be a melodramatic plot of some sort, is the reality of these characters. I love the child versions of protagonists.
Take the heroine (she is what, 14-15?) - she is so real, from her angry outburst at seeing her older brother's banner torn up, to the oh-too-real yearning to get back her similarly young boyfriend who now likes another girl, to complaining to her best friend, to hero-worship of her brother, to pushing hero into a ditch and being scared she went too far but covering it. She is a very very real teen girl, a little stolid and determined and I love her.
And I love the younger version of the hero too, so very much - mainly because underneath all that barely controlled anger (his mother is...ahem...bar-girl would be a nice way to put it, and while his half-brother is matter-of-fact about it and the humiliations she suffers, he is not), there is a certain basic niceness which can't get erased no matter what (see how he offers to help heroine re: banner). Plus the contrast between his potential (he finished first in his past school) and reality (all those expulsions due to fighting - probably because of his mother's status). I don't know - he feels real too. The scene when he sees his mother set up a sign in their new town for a brothel and he asks her about her telling him earlier she would open a restaurant, and she flies off the handle saying that would be boring - and his reaction. It's such a little scene, he doesn't really say anything, but it just got me and wouldn't let go. And her telling him not to get expelled again and his comment on her lipstick. This is going to sound odd but it had an almost indie-movie vibe to it.
Anyway, this drama is so very good. Watch it!
